"I had an overall pleasant stay at the Gateway Inn in Ashford, Washington. One of the biggest advantages of this property is its location—being right near the entrance to Mount Rainier National Park makes it incredibly convenient for anyone planning to explore the area. "When we arrived before the 7:00pm allowed arrival time -6:45 pm (there was no cell reception in the area) we were told that Expedia had cancelled our reservation due to over booking. I have never had that happen before. It seemed odd and definitely concerning. We were told that a more expensive room was available, for which receptionist gave us a discount for our inconvenience, $210 instead of $280. While this was appreciated it was still $25 over our originally agreed upon price with Expedia....

"The room looked better than the pictures. All the online pictures looked like someone who is awful at photography took them so it was nice that the room looked better than that. The Good: Shower was hot with good pressure. Great location right by the river. The scenery was quiet as we were in the back by the river away from the road. "The property is a little hard to find. It’s listed as Natural Bridge State Resort Park but the hotel itself is called the Hemlock Lodge. It’s built into the side of the hill. The pool is like 100 steps down at the bottom. Super friendly staff and clean property. A smoke free hotel but the workers are constantly smoking right outside the doors leading out on their breaks. We were visiting with our 2 dogs. The only issue we had is there is no dedicated spot for the dogs to go to the bathroom....
