The Great Escape

I live in a technology driven environment 24-7-365, and I needed to be at this winery. We stayed at the Birch property and found it to be the perfect getaway from lifeā€™s constant distractions and daily annoyances. When you stay at this property, you are relieved of the stresses and pressures of everyday living, and presented with the chance to disconnect from the world and the opportunity to actually breathe. We didnā€™t do much during our 3-day stay, but that was the point. I wanted a relaxing place to enjoy nature, drink some great wine, eat some excellent food at Chez Josephine, and disconnect from the world. Mission accomplished. We didnā€™t take advantage of the amenities provided such as the communal fireplace, the provided grill, and the games and activities that you can enjoy in the property. We just took the opportunity to hit the proverbial ā€œpauseā€ button on our life and were so happy to have chosen Roaring River to do it at. Sure, there is capable internet and a Roku enabled TV in the unit, but when you stay here, thatā€™s not the point. This is where you go to disconnect, unwind, relax, ignore the world, and appreciate your loved ones, nature and your place in life. I look forward to the opportunity to decompress here again.

Enjoy the wine then walk to your lodging

Itā€™s a wonderful venue to enjoy drinking wine and not worry about driving country roads afterwards. Cozy suite with fire pit right outside back door and next to the appropriately named Roaring River. Full kitchen and propane grill makes it easy to eat in.

A lovely setting along the river ā€¦..

The accommodations were very comfortable and we enjoyed sitting on the patio listening to the river. We were disappointed with the menu selection in the dining room hoping for more dinner entrees. But for lunch it was fine. We drove into Elkin and purchased some groceries and cooked our own meals during our stay. The cabin was very comfortable and the grounds are lovely.

Quite Foothills Getaway

Overall a nice clean and relaxing place to stay. It is remote, so plan on 30 minutes plus drive to any other activity or restaurants. The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant hours are limited (kitchen is11 to 5, bar is 11 to 6) If you prefer later mealtimes, be sure to pack your own food or be prepared for a 30 minute drive to the next nearest restaurant. The wine flite was good. A few things needed attention. 1) The oven in our unit was not clean and smelled of burned pizza when we used it. 2) The air circulation in the unit was poor. When we were there, it was one of the hottest weekends on record and we has to purchase a small fan ti help circulate the air. 3) The hot tub needed attention. It appeared clean, but the water level was 6 to 8 inches too low. 4) The instructions for check out asked us to clean the grill, but the items that should have been supplied were not available in our unit. Overall, we would still recommend this as a secluded getaway cottage. We would still recommend this property

Memorial weekend 2024

The place was wonderful except for the extremely musty smell. That being said the management and owner were extremely responsive and offered us the upstairs unit as an option. Very kind. We did not partake since we had unloaded. Would stay again upstairs or if assured the mustiness had been taken care of. Again so pleased w the concern and responsive we received. The property is beautiful.

Perfect getaway

Wonderful accommodations in a perfect setting next to a roaring river! We enjoyed the restaurant, the grounds, our patio, and the nearby state park. The owners have done a great job thinking of everything a guest wants and needs in a home away from home.

We did not realize when when we made the reservation that the place was closed on Wednesdays. Bed was so small and soft. We only stayed one night as the weather was not cooperating. Also left our beer in the refrigerator by mistake! Live and learn.

New Year Getaway

Great place for quiet weekend getaway. Food at Restaurant was just okay. Would have liked to use hot tub but sign stated for owners use only. Heater was a little noisy.

Great spot butā€¦

This was our second stay here after a few years. The property has a great spot with a restaurant terrace and lodging that overlooks the river. The restaurant has good food. The wine flight servings are abysmally small. The bottled wine is overpriced. The shared Aspen-Birch walls are too thin with loud neighbors. Lamps and other furnishings were dusty and had cobwebs. The shower curtain rod was rusty. Overall, spending time away in a beautiful location with access to nearby hikes overcame these little disappointments for an enjoyable weekend.
