Slice of heaven
This was our second stay and we absolutely love it out here. So peaceful and well accommodated. The hosts are the best I've ever worked with for vacation rentals. The property is so neat to explore. We brought our e-bikes this time and it made for some great rides as well as an easy trip to Buescher next door to ride the road to Bastrop. A+ vacation!!

We arrived early like 5am..there are signs but we got lost for a moment..there are signs that say cabin but very hard to see in the dark..suggestion reflection paint It is a rough ride with dirt,clay and rock road for 1.5 mile in the property..the ride is more than worth it Our hosts were very kind. The cabin was well furnished The only thing (besides the reflective paint) are instructions on what to in case of Tornado warnings and watches and nickel to quarter sized hail and keeping your wind sheild in tact Would i stay there again. Better believe it

Home base for Colorado River fishing trip
Stayed at lost pines cabin during a Colorado River fishing trip. Cozy. Quiet. Beautifully peaceful spot. Every convenience without the stress of a city neighborhood. Loved it.

Cozy Cabin
This cozy cabin in the woods was just what we were looking for. It was peaceful and quiet. We hiked in several State Parks. And even walked around the property. Buescher State Park is only a few mikes away. The sunsets on the back porch were amazing. The cabin had everything we needed. The reclining couches sure felt good after the miles we walked.

Shock and Awe!!
The cabin is well off the beaten path…and on top of a hill!!! The back porch view is a vista, not a view. It’s absolutely beautiful. The cabin is perfectly rustic with all the conveniences. The road to the cabin is bumpy and rocky. I drive a car so getting to the cabin was slow going but that was ok because of the views!! You just have to be careful. Overall, we could not have found a better getaway. Bed & breakfast’s can’t hold a candlestick to this property!

Wonderful Getaway
My husband and I loved our stay at the cabin. We were spending 3 days shopping the Round Top antique show and it was nice coming back to the cabin and just relaxing on the back porch. Truly perfection. The cabin was roomier then I thought it would be. The decor was thoughtfully done, had all the comfort you needed and extremely clean. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend to others looking for a wonderful getaway.

Another great stay
This was the 3rd year in a row that we have stayed here and would continue to recommend. Host is great and its not through a management company, which is always a plus. She responds quick even though we have never had an issue. Will be coming back here for sure.

Best little Cabin in Texas

Happy on The Hill
We had a great time.... next time we stay will be to enjoy the area... we had family wedding and that took up our day... But the cabin was so comfortable to come home at night... loved drinking coffee in the morning and enjoying the view.... Jan was such a joy to talk to...will definitely be back...Thanks Jan!

Spring Break Rest in the Piney Woods
We spent a few nights hanging out with our dogs and college seniors. We had so much fun hiking, fishing, and jamming around the firepit! The porch and house are just perfect! The hostess, Jan, is amazing! We are planning on making this a tradition. Such a wonderful time!

We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin. The cabin itself was charming and rustic. If you are wanting a fancy place to stay, this isn’t the place for you. If you want an awesome, quiet, rustic place where you have room to hike, enjoy the quiet and the land, this is definitely the place! We would come back to this place again!

Best Weekend Away!
My boyfriend and our dogs had the most amazing NYE weekend at the cabin. It was outfitted with all the comforts of home, plus sweet extras in a gift basket. The property was wonderfully secluded and surrounded by trails we took to visit the ponds. The back porch with hammock and rocking chairs overlooked the fire pit area and had an incredible view of the valley below. I could not have had a better experience!

Secluded Cabin
We had a great time at this cabin! Very secluded, lots of amenities, and comfortable furniture. We took advantage of the hammock and propane grill to enjoy the outdoors. They were also working on clearing the dirt/gravel road to the property so it was much smoother than I had read from previous reviews. I would definitely stay here again!

Fabulous again!
We got to enjoy this wonderful property again for a long weekend! We love the cabin, walking around the property, letting our dogs swim in the lake and sitting outside watching the stars. Will definitely be back. The host is quick to respond and left a lovely welcome basket.

Great escape in the woods.
This was an amazing place to escape the city and spend some peace and quiet in the woods. My group had no problems finding and accessing the cabin. Lots of tall beautiful trees and great history.

Perfect retreat
We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin is charming but comes with most mod cons. We didn’t turn the tv on, instead we loved the rocking chairs on the back porch for relaxing, bird watching and enjoying the forest setting..

The perfect guests! It didn’t look like they were even here. They did so much clean up-above and beyond. Hope they’ll come back and just relax!! Appreciate all the effort-especially helping with the recycling effort by separating the items. 🤗

Enjoyed so much, we stayed an extra night! Jan was very responsive. Really dig the Rustic setting. All the necessary, and amenities. AC was the real winner! It kept us cool during 106 outside. Bed was very comfortable. Hammock was a big plus. Will be back.

Great get away
This was an amazing stay off the beaten path. My wife and I stayed here for a few days to just have a small escape from work and home life. The cabin was amazing and we got to see some of the native critters just off the back porch. I would highly recommend this stay to anyone who wants a very quiet place to relax.

Heaven in the pines!
Wow! If you're looking for the perfect getaway, off the beaten path (but not too far), this is your place. It's an amazing, quiet, comfortable cabin nestled in a beautiful pine forest with the fun of camping, yet all the comforts of home. Moreover, it's full of history (read the scrapbook under the TV table. Amazing!). Can't say enough good things about "The Best Little Cabin in Texas". We will definitely be back! Can't wait!

Great holiday away
My family and our dog stayed for Christmas. We had a great time. The GPS took is right to the cabin. The road in was rocky and steep but our cars made it just fine. The cabin was very clean and we felt at home. The water had a very metallic smell which is to be expected. We explored the trails and took lots of pictures. We would highly recommend this cabin for a quiet getaway

Great time for dog-cation!
Our dogs both have October birthdays, so we take them on a trip every year. This place was perfect! Lots of great walking areas, an awesome back deck and fire pit area, and very comfortable accommodations. It's also right near the state park, so more dog walks! And our golden retriever had a BLAST jumping into the nearby ponds. We'll definitely come back!

Chicken Ranch at a glance
Just as stated! This cabin keenly separates you from chaos, noise and the sense of time. It's a taste of East Texas Pine just closer than East Texas. Modeled after BLWH in Texas Musical. It even has the original Madame"s Bed. Unfortunately it feels like the mattresses are also the originals. To be overly critical is just unnecessary because the peace of the location is very sincere with seclusion at its roots. Dogs are welcome and the nearby pond is beautifully ample and stocked. The town of Smithville was fantastic with bars, eats, even a metaphysics store next to a great eatery that charges by honor system and donations. That speaks to the charm. Bastrop is nearly equidistant. I would not suggest taking a car to this location as the terrain is steep, unpaved and unleveled. The rain on the tin roof was enchanting but the overwhelming presence of Black Widow spiders was not. In general it was clean but the couch was slightly sticky..... uhhh. The bed mattresses lack shape integrity, bow, springs are felt and just generally in desperate need of replacement. Our check in instructions were never communicated and reaching the host was necessary to know gate codes and all pertinent welcoming instructions. That was disappointing as it is so simple to just be organized and send the info in advance. We had to reach out to neighbors to get ahold of the host. Water pressure is low with heavy iron content in water....it was a lil "peaky". To summarize we made the best of this BLWH in Texas. It was a blessing to have experienced it and with a few improvements this property will be sure to remain sold out into the future.

Time in the woods
The cabin interior was excellent - charming (except for the over-emphasis on the house of ill repute angle) and spacious. Very quiet and peaceful. The outside, not so much. The fire pit chairs were so rusted we wouldn't sit on them. Also, the TV didn't work the entire two weeks, despite a call/visit from the owner. Definitely calls for a partial refund. Also, if you've cooking, bring a couple of small pots - there's only one very big one and one small one. And bring your own drinking water. Drive cautiously. The rain washed deep rivulets in the mile and a half road in and they weren't repaired.

I loved the pine trees and seclusion. My dogs enjoyed romping about a little too much. Thank goodness Judson found my dogs then later found me when I was lost. He is around the area, he stays in a different area. He is there only when you need him. The cabin is quaint and cozy. You might want to bring a memory foam topper and some pillows for the futon. Going into Smithville is a must. It has plenty of places to eat and shops to visit. Historic downtown is a must see. We loved our stay here. We enjoyed everything about it. This is a lovely, secluded property. 1.5 mile drive to cabin was a little rough. We loved sitting on back deck and the firepit. Kitchen was a little lacking. We would have been glad to bring our own pots and necessaries had we known. Grill needs to be replaced. Still had a good time. 👍
