On a cul-de-sac in a good, safe, flat neighborhood in the geographic center of The City
Guests have said: "great value"; "cozy"; "We appreciated Howard's map and list of suggested places to eat"; "comfy beds and very quiet which made for great sleeping."
Private garage.
Private entrance.
The bedroom has a queen bed. The (larger) sitting room has a single bed, which looks sort of like a sofa, as well as a real sofa. Both rooms look out at the garden. Powder-room-size bathroom with walk-in shower. WiFi. Cable TV with Netflix et al. Wood floors.
Excellent bus connections: Downtown/Beach; Marina/MIssion. Easy walk to Golden Gate Park, Laurel Village, Clement St., and to two foodie destinations: Arsicault (best croissants in the country); Arguello Market (best sandwich—turkey—in The City). Also nearby: a classic diner, many coffee shops and restaurants, post office, pharmacy, banks, FedEx, and gas station.
Please note: no stove—alcove has microwave and mini-fridge and electric kettle, Braun coffee maker, and toaster, and glasses, dishes, and utensils. BBQ in backyard.

The host greeted my family in person and made sure they had everything they needed. When a massive power outage in the city took out most of the surrounding blocks, he made sure we had flashlights and candles, just in case the rental might lose power (it didn't, by some twist of good fortune). It was the perfect location for us, and the stay was seamless.

Great location for a visit for my mom’s 82nd birthday trip. We were able to walk many places and it was easy to get a Wayco or Uber/Lyft when needed. Howard was a great host. He gave us an extensive list of local recommendations. As stated in the listing, there is no cooking facilities. We did not need them so the coffeemaker, mini fridge and microwave were just fine for us. The garage access would be a huge benefit if you have a car which we did not. I would not recommend this property for more than 2 adults if you are not comfortable in close quarters and sharing beds. It was perfectly fine for a mom and two daughters but maybe not for others that aren’t as close It worked perfect for us.

Kitchen setup was perfect for snacks and water bottle storage. We mostly ate out or went to the local coffee house for our morning coffee. Parking was excellent, especially for smaller cars. House was extremely clean. We have nothing negative to say.

Wonderful location on a quiet street. Walking distance to several good restaurants. The apartment is spacious and the bed is very comfortable. Howard is a great host; easy to reach and very responsive. We loved having the garage /driveway to park in so had no worries about parking.

Beautiful home in a nice and quiet location. Its not two separate bedrooms, just 1 bedroom with another bed in the living room area but still provided exactly what we needed to be comfortable for out stay and have our privacy. Didn't really utilize the kitchen area as our goal was to explore the city, but location was absolutely wonderful for that! House made old house noises as part of its charm

The place was perfect for a home base during Outside Lands. There was plenty of street parking in addition to being able to park in the garage. Place was clean and bed was very comfortable. This is a basement apartment below other living quarters and we were pleased with the insulation/minimal noise from above. Communication with host leading up to and during stay was great. We would stay here again if/when we are visiting SF. Howard was very welcoming and gave great recommendations of places within walking distance.

Solid Place in a Very Convenient Location

Had a great stay at Howard’s property. It is the lower level of a house, very nice having a garage if renting a vehicle. Very safe area and close access to Golden Gate Park and Muni buses. Howard was accommodating and met upon arrival. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance. If looking for a place to stay in the Richmond district or near Golden Gate Park, this is a great option!

Perfect home base for our active vacay in SF

We loved our historic 1930s efficiency/garage, 1 BR w/ kitchenette apartment in quiet Inner Richmond for a family-friendly, active vacation for 2 adults in late July 2025. Howard is a lovely host & was so helpful with advice and assistance when needed. Everything was clean & odor-free. We especially appreciated the bottled water supply for easy daily carry, the entrance shoe rack, & the fresh flowers on the bathroom shelf. Beds were comfy and temp control was great for the SF climate (daytime open windows and central heat at night when needed for the surprisingly cool SF summer). We used MUNI public transport & rideshare throughout our stay to visit all parts of the city, but there's free parking available on site if needed - a real rarity in SF. The neighborhood feels very safe and walkable, with a flat topography and plenty to eat & do nearby, from shopping off Clement to visiting excellent parks like Golden Gate, USF campus, Presidio, and Baker Beach. The unit comes with most amenities you'd need except hair conditioner, so bring that essential for long hair if a necessity for you. I'd also suggest bringing earplugs, noise-cancelling headphones, or a white noise maker if you're bothered by sounds of antique hardwood floors creaking or standard urban neighborhood activity (conversations & TV/stereo sounds from adjacent homes). Having stayed in historic city homes, we were prepared for these things and it was no problem for us. I'd definitely rent again. Thanks!

Great neighborhood within walking distance of restaurants, grocery and Golden Gate Park. A nice quiet retreat at the end of our day. We had a garage for our car. Everything felt safe and secure. Howard was very helpful with suggestions for where to eat and what to do.

Charming spot

We loved our stay in Howard’s apartment. The neighborhood is perfect for exploring in all directions—Richmond with all its great restaurants, Golden Gate Park and the de Young museum, the Presidio etc. Nearby Geary street gives you a. Straight shot downtown on the bus. Howard was very helpful and communicative and we particularly appreciated his letting us leave our luggage for a late pick up on our last day. It was a delightful stay.

Cozy garage apartment in the perfect location

The apartment is tucked behind the garage with a delightful garden view. Communication and check-in were easy and efficient. The space is as pictured - a little dated but very clean and comfortable. The bathroom and kitchette are small but set-up perfectly and work great! The bed and linens were very comfortable and there were special things like fresh flowers in the bathroom! I appreciated having a table, chairs and living area. The location is an easy walk to many coffee shops, restaurants and the Golden Gate Park!

Host was the best!

We were very fortunate to have found a place in close proximity to the hospital. Howard was very gracious and prompt in his communications with us and we looked forward to our stay. Unfortunately, the surgery that was to take place had been postponed (four times) and we were unable to stay at the Quiet Garden this time. Howard was very understanding and left a great impression on us, we will look forward to coming here under better circumstances and enjoying his hospitality.
