At Great Island Inn we offer modern apartments for the independent traveler in mind. Housed in a newly-renovated, 1820s home on New Castle island, our six guest studios feature fully equipped kitchens and in-room laundry. Whether you need a home base while visiting the Portsmouth area, are in town for an extended work trip, or are doing home renovations, we invite you to experience New Castle and the Seacoast like a local!

We really enjoyed staying here. Big cudos for cleanliness, size, view and amenities. Appreciated the attention to detail and the amenities. Check in and out was easy. New Castle is a lovely island and everyone is kind and welcoming. The cafe next door has excellent food and the nicest staff. We appreciated the restaurant recommendations and went to a few and were very happy. Definitely go to Cava and Surf in Portsmouth. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

An absolutely wonderful stay with all the comforts of home, this cozy getaway is located in short walking distance to a small beach, and also a short biking/driving distance to downtown Portsmouth or other larger beaches. We enjoyed the best of both worlds!

The Inn is perfectly situated to walk everywhere you want to go on the island, including the lovely Market Deli next door for breakfast, lunch, or great coffee. Even with a full house, including young children, it was quiet and peaceful. We had the back patio to ourselves for a night cap and reading. Well situation to head out to the beach or downtown Portsmouth for shopping and fun. Well appointed, and just generally perfect. We'll be back.

This property is absolutely great! Extremely clean, tastefully decorated, fully equipped, very quiet. We loved staying here thus the 5 star rating. However, the room shown on VRBO is not the one you get or at least we didn’t. We didn’t realize that you can book a room here directly with the Inn and save paying fees by VRBO such as cleaning fee and additional guest fee...and it was just the two of us! Never charged that before. Highly recommend the Inn but deal with them directly. The owner is super nice.

I am a 40-something midwesterner, who recently snuck away from northern Michigan for a solo adventure, ALL BY MYSELF. As a mother of 4 children who normally travels with my husband & our kids to New England, this trip was a different opportunity for me. We have stayed in all sorts of different locations in Portsmouth area over the years, always loving New Castle & Portsmouth. This trip, I was doing some writing & simply needed to get away & clear my head. I absolutely delighted in the accomodations offered, experiencing exactly what the pictures showed, feeling safe & secure & tranquil each day of my stay. I especially loved the proximity to post office, water front, & lovely patio area. Thank you for your hospitality. I will definitely choose this as both, my solo destination & if there is room to accomodate my children, I may perhaps bring them with me next visit.

Great location, beautiful 200 year renovated inn, just lovely all around. And a bonus we could bring our black lab, Hunter. We would definitely stay again and I suggest everyone check out the Great Island Inn. You won’t be disappointed.

We typically stay in downtown Portsmouth when we come for a visit, and we decided to try something different and glad we did. The Inn was still a great location to downtown however the amenities made our visit that much more unique & special for our weekend get away. Look forward to going back soon.

The king suite had everything we needed for a great weekend get away. It even had a new Samsung washer and dryer which was great to use for our bicycle clothes at the end of each day. The bathroom was spacious with thick large bath towels. The kitchen was well stocked with items for cooking and Doug made sure there was beer and wine available for purchase. The outside courtyard was a relaxing and inviting place to have lunch al fresco or a glass of wine before dinner. We will definitely stay here again if back in the area!
