Misleading Listing with Safety Issues and Poor Communication
We were excited to stay at the “Rosseau Retreat with Hot Tub,” but our experience was disappointing across multiple areas, especially given the premium price tag.We weren’t sent check-in instructions or a door code before arrival. We called twice, left a voicemail, and waited over 30 minutes outside before finally contacting VRBO support to gain entry.The hot tub was unusable: murky, filled with debris and bugs, and clearly not maintained. The host later admitted it had been *broken before our arrival*, but never disclosed this. Given the listing title highlights the hot tub, this was misleading.The unit was not guest-ready. Issues included: no mounted smoke detector (just one sitting on the fridge); an outdoor power bar powering the hot tub wrapped in duct tape and plastic bags hanging from a lamp near water; a cracked bathroom tile preventing door movement; broken air fryer; stained bakeware; a dead kitchen outlet; stained pillows; unfinished decor (tags on furniture, wrapped painting on floor); chipped flooring; scuffed walls; drill holes in bathroom and ceiling; and no welcome or check-out guide.The lawn and firepit area were unkempt, and the home lacked privacy, close to the road and neighbors.When we asked for a hot tub repair update, the host took 20 hours to respond. This, combined with safety oversights and poor prep, made the stay difficult.We wouldn’t rebook unless major improvements are made.
