This property could be great if some small changes were made. The property owner never sent communication on how to actually enter the property or what the general guidelines were during my stay. It wasn't until after numerous text messages & emails did I receive the lock-box code to know how to get inside the home, which I did not get until I was at the San Jose Airport baggage claim. The owner apologized, she stated she was out of the country, but this information could have been provided well before the date of travel.
Entering the house, I found the back patio door left open. This was concerning since the house is located on the corner of intersecting streets. No book or communication left in the home; usually suggestions on places to eat or visit are left by the owner. No WiFi code was given, so no WiFi as advertised.
No guest sign in book to see how others enjoyed their stays. House is advertised to accommodate 12 people, but only plates & silverware to serve 10 available. Even though we were 3 adults and 3 kids, we were running the dishwasher more than necessary. The cups & plates in the cabinets were stained and dirty. No dishtowels. No corkscrew/bottle opener(this is wine country). No dish soap. No sponges. The house was dusty and floors had grease stains on the floor vents. No brooms or mops available to clean. We paid a cleaning fee and yet we are the ones trying to clean on arrival.
No central AC(which is normal for Northern Cali) however every NorCal house has portable fans for the summer. This house did not. Ventilation in the house is not great, which leads me to believe this is why the back patio door was left open upon our arrival.
Upstairs bathroom sink did not drain. Some of the bath towels had stains on them. The master bath's jet tub did not work properly.
Let's not forget to mention the cobwebs and spiders in all of the rooms.
It wasn't until the 2nd night that the owner stopped by the house and we addressed the issues. She was able to provide some items to remedy the situation (and WiFi code), but by this time, our stay was not as wonderful as we had hoped for. She also said the spiders are "local friends."
The beauty of this house is its location. Around the corner from the Villages, 15 min away from Stanford. But the magical location is not enough. The VR in VRBO stands for Vacation Rental. I did not feel like I was on vacation. I felt like I had just moved into a newly purchased vacant fixer upper.
