Welcome to Minglewood: our Old Tahoe oasis just 3 hours from the Bay. A place where you can relax without missing out on all the modern amenities of home. We created Minglewood as your home away from home, where you can shake off the cares of the city and enjoy the Old Tahoe lifestyle.
We genuinely want you to feel at home while you’re here. Promise. We bought this custom-built cabin after decades of ski leases and know exactly what it’s like to sleep on lumpy futons or try to cook Thanksgiving dinner with two dull knives and a frying pan. Not to mention the time we rented a place and there was a hot tub in the living room. Seriously.... So we get it. When you stay at Minglewood, you can expect a house that is decorated and outfitted just like a real home – complete with personal touches, a fully-stocked kitchen, and beds you can’t wait to crawl into.
The house is nestled in the neighborhood of Serene Lakes, one of the last places where Tahoe still feels wild. Expect two lakes within walking distance, lots of charming cabins, neighbors who wave hello, and children riding bikes in the street. You’ve got world-class downhill skiing 5 minutes down the road at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort and the largest XC ski resort in North America is in your backyard. Yep – Royal Gorge XC Ski Resort surrounds the neighborhood and is a short walk from the house. Or, skip trailhead traffic and snowshoe, hike, and bike- all out the back door. Plus, Serene Lakes is on the west side of Donner Summit, so you'll be settled in at Minglewood enjoying the hot tub, while the folks who rented houses in Truckee or Tahoe City are still fighting the traffic over the summit.
After a day of adventuring Tahoe-style, head back to Minglewood and cozy up with a book in front of the gas fireplace or soak under the stars in the hot tub. You can prepare a memorable feast for the fam in the fully-stocked kitchen, complete with Calphalon cookware, Henckels knives, and plenty of condiments. The main floor has a living room with a gas stove, dining room that seats 10 comfortably, full bath, and deck with 6-person hot tub and gas grill. In the summer, the deck has another dining table that seats 8 and adirondack chairs so you can eat dinner and hang out under the stairs.
Got teens? You might not see them all weekend! The first floor bedroom has a 3-person bunkbed, full bath, big-screen TV, xBox, and darts. And don’t worry – any dance parties or video game shenanigans won’t even be heard upstairs.
Got little ones? We’ve got your back. And a Pack & Play, highchair, kids’ cups and dishes, as well as some fun books and toys.
And did you ski or hike a bit too hard? We’ve got supplies for even the most hard-core weekend warrior. Tucked in a basket in the corner of the living room, you’ll find yoga mats, blocks, foam rollers, a heating pad, and even a muscle massage tool.
The third floor is the sunniest and has 3 cozy bedrooms, all with queen beds, new pillows, memory foam toppers, and lots of USB outlets for charging. Whoever ends up with the grey bedroom will enjoy their own private princess deck (be sure to call dibs now!).
And if you do need to take a zoom or two while you are there, no worries. There’s a desk upstairs and wifi can support multiple zooms, even when the kids are playing video games downstairs.
Plus, Minglewood ain’t your grandma’s cabin. No old flannel sheets or cheesy bear wallpaper here. We named the cabin after one of our favorite Grateful Dead songs, and as the story goes, Minglewood was an old cabin somewhere south of Memphis where friends gathered to dance and sing and shake off the workingman’s load. We’d like to think that’s exactly what you can do at the New Minglewood too. Throughout the house, you’ll find posters, albums, and other little nuggets which we hope you’ll enjoy as much as we do.
And remember that thing I said about wanting you to feel like you are staying at a friend’s house? I really mean it. You can expect clear, easy communication from me and I’m always a call/text away if something comes up.
So whatcha waiting for? “Come waste your time” at Minglewood!
