Overall our theee families had a pretty good time. However, we had quite a few issues:
Pricing: Given it is Labor Day weekend, we were prepare to pay a high price. However, having nearly $1,700 worth of tax and "fees" tacked onto the $5,500 quotes bordered on deceptive.
Arrrival: I booked the rental, but our friends arrived 45 minutes early and was told on the phone that only I can check in. When I called when I was 30 minutes out (was instructed to do so by the emails sent by the management,) I was told the person who will check me in is on the Nevada side and will be late. At the end, we ended up waiting for 1.5 hours for the agent to arrive. They also called on the day of departure offering a "late check-out," but we decided not to wait.
Cleanliness and maintenance: Most of the house was pretty clean, but all the rooms other than the remodeled kitchen appears to be from the 80's. The kitchen was prominently featured on the listing so again it felt misleading. The beds were well worn. There were cots and extra blankets, but there were no extra sheets. The bathrooms were dated and had a funky smell. There was a metal step ladder for getting in and out of the hot tub. It was functional but did not feel safe. The freezer was quite gross.
Safety: Beside the step-ladder for getting in and out of the hot tub, there were some additional safety issues. The most serious issue is the full-length sliding window in one of the bedrooms. One would expect it would lead to a balcony, but there is nothing but 12-foot drop to the side yard. This cannot have passed any building code. We were not able to gain access until sundown because the agent was late, and this was not pointed out to us during the walk through. Luckily no one was injured. The rental provided a stand-up paddle board and a kayak. To be completely fair, we really enjoyed playing with them. However, everyone going in and out of the marina had life jackets, and the harbor police was out in force. Life jackets should have been included at least with the kayak. Finally, due to the age of the bathrooms, it was very hard to adjust the shower temperature without getting scalded.
Noise and privacy: The house was located right at the mouth of the harbor, and there are hundreds of boats going in and out of the harbor all day and night. It was literally the boat highway. Many boats blast music as they go by. It is very interesting for us to watch the boats, but the noise can be a problem for some.
