I grew up here!

Attending family reunion in the Trail of Tears State Forest which was very close by. I grew up only a few miles from there too. BEAUTIFUL location and lots of room! Can't think of any amenities that it did NOT have! Owners were close and very nice people. I hope to stay there again!

Family connection at the Lake

Wonderful property, clean, beautifully decorated.All the basics for light cooking. We checked all the boxes, hiking, wine trail, shopping, relaxed, caught up, played board games and listened to some great vinyl in the evenings.

We loved the place! You have to stay in this very unique home with plenty of space and lots to do without leaving the property. We could have sat on the deck all day just enjoying the quiet. We will definitely book again in the future.

Overall a lovely property, but with some quirks! The cabin is darling, the lake & dock are super relaxing (great for bird-watching!), and the fire pit is fantastic. Itā€™s a remote location with just their family members who live on the property, so itā€™s very quiet & cozy. The hot tub is a wonderful perk. However, there was what looked to be a camera on the outdoor shed near the hot tub, which is not disclosed on the property details page (a VRBO policy). It faces the front door, and Iā€™m not sure if you can see the hot tub on it or not. The owner drove up to greet us the second we arrived, which took away a bit from the feeling of being in a remote, private cabin in the woods, and made us feel like we were being watched right off the bat. You are in a remote location so bugs & mice are definitely to be expected & we understand that, but there was fresh mouse poop in the silverware drawer that wasnā€™t there the night before, so we refrained from using their dishes the rest of the weekend. We let the owner know right away (sheā€™s very quick to respond which was great, and she did apologize & let us know their regular pest control person had just done routine maintenance, but no offer of bringing over disposable dish ware or cutlery to get us through the weekend). Thereā€™s also a LOT of rules; I stay in VRBOs often, and Iā€™ve never seen so many rules. Once you make your reservation, the ā€œrental agreementā€ you have to sign has 54 rules listed out.

Colorful renovated Aframe

This was a great space with multiple places to hang out and fun decorated bedrooms. Kinda tucked away but perfect for what we needed- we had a work retreat and barely left the property the whole time and were very comfortable! They put a lot of love and details into the renovation.

Hidden oasis

I adored the property! It was the best place to stay and relax and read and just rest. Tasha stop by and greeted us which was really awesome and even their golden retriever Nala stop by for a visit.! We even got a taste of local honey which we ended up purchasing and meeting with the lady down the road who had the honey. Simply amazing thank you!

Home away from home

Loved this unique cottage right off a private lake! We loved the quiet and peaceful backyard with firepit and hot tub. Our hosts were so easy to communicate with and very gracious with their home. You can tell they have taken a lot of time to make it a wonderful and eclectic spot to spend a relaxing weekend.

Eclecticly Besutiful and fun

Between the lake, hottub,firepit,games room etc. This place had so much to enjoy. The hosts where excellent on responce time to questions we had. 10/10 wpuod reccomend this place to everyone. If you do plan on fishing be sure to be bring extra strength bug spray, as you are out in the woods near water. Thank you for our magical weekend getaway!

Great place but stressful stay

The place was great. I loved the decor, the hot tub and the locations outside. It ended up being stressful though because apparently we missed the fact that if more than 2 people come, you have to pay an additional fee per person per night. We assumed if the place had 3 king beds, it slept at least 6. Apparently not so donā€™t miss that detail. I guess they were watching us because I woke up Saturday morning to missed calls, voicemails, texts and emails saying if we didnā€™t pay for the extra people they were going to stop by, it was very stressful and unnerving and we wouldnā€™t have booked it if we had know how expensive it would be. Iā€™m still trying to recover from the extra money I ended up having to spend in the middle of my ā€œrelaxingā€ girls weekend. I realize it was my fault for not reading the fine print but it really affected our stay. We also walked into the cabin to find a dying mouse on the floor and had to remove it ourselves. There were some wasps inside also. I also had a hard time getting the code for arrival because Vrbo would not load the message with the information.

Perfect Southern Illinois Getaway

I cannot say enough about this AMAZING house and host! This was the absolute perfect place to spend several days and nights while taking in the most beautiful parts Southern Illinois. The proximity to Shawnee National Forest, Giant City State Park, and SIUC is ideal. The house is a real treasure and our kids did not want to leave. We cannot wait to go back again!

Wonderful property, wonderful hosts!

My wife and I and our five year-old son were fortunate enough to stay at this cabin for a couple days while on spring break. To say that the cabin was perfect and the hosts were gracious and accommodating would be an understatement. They went out of their way to make sure our son felt welcome on their property. Burrito the burro was an absolute delight. The cabin is super close to many great hiking/exploration spots in Shawnee National Forest. Our two days went by super fast and weā€™re already looking forward to returning. Thanks folks!

This cabin is amazing. If you're looking for peace, beauty, or esthetics... absolutely wonderful. It was just my girlfriend and i for valentines weekend and the property owner had flowers, chocolates (really good ones!), Hershey kisses (everywhere! Lol) and it was just wonderful in all aspects... and buritto visited us the first night, and s/he was so freaking cool... we were both amazed that s/he didn't smell (at all) and just wanted pets... nuzzled with my girlfriend for a bit, then went about his/ her business... def will reopen to this cabin in the future! just wonderful

Unique well equipped getaway
