Neighborhood
Downtown is compact and walkable: narrow streets, galleries, seafood restaurants and small shops centered along Dock Street and 2nd Street. The feel is “Old Florida” — low-rise cottages, fishing and aquaculture facilities, and working waterfronts. Nearby natural attractions include Cedar Key National Wildlife Refuge, Shell Mound area, and Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve. Expect limited services after early evening and a relaxed, slow‑paced vibe.

Getting around
The island is highly walkable for visitors; most guests use foot, bicycle or golf cart for short trips. The town uses one primary access road (State Road 24) — cars are common but streets are narrow. There is no local public transit system on the island; taxis and local passenger shuttles are limited. For outdoor activities, kayaks and small-boat tours launch from the marina area.
