Dog-friendly Cabin in Appalachian Mountains! -near AT, firepit, with hot tub!
Fern Valley
John & Jordan were enjoying a picturesque mountain drive through north Georgia. Passing through Suches, they saw a realtor’s sign poking out of the side of the road. John kept driving for a few seconds then looked at his wife. A second after that they were pulled over with their blinkers on.
“Let’s just see what it looks like,” he said to Jordan. “What’s the harm?”
He swung the car around.
*** “We live in Atlanta,” Jordan tells me as we sit down to chat about Fern Valley, some six months after that fateful day. “There are buildings everywhere. Traffic. People going about their big-city lives. And that’s fine, but sometimes you just need to get away from it all.”
That’s why on the day they saw the Open House sign in Suches, then walked through the charming “lean-to cabin,” surrounded by lush ferns, they made an offer immediately.
They still laugh about that look they exchanged, pulled over on the side of the road. “It was like a flip of a coin, you know? What if we just kept driving?”
*** For the first few months, John & Jordan spent every weekend at their new cabin. And every time they went up, they fell even deeper in love with it (& Suches). Right away they knew it would be their home away from home, as well as an investment property for their future guests to love, too. They put personal touches on the recently remodeled half A-frame, combining the rustic & the modern, as well as local artwork (including a piece that Jordan’s sister painted), until their little forest hideaway on Happy Hollow Street was perfect.
They want their guests to experience the same peace & tranquility that they do, every time they escape their busy city lives & come up for a weekend.
“When you’re sitting on the deck,” — their favorite spot for morning coffee — “in a rocking chair, nothing but the tree canopy all around… it’s breathtaking,” Jordan says. “Especially in the spring, when you’re surrounded by the lush & wild ferns for which the cabin is named, & it feels like this l& has been untouched for centuries, & the green all around is so, so bright…” Jordan pauses the conversation as we’re both momentarily transported to the place she describes.
“You know?” she says. “I’ve been all over, & the fern green of North Georgia is unlike any other: it is the color of quiet places, of secret trails & cool earth beneath the trees.”
*** In addition to the deck, the outdoor area, with its pond & stone firepit & repurposed railroad ties, adds to the magic of Fern Valley — & it’s a kid’s adventure paradise. But when you step inside, you’ll find all the creature comforts of a modern home waiting for you.
“We’re cooks, & we’re coffee fanatics,” Jordan proudly tells me — & looking at their kitchen & coffee bar, I know she ain’t lying.
The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to prepare anything from eggs & bacon to a full-on feast — think sizzling steaks, roasted veggies, fresh salads. There’s a full-size stove, top notch appliances, sharp knives, quality pots & pans, spices you name it.
I ask her about the coffee setup. “We wanted to jazz up that area,” Jordan says, “& make sure that every kind of coffee & tea drinker would be happy with their brew. So we got a new dual coffee maker with carafe & pods, a long stalk slow-pour kettle, & a collection of mugs that is sure to include The One that you will be attached to for your whole stay.” She laughs, knowing that I know exactly the one she means.
*** There are properties where dogs are allowed, & some that are dog friendly. Fern Valley is where your furry friends are practically treated as equals. And because John & Jordan’s puppers, Zion & Rainier, are a part of their family, they’re happy to provide inside & outside dog bowls, cleaning supplies, & even dark towels (for after pond time) for their visitors’ four-legged companions.
Your other children will also enjoy the cabin: they can climb the ladder to a kid-friendly loft, watch DVDs, read, & play games.
*** As we wrap our chat about Fern Valley, Jordan tells me how proud & happy she & John are to know that people have been enjoying their little mountain retreat. They read the reviews (all five-star) & love how cozy people feel there (“peaceful & relaxing”); how much they enjoy the outdoor activities & hiking in the area (“...IN the neighborhood — one-minute walk to the Appalachian Trail!); & how excited all the cyclists & motorcyclists are to carve up the local mountain roads & trails (“...went mountain biking & it was GREAT!”)
The review that is closest to their heart, & the one that may neatly sum up why they decided to make Fern Valley their home?
“What a beautiful place to stay with your loved ones.”

Very nice and clean hot tub was great and very quiet the only thing I notice was the back door did not lock so something that might need to be looked at. Other than that very enjoyable will be making another trip to this cabin thank you

The pictures were deciving. Houses are close. Has a smell. AC didn't work. Only had space heaters. Had to open windows and sewage smell can in bathroom window.Guest bed had broken box spring on left side. Had a sticky substance by back door. They didn't swipe or vacuum under coffee hutch. Cleaning crew left vacuum out plugged in in middle of floor. Shower head in master bathroom sucked it was like a 1970 head. The master bedroom door wouldn't stay shut. The guest bathroom shower door wouldn't shut. So had to hang towel over to keep shut. The best part was outside. Other than the giant piles of dog crap.

Wonderful atmosphere and nice house in a lovely area. My Girlfriend, dog and I wanted a relaxing weekend getaway and we were very pleased. The house was clean and well maintained, the outdoor lighting and hot tub were great. The owner was in contact frequently and very attentive. The inside of the coffee maker was a bit dirty, but there were coffee pods and tea bags provided so we just drank tea instead. It was a very cozy cabin, would recommend and would be interested in coming back.

The location is very central to the surrounding cities but gives you the quiet of the night. The house it self is ok. We had issues with the wall heaters not working upon arrival and during the stay with freezing temps, which was improtant since there was no central ac/heat. The second shower door can/will leak onto the floor, the lock to that door is also on the outside not the inside so someone put that on backwards, the master shower head isnt the best, if you are staying with 4 or more people a few nights bring towels and rags/lufas, and we had some creature having a blast in the ceiling all night which kept us up. The hot tub isnt put out of the wind and there is no good lighting by it to see the area around you. The check in process, property manger, and check out process was a dream though. I would rate it a 3.0 overall. Not bad but could be better with some adjustments and upgrades.

We enjoyed our stay at this cute little cabin! The neighborhood is quiet and was great for some walks in the cool fall weather. The cabin is near other properties on a small neighborhood loop, but we had enough privacy. The hot tub was very clean and delightful in the evenings. We liked the location near Dahlonega and enjoyed some town outings after braving the winding mountain road. The host was great with communication and sent us a nice link with local recommendations. Thanks so much!

I was trying to surprise my husband with a quick trip for his 50th birthday! Within minutes of booking late Sunday evening for a Monday evening arrival, I realized it was much farther than we could travel for one night so I immediately messaged to ask if I could quickly cancel. Although I realize it says no refund, I assumed since it was less than 2-3 minutes that maybe they would atleast let me postpone and come a later date when we could stay longer. It wasn’t as if I had this trip booked for days or weeks and then tried to cancel at the last minute! This may be the most beautiful place to stay, but if it’s owned by people with no empathy or compassion, I would think twice before I book this cabin!

We certainly enjoyed our stay at this cute property, it was certainly spacious enough for the 2 of us, plus dog and had all we needed for a comfy stay. Even dog bowls! The route is a little windy if coming from Dahlonega, but that is no sleight on the cabin!

Expectations not met
Checked out early. First night there was no heat. Had to stay at a hotel. Second night was given floor heaters. Very dangerous. Checked out in the morning. The cabin had a stench. Very disappointing.
