"Rooms are basic but the location to orangutan rehab center, etc and wilderness surrounds is all worth it. Unique jungle experience. Staff and owners were so very helpful and considerate. Excellent cook here! We had a medical episode and the owners and staff couldn’t do enough to assist us! Thank you to Jessica and her staff."

"The location is great walking distance to the Rainforest Discovery Centre, Sunbear and Orangutan sanctuary. The breakfast was average, no eggs! But staff were lovely. It’s a comfortable and basic place but we enjoyed it very much."

"I loved this unique hotel, it was a tick off the bucket to stay in the rainforest! The staff are so friendly and the food is excellent and great value for money. It is very easy to get to the animal centres and I was still able to access the internet so could order grab taxis. I’d definitely recommend bringing bug spray! 100% would recommend, where else can you stay in the rainforest?!"

"Overall okay. Only thing is the master bedroom aircon which takes awhile to fix. Owner very responsive and provided welcome drinks when arrived. The area is good and quite close to shops. Good to have a car though."

"Pros are proximity to the airport, and available free shuttle to the airport as well. Otherwise an average 2 star hotel. Cons Breakfast is a buffet style with Rice, Noodles and Vegetables, and Chicken. Eggs are boiled but almost RAW. You can toast your own bread with butter and jelly. Coffee is ok. The rooms are not very clean. Ours was a Non-smoking on the 4th floor, but it smelled like cigarettes. There is Hot water in the shower. Only one half used roll of toilet paper was available. "The hotel and the room was very old and should be renovated urgently. The fridge was not clean and there was no shampoo in the shower. Staff is very kind and helpful. The location was not that good, because there were only local restaurants nearby. The price was ok for all that. "

"Very pleasant conference / function style hotel. Nothing really wrong with it but a bit impersonal and set on its own away from restaurants and bars. Pool was very dirty - we wouldn't use it. WiFi was slow and patchy. Bed was comfortable and shower excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. "

"It's a piece of luxury in an interesting place - don't let the exterior building fool you. You can be walking into another world in Sandakan and Hotel Sandakan is a sanctuary amongst it. The staff emulate the local Sabahan hospitality and friendliness, I will stay again next time."

"I booked for my father. He said that the room soooooo narrow and smells bad. He doesn’t have a pleasant stay for the night and he don’t want to stay anymore at this hotel. He also mentioned, he told the reception that he will leaving early, and the receptionist overslept and took few minutes to woke them up. Terrible. "

"For the area of Sandakan that this hotel is in this is a pretty good option if you really have to stay here! I would not recommend the area at all. The staff here were very attentive and friendly. The room was adequate but the pillows were horrendous! Just lumpy lumps of hard sponge! The shower and sink use a pump system which was not smooth at all and you either had a ‘power’ shower or a trickle. The hotel is near the Central Market, Harbour Mall & the promenade plus local shops but don’t get...
