Pros: The inside has some new flooring, decent bedding, aftermarket AC, some minor homey touches and updates, but the renovations are a bit inconsistent. The yard is a good size. Walking distance to Old Town Lafayette and the Children's Museum is good.
Minor Cons: The house is old. You can easily tell it has had several additions that don't really fit together. Several doors are just curtains and rods, but weirdly windows in all three bedrooms don't have curtains or blinds. One bedroom opens through a curtain onto the dining/living room. The floors in different rooms are on different levels and have varied height stairs/steps (very non-handicap friendly). The basement bedroom is barely renovated. The wifi password was also indecipherable and the landlord unresponsive. The one working bathroom shower is very small/low ceilinged, with rusty/dirty fixtures.
Major Cons: The landlord got in touch the day prior to arrival to say the second bathroom, not advertised in the listing, was under construction. There was half eaten food and half-full water bottles in the fridge; trash can was full and bags of trash hanging on the back fence. The fence was too short for any dog that can jump even a little bit, and gates were patched in a way to make them unlatchable. One of the bedrooms is a lightly renovated Mudroom without a curtain on the large window in the Front Door to the house looking directly onto the sidewalk and passing traffic. Seriously, you can watch pedestrians and traffic pass a dozen feet from the bed, and they can watch you too...while you sleep. The Mud-Bedroom was also very dirty and had hairs/dirty prints on the bed. The house is right on Baseline Road, which is a heavy traffic road with large vehicles (semis and industrial too) passing all night. It was Very loud, repeatedly waking up everyone staying there, including my toddler. Any dogs who get excited by cars will have a very active stay.
Conclusion: This VRBO is a lemon. Our party requested cancellation of a week-long reservation with VRBO the same night we arrived, contacted the landlord directly first thing in the morning, and absolutely could not stay a second night. The landlord was brusque at best, maintains a 14-day Prior To Arrival cancellation policy, and we are still pending reimbursement (if it comes at all). I do not recommend this booking for anyone with kids, dogs, disabilities, or who enjoys a good night sleep.
Sincerely,
Tired Tenant
