"Elevator from parking garage was out of order. Had to carry my suitcase up 8 flights of stairs to access the hotel lobby. Asked staff at checkin to comp the 5GBP parking charge but they said the car park was owned by the town and they couldn’t do anything about it. This is unacceptable. The staff should have provided vehicular access to the lobby for unloading which would have been possible under the circumstances."

"Such a lovely hotel and a great place for a relaxing stay. Our room was surprisingly large for three of us and was lovely and clean and had everything we could need. Really thoughtful and unusual decor really added to the whole hotel and the restaurant was lonely. Great food and a particularly friendly waiter. If you are looking for a break from the boring chain hotels and some fab food and service then it’s for you."

"Very enjoyable stay at The Cheshire Cheese Inn, staff were very helpful and friendly. We had the evening meal and the food quality was excellent and the service great. Nothing was too much trouble and the team chatted to us throughout the evening. Breakfast the following morning was top notch (my particular favourites being the sausage and bacon). "The room is well renovated and everything works, mainly the shower. The breakfast is excelent, but expensive. There are some work in progress on the square in front of the reception, with the street interrupted, so the taxis and ubers sometimes don’t come to the right place. But it is a good location anyway to walk to the nice city centre of the (former) “steel city”, already converted to pedestrian streets. There was a fire alarm once in an ungodly hour, with everybody using the stairs to go out. It was not clear if someone in a given room made some smoke or if it was a failure on the programmed weekly fire exercise."
