As a first-time guest visiting from the UK, my stay at the Royal Regency Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan was one of the worst experiences of my trip.
Upon arrival, I reached the hotel approximately two hours before my scheduled check-in time. The male staff member at the front desk informed me that I would need to pay an additional fee of 10,000 Pakistani Rupees for early check-in. I questioned this charge and also asked whether the hotel had a luggage storage facility where I could safely leave my belongings until check-in time. I was informed that no such facility was available, and I therefore felt pressured into paying the amount requested.
Later during my stay, I was repeatedly asked to pay additional charges, despite already having paid £1,348.00 in full for my trip and accommodation. This caused me a great deal of confusion, stress, and upset. When I requested clarification and asked management to investigate the matter further, I was still informed that these charges were supposedly valid.
I stood my ground and continued to dispute the matter, only to later discover that the front desk advisor who initially dealt with me had taken the 10,000 Rupees for his own personal gain. The hotel itself later confirmed that this was not an official hotel charge. I was extremely disappointed and distressed that, as a single female traveller, I was taken advantage of in this manner by a member of staff.
