Please review my email exchanges with the host, which have been removed from my phone. Four adults and four children arrived to an unlighted house in a rural like dark setting at about 10 pm with no access code and no cell service. Driving back towards Hilo we reached VRBO who was unable to reach the host. We explored all the hotels in Hilo and all were full. Preparing to sleep in our cars, we finally got a reply from the host who admitted he had lost our reservation and so had not managed for our arrival. The next morning when he offered no recompense I suggested he remove the charge for the first night. After considering overnight he offered a 5% discount. I declined. Later I got notice of a small refund. Terrible hosting. The house was very well appointed and enjoyable. I would include the lack of cell service in the online description. Might be relevant to people with medical conditions for example. Or for those like us locked out at a late hour in the dark!
