The Bunk House has been beautifully renovated for Spring 2022, featuring a brand-new kitchen, expanded master bath with a walk-in “shower cave,” new ceilings, windows, and rustic barn-style doors throughout. First-time visitors will love it, and returning guests will be amazed by the upgrades!

Once a caretaker’s residence, this charming wood-sided home now welcomes guests looking for comfort and convenience near the East Barn and Equine Facility—perfect for trail-riding enthusiasts. Enjoy views of grazing horses from the front porch or watch riders set off on nearby trails. Inside, the home is fully furnished with Western flair and ideal for a relaxing retreat.

Unwind in the screened porch or private backyard with a grill and outdoor hot tub after a day on the trails. Located in the heart of Leatherwood Mountains Resort, The Bunk House offers easy access to horseback riding, dining, tubing, fishing, biking, and more—all in a serene mountain setting.

This home is located in the 4000 acre, Leatherwood Mountain Resort in Ferguson, NC. Our guests are invited to enjoy our Horseback Riding program where you can experience the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains pristine wilderness by Horseback (reservation required). You will have access to miles of hiking trails, mountain streams, stocked fishing pond, community swimming pool, play ground and tennis courts, creek tubing (seasonal), on-site restaurant with active live music & event calendar (guest advised to check hours when planning meals).

Leatherwood Mountains has surveillance or recording devices on the property. Our neighborhood is very safe and our property very secluded. For added peace of mind, we have security cameras by the gated entrance and common areas. Individual properties may also have cameras on the EXTERIOR of homes. Please be assured they are not directed at private areas, hot tub porches etc.

Holiday Reprieve

Wonderful accommodations, very comfortable yet rustic cabin. Appreciated the hot tub and fenced in back yard for our dogs. Loved waking up to the cats and horses. Went horseback riding and took a couple trips into local towns of Wilsborough, Boone and Blowing Rock. definitely need to pull up maps before leaving premises due to no local internet! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the friendly staff!

Sweet 16 birthday gathering

We stayed at "The bunkhouse" and was absolutely thrilled with everything about our stay! We took our daughter with some friends for her sweet 16th birthday. They wake up open the curtains and watched the horses(while in the warm) and even from the hot tub one morning ! The cats greeted us and stayed on our back screened in porch and was super friendly with all the kids. Hands downs ....a Beautiful cabin and We will be back!

Beautiful and Peaceful

Ranch was amazing, peaceful and very inspiring. The BunkHouse was great and very accommodating. People were great and welcoming. We plan to return and hopefully stay longer next time.

Perfect place to stay!

This is the perfect place to stay! They have everything you need right here; fabulous restaurant, pool, and your own personal hot tub! We will definitely stay here again. Another plus to this location is its not way up a mountain and still close to Boone. The horses are a plus too to watch and hear in the mornings!!!

Wonderful

Had Granddaughters their (1-celebtaing 16th birthday). She loves working with horses so the Bunk House was perfect. Loved the early morning views from the big window. It had everything we needed or wanted. If possible, we will come there again in the future. ALL the staff was SUPER !!!!!

Great way to introduce small children to horses

Wonderful property/horse farm/gated community. 1 and 3 year old girls loved watching the horses out the window and petting them. Will bring them back for riding lessons when they are a little older. Everyone was really nice and helpful too. My only somewhat negative response is that it was hard to regulate the temperature in the house for sleeping purposes. My 1 year old's room was always 7 degrees warmer than my 3 yr old's room (using baby monitors to track and it just felt a lot warmer). I'm not sure there's much you can do about that though unless there's just a problem with ventilation.

Beautiful!

This place is perfect! The view is amazing with the horses. Its not up a mountain which is perfect for those anxious about the drive. Its about 30 minutes to either Blowing Rock or Boone so the location was perfect for us. Will definitely likely book again!

Family mountain trip to shop for Christmas.

I found this property online. It looks so cozy and rustic I had to get it. I was so excited about going to spend a week here. When we got there it was everything that I had thought it to be in the pictures on the Internet. It was just right for my family we had enough space. The surrounding with the horses and the people were awesome. We also had a chance to get in the hot tub every night which made it awesome. We were about An hour from each big town like Boone but it was worth the drive because it was beautiful. My family will be coming back and staying again.

Friendly and easy to check in an out. Just the right amount of space and the location is fabulous

Site is a great place to relax. housing is old, but has wifi and tv and such. Didn't not have anything I needed. A little buggy, but it's on a horse farm and that's to be expected. Hot tub was wonderful. Location is perfect for rest and relaxation.

The only way it could be improved is to offer a stocked fridge of sundries for the entire stay. The only bad part was leaving for the long trip to Walmart in Wilkes.

Great stay!

Beautiful locale with hiking and lake within close range. Cabin was beautiful, well maintained, and had bare necessities for use during our stay. My only complaint would be the stink bugs and lady bugs, but I know those were in season.

Relaxing Getaway

We had a very relaxing girls weekend here and we will definitely do it again! To wake up every morning and see the horses and the gorgeous views was exactly what we needed. The people who work there are so friendly and ready to help or answer any questions. The only concern we had was the place looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in awhile. Maybe no one was staying there for awhile but the dishwasher was dirty on the inside and a few small areas but overall excellent stay! We will be checking out the other places you can rent in the mountains too!

Great Location

The property was in a nice location close to many walking trails and with horses right across from the house for animal lovers. There were several ski locations within about 45 min to a little over an hour. The cottage was cozy with a nice fire place and hot tub. There were all the necessary appliances available as well with a full kitchen and laundry room. Two things made it a 4-star rather than 5-star rating. There were a lot of bugs that got into the property (lady bugs, stink bugs, etc.) which the property info did mention but it seems like more should be done to try to reduce the amount of bugs. The beds also need to be replaced to increase the comfort for sleeping.

Perfect getaway

Absolutely perfect! The house was very clean and well stocked. The property is well kept and clean with unbelievable beauty and horses everywhere! Everyone was so friendly, helpful and so kind!! My 9yr old enjoyed asking the workers lots of horse questions and every one of them were so kind to him! Someone came out on first night to help us troubleshoot. Showed up quickly and was happy to help! But there was also lots of privacy and felt like the secluded getaway we wanted. The fishing was disappointing but there was a basketball court and playground. We will definitely be back!

Horse Lover Stay

Booked this for a birthday trip for our daughter. Horses right outside of the house was perfect. Did a trail ride. Staff was very friendly. Beautiful location with lots of walking trails.

Relaxing Retreat

Stayed in the "Bunkhouse", and, while older, it was clean and comfortable, and everything worked as expected. The horse farm and grounds lent themselves to a very relaxing environment and experience.
