Characterful no longer applies. We spoke to other guests and they found the same with one even without a working shower. Major staff shortage. "Very tired hotel! Geo thermal pool is not geo thermal. Rooms are untidy and dirty. We had ‘willies’ drawn in to the bathroom mirror. Screws in the wall but paintings in the wardrobe. ?? Carpet was dirty and other guests rubbish still on the floor. Curtain rail was broken and hanging off the ceiling so curtain would not shut properly. Spa was very tatty. "Room was adequate, the heated towel rail was on the other side of the bedroom wall so the bedroom was uncomfortably hot, even at night - but the wife preferred this. The bed was quite firm and a good size. It was difficult to view the TV screen from the settee on the back wall. Tea (Yorkshire) and coffees were plentiful - not so much biscuits. Full English, plus cereals, juice, toast and tea/coffee refills welcome."

"I highly recommend this hotel. Very friendly and professional staff. Every member of staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. An excellent choice of breakfasts included in the price. The restaurant was excellent in the evenings. The location is fantastic with wonderful views of the beautiful Peak countryside."
