Gulf-Front, private pool, roof top deck, game Room - Strand Castle

Strand Castle is a Gulf-front house with an ideal beach house layout- 4 bedrooms, a Game Room overlooking the Gulf in the 4th bedroom, a small, private pool, and roof-top Crow's Nest. It's easy to see why this beach house is one of Dauphin Island's most popular vacation rentals.

This elevated, two-story home has a Master Suite on the first level with a private full bath. There is also a half-bath off the kitchen. The Great Room is large, open, and has a flat-screen TV over the fireplace. The Second Level has three bedrooms, two of which share a Jack and Jil half bathroom with a shower. There is a third full bathroom on this level and a Game Room (great for night time or rainy days). The game room is also the 4th bedroom and has a bunk bed and sleeper sofa. The rooftop has a Crow's Nest, which provides panoramic views of the Island.

All of our Dauphin Island vacation home rentals come complete with linens, towels, and fully-equipped kitchens, everything you need for a great family beach vacation.

Please note the following:
1. Minimum Age for the Primary Renter is 25 and Primary Renter must be present for the entire stay.
2. Maximum Occupancy numbers include Children 3 and over and cannot be exceeded at any time.
3. All of our Homes are Non-Smoking.
4. A signed Rental Agreement is Required, which contains additional Rules and Guidance.
5. This property does not allow weddings or parties.
6. Check-in time is 3 pm and check-out time is 10 am.
7. Start dishes and linens before departure.
8. Take the trash can to the street on Tuesday night and Friday night.
9. This home is NOT pet friendly.

The place is nice, but there are some things that just haven't been taken care of. Some of the mattresses are less than comfortable. The stopper in the tub upstairs was gone so that left us with only one tub for the kids, that was doable, but inconvenient. The pool on the deck wasn't the cleanest, it is old and needs some work. The kitchen could use a few more essentials, but overall we had a great week. The ability to just walk downstairs and be on the beach was wonderful!! Check in was great, kitchen 6/10, wi-fi was great!!!

Strand Castle in poor shape top location and size

House is a nice size top location one of the tallest around with the crows nest overlooking the island, on the water. Negatives: House is old, needs remodel. Kitchen cabinets were dirty which the cleaning lady came back out and wiped down. The bathroom vanities, tub/showers have been painted with paint instead of being replaced, which makes them not be able to be cleaned properly. The cleaning lady came back out and re-cleaned them and they still had black grime all over. She said that it will not come off due to the way it was painted. All around the door knobs and light switches were black fingerprints which she wiped off for us, should not have been left that way though. Holes in the walls, door handles hanging off two windows with broken glass. All of this was reported to management immediately. They sent a maintenance man out, but he said that there are a long list of things that need to be done later in the season, but nothing he could fix for us at that time. The pool was very cloudy, brown floating grime around edges, found sharp plastic objects down at the bottom of the pool that were not visible due to cloudy water, but stepped on when we bravely entered. Management sent a pool guy to clean the pool again, but it is just discolored won’t come clean. Remained cloudy afterwards too. Beds very uncomfortable. Master bedroom king mattress sinks in, all bunkbeds, thin mats vs mattresses Didn’t focus on the negatives and enjoyed the outdoors and beach!

Great Getaway

This is such a wonderful property!! We loved having the game room for breaks from the beach and the eagles nest for a fantastic 360 view. It was a bit difficult with back to back showering only because the tubs fill up and take a bit to drain. Also, this property is advertised as having a “heated” pool, which is not the case. The pool was filled and chlorinated, but all the controls for heating it were removed and was heated only by the sun during the day. Not a deal breaker for us, but it could be a disappointment if you’re booking it during the cooler season. One caution to consider if you are staying with small children is there are four broken posts along with a large chunk of a concrete protruding out of the sand hidden by the water. One post and the concrete are visible during low tide. We used driftwood to mark the location of these up on the beach for added safety. This home has new mattresses which were very comfortable, as well as an abundance of pillows, towels and toilet paper. There was an extra large storage crate with plenty of toys and five beach chairs. We loved this property!!

overLl it was good. heat was not working on the pool, but they did come and try to fix it. Several spots in the dry wall they appeared to be in the middle of fixing. overall we were happy and would stay again

Fantastic house RIGHT on the beach

We are two families with a total of 11 people, with kids ranging from 9-22. We have gone to Dauphin Island every year since 2017. We LOVED this house. We loved that the kids can walk down the steps and be on the beach. Our kids also loved the pool and the rooftop deck. The host was super communicative and organized. Very easy to deal with. House has lots of space and is very comfortable. We had a big birthday dinner with other friends joining us. Kitchen was great. Plenty of room for everyone. Just a great house!

Strand Castle

We enjoyed our stay at Strand Castle. The rooftop deck provided beautiful sunrises and the bigs and littles enjoyed the pool table. The deck pool was wonderful! However, upon our arrival the floors and coffee table were covered in sand. There was also a bug problem. We have stayed in several other homes on the west end and have never had this issue. I informed the lady who dropped off the fresh linens for the cleaning crew the morning of our departure. She was going to inform the rental company, but said that all of the homes were sprayed on a regular basis.

Wonderful Family Visit

We throughly enjoyed the stay being close to the beach and the size of house was perfect for our family. We just have a few minor recommendations for improvement: 1. There is a small amount of mold growing close to kitchen and vents need to be dusted. 2. We believe there are roaches in the framework of house with a few coming in from behind the ocean side door frame while doors are closed. 3. Fridge was slow to cool with a few items not being fully refrigerated a few days later. Besides that, we had everything we needed and overall cleanliness was great. Thank you for a wonderful visit.

Beautiful beach, house needs work, boring location

Pros: - the beach is spectacular and though neighbors are close, feels very private - house fit our group really nicely - bird sanctuary has really nice trail system Cons: - pool was broken (no heat) for most of our stay. Repair staff told us it breaks almost everyday and they keep coming out to ‘fix’ it but that owners really need to do a larger repair on it. - deck furniture, as mentioned in other reviews, could use major improvement. - deck needs to be redone. Major splinter issues with kids. - no grocery store nearby. Drove to Mobile to get affordable groceries for the week (3 hour endeavor). Everything on island is super overpriced. - towels are abysmal. Would be great to provide beach towels as well as proper bath towels. Anyone flying here doesn’t have ability to bring all of this themselves. - If you plan to only hang out at the house, this is a perfect vacation spot. Otherwise there is virtually nothing else to do on the island or within a one hour drive. - on island restaurants are pretty bad. Lastly, might have been in our packet somewhere, but emergency storm information would have been good to have. We had a pretty bad storm and weren’t sure what an evacuation might look like, how we would be notified. Doesn’t take much rain for island to flood. We had a great time, but with the amount we spent, I expected more.

Relaxing at Strand Castle

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Strand Castle. All the kids had their own spaces, we had pool tournaments every night, and waking up to the view of the beach was priceless. This was our first time at Dauphin Island and Strand Castle helped make it a great trip. The kids loved being able to get into the pool and hang out on the beach that was "right there." The house was incredible. The views from the crows nest were unmatched!

Family Vacation

The location was perfect. Being right on the beach was so nice. The pool and crows nest are a great perk. We had a couple of small issues and they were very quick to respond. The only real problem we had was with the deck furniture- way too uncomfortable to use.

Great but a few issues

We went for a get away and time to visit my mother. I have been recovering from a very long illness and needed a brief change of scenery. There was a small error in cleaning that was a simple mistake and would have been rectified but due to covid and my health, we elected to not have people come into the house to clean. The managment company was very sincere and honest and even had a dinner delivered to us b/c they felt bad. It wasn’t necessary but very appreciated. The only main issue that I had with this rental property was the lack of comfort. The beds were ok, not great, the furniture in the living room was ok. The big issue was outside. We generally spend a lot of time sitting outside listening to the ocean and with my health thats about all I can do. The deck wood was chipping and we all got splinters and all the deck furniture is old nailed wood. No padding or cushions. It was very uncomfortable. The game room upstairs was very nice and the kids enjoyed it greatly. The second floor balcony would have been nice but no place to sit. The crows nest is also very nice but only a wooden picnic table that was chipping too. Other than that, it is a reasonably nice house. The people at the management company were very responsive and seemed to be sincerely kind people which, for me, goes a long way. I may not stay at this property again but I would not hesitate to rent a property from Dauphin Island Beach Rentals.

Unexpected getaway

When covid 19 began and our original trip had to be cancelled my kids were very disappointed. We were told about Dolphin Island and how secluded it was and thought this would be perfect. We booked Strand Island for 5 days but luckily the next reservation cancelled so we ended up staying for 10 days. Although the beach was closed, we were still able to play in the sand around our house and the police did not bother us. The bonus was the heated pool on the deck. It’s not a overly large pool but it was perfect for our family. The house had lots of beds and easily slept my husband and I and our 6 kids. Because of the virus we choose to stay at the house and cook all of our meals. The kitchen was stocked with just about everything we needed. There was a small grocery store less than 10 miles from our house where we could pick up things as we needed it but be careful because they were very over priced but we appreciated the convenience of it being so close. Being surrounded by sand, it can be hard to keep the sand outside but they had a outside shower to help wash sand off to keep from bringing it all inside. One of the days we were there was extremely windy and knocked the satellite off the house for the TV. We called the management that night and it was replaced by the following afternoon! This was no fault of the owner but appreciated how quickly the got a hold of AT&T to get it fixed. Luckily we had some DVD’s in our car and they had a DVD player so we could keep the kids entertained since it was so windy outside. Overall we had a great experience and would love to come back when the town is not closed down because of the corona virus. Would definitely recommend!

Wonderful House and Location

Nice and roomy with 2 porches to enjoy. Comfortable beds and kitchen with all the amenities you need. This was our first trip to Dauphin Island and we made many wonderful memories.
