The spacious one-storey apartment near Orvieto in Umbria has huge arched windows through which the light floods in on sunny days, and which give a perfect view of the surrounding garden. A short walk to the village of Monterubiaglio, the apartment is also within easy reach of the ancient streets of Viterbo and the historic lakeside town of Bolsena.

Belvedere is sure to raise a smile – how many holiday apartments have a billiard table at their heart? That sense of fun is also reflected in the décor: the bright red baize has inspired the bold accents in the curtains and the pretty mix of cushions on the long sofa and benches that furnish this vast open-plan space. The living quarters are cleverly divided into areas for cooking, dining and relaxing. Through those arched windows, a huge pool and a terrace for sun-worshippers awaits (retreat to the second shadier spot set with a bench and chairs if the heat gets too much). In the evening, snuggle up under the stars on the love seat on the terrace.

Our Thoughts

There’s such a fun feel to this apartment, from the billiard table to the gigantic pool (to which you’ll have almost exclusive access). The attractive, open-plan living space is well-planned and comfortably executed, and enhanced by a cosy bedroom. If you can’t play billiards when you arrive, you’re sure to be able to by the time you leave.

Notes

One bedroom. One bathroom. The owners live next door and occasionally use the pool. The sauna costs €10 per person per hour and heating is charged at €15 per day if used. The owners can arrange in-house wine tastings for an extra fee.

Pool

The large, irregular-shaped pool is accessed by Roman steps and has a diving board. Its terrace offers open views across the countryside towards Orvieto. Chlorine cleansed, 16x18 with a depth of 1.10 – 3.0 mtrs. Open from mid -May to mid -September weather permitting
