Mountain touches are found throughout and include art that captures the natural beauty of the mountains, vaulted tongue & grove ceilings and a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace in the living room, a rustic laurel wood stair railing, wood floors, and a hand-hewn wood mantle.  The dining room has a newly installed tongue and groove ceiling. The owner's attention to detail and desire to create a fully maintained and peaceful haven for his family and guests for years to come is evident throughout the home. 



Grandfather Knows is perfect for a weekend getaway or a longer stay.  The home offers many day-to-day conveniences such as a mudroom, two-car garage, work/desk space just off the kitchen and living room, lots of storage, a separate laundry room, and so much more.  Every bedroom has its own TV and all the large flat-screen TVs have easy-access HDMI & USB ports.



Your cares will vanish from the moment you enter the gently sloped paved driveway and see beautiful poplar bark shutters framing the home's windows, two high-quality willow chairs on the artfully designed flagstone patio, and beautiful landscaping surrounding the entrance. There are no stairs obstructing entry to the arched, solid wood front door making an easy entry for every member of the family.



On the main level, you will find a chef’s kitchen complete with granite countertops, a gas range, a single oven, stainless appliances, a tiled island, and bar space.  This leads you to the spacious living room with abundant seating and stylish decor, open to the view of Grandfather Mountain.   The large flat-screen TV with a soundbar and gas fireplace completes this comfortable space.  Just off the living room and kitchen are 2 half baths, the dining room with seating for 8, and access to the expansive main-level covered deck.  The deck features a beautiful view, a ceiling fan & skylight, and two grills.  Whether you cook your first night or order takeout, or head to downtown Blowing Rock for a gourmet meal, this is the perfect place to watch the sunset over Grandfather or enjoy a pleasant mountain summer breeze. 



Also, on the main level is the master bedroom with a private bath, deck access, walk-in closet, and king bed.  Just off the master is a separate sitting room with another gas fireplace and flat-screen TV.



Head downstairs to find a large den area with a sectional sofa, a new leather swivel chair with an ottoman, a flat-screen TV with a soundbar, and a pool table.  Also on this level are two King bedrooms, one bunkroom with two bunk beds, one with upper twin and lower full bed; one with upper twin and lower twin..  The lower level has two full bathrooms and access to the bottom-level deck. 



The backyard may well be some guests' favorite spot, with a strong firepit, surrounded by block walls and ample seating.  The partially shaded backyard was re-landscaped in 2022, with a new lawn, perennials, flower gardens, periwinkle beds, well-placed stone walls, and a great flagstone path or stairs from the upper deck to lead you down to enjoy the lovely garden.  As the landscaping matures, this is sure to be the most in-demand part of the property, for family time around the firepit or a game of cornhole or bocce ball.  Plans (not yet in place), include a bar area under the lower deck. Feel free to ask us for an update!  Firewood is sometimes available, and if it is, you are welcome to help yourself to what is there. Although firewood is not promised or guaranteed, local vendors do sell firewood, year-round.  A new parking area below the backyard was added in 2022.  Although not as easy to access as the driveway, it does provide extra parking for a vehicle you are not using as frequently.



Have children? Grandfather Knows has a Pack'N'Play, high chair, toddler cot, 2 BOB Strollers, and a hiking backpack for a toddler.

All TVs are Smart TVs with YouTube TV (can only use YouTube TV on 3 TVs at once)  and Roku Streaming using your own accounts.  No Cable TV.

Check-out: 10:00 AM

Late Check-out or Early Check-in at 1:00 PM:  Must be requested and approved 48 hours in advance. A taxable fee for approved Late Check-out and Early Check-in will be applied.

Guest Access:

Guests have access to the whole house & property with exception of locked owner areas.

Getting Around:

***During the winter season, 4WD vehicles are required for this cabin from Thanksgiving-March 31st. If you are within these dates please make sure all guests have 4WD vehicles or are able to obtain a 4WD vehicle prior to the stay.
