"Easily one of the most genuinely charming and historic hotels that I have stayed in, and I’ve stayed in a lot. The rooms were huge, the ceilings high, and the mattresses newly replaced (the old ones were behind the building in an alley, waiting to be disposed). They were so comfortable we actually stripped the bed in our room to find out the make. Also, the people at the desk were very friendly and seemed to take a lot of pride in their property. "

They would not switch room to a larger one even when available for additional charge (maybe their policy is different but still did not expect that). No...

"The hotel could use a basic "refresh". While my room was a nice size, it was a bit run down and could use an overall upgrade. The staff was great - Shane is wonderful! I was not clear when housekeeping was to come. Towels were changed every day, but my bed was only made 1 out of the 3 days I was there. Good location. "

Then we are put out back where it already looks like there's homeless and drug deals happening. Shirtless men hanging out on the walk way smoking cigarettes and drinking beer greeted us on oir way to our room. "The steel door showed signs of forced entry. There was a round puncture several inches in diameter and more than an inch deep, as if from a police (hopefully) battering ram. The interior of the door frame had evidence of being knocked in, as well. The interior moulding of the door frame was screwed back together in several places.
