Summary:
Set in the stunning village of Luss, this beautifully renovated historic Mill offers a luxury escape beside Loch Lomond. Perfect for relaxing getaways, group celebrations, or outdoor adventures, it comfortably hosts 10 guests. Ideal for those visiting Cameron House or Loch Lomond Golf Club, it's the perfect base to unwind and reconnect in one of Scotland’s most scenic locations.
The Space:
Tucked just off the gateway road to the Trossachs and Scotland’s stunning West Coast, The Old Mill offers more than just a luxury stay—it’s an experience. This unique conversion was thoughtfully designed to give guests the feeling of a true escape. Whether it’s the peaceful sound of the stream flowing past the garden, birdsong from the surrounding trees, or a bracing cold plunge in the stream itself, every detail is here to help you unwind.
For the active guest, there’s a gym on-site so your daily routine needn’t be interrupted. And when you’re ready to relax, a sauna and hot tub await to soothe your muscles after a day’s adventure. The scenic woodland walk from the cottage to the top of Creachan Hill offers a breathtaking view over Loch Lomond—captured in our drone photo—and the rewarding descent is made all the sweeter knowing what’s waiting at the bottom.
Steeped in history, The Old Mill was once part of the Rossdhu Estate, originally used to store timber for Rossdhu House, now the prestigious Loch Lomond Golf Club. It later served the community in different roles, including as a garage for classic cars, before being lovingly restored into the home you see today.
We hope your time here leaves you feeling recharged and connected to the beauty and heritage of this very special part of Scotland.

The Neighborhood:
Luss is a postcard-perfect village set on the western shores of Loch Lomond, offering visitors a tranquil escape steeped in natural beauty and historic charm. Designated as a Conservation Area, the village is known for its beautifully preserved 18th- and 19th-century cottages, cobbled streets, and the picturesque Luss Parish Church, which dates back to the early 1870s.
Its stunning lochside setting makes Luss an ideal base for water-based activities, including kayaking, paddleboarding, boating, and fishing. The beach area is popular for picnics and leisurely strolls, while boat trips departing from the pier offer a unique perspective of Loch Lomond’s many islands.
Luss is also a walker’s paradise, with scenic trails that suit all levels—from flat lochside walks to more demanding routes such as Beinn Dubh, which rewards hikers with breathtaking views of the loch and surrounding mountains.
Despite its peaceful atmosphere, Luss is well-equipped for visitors, with charming tea rooms, gift shops, a visitor centre, and local eateries serving Scottish fare. The village’s balance of natural beauty, outdoor activities, and traditional Scottish character makes it a must-visit destination in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
Getting Around:
The Old Mill is nestled in a peaceful rural setting, making it the perfect escape into nature—but due to its countryside location, public transport is limited. We strongly recommend guests travel by car to get the most out of their visit and explore the surrounding area with ease.
The nearest train station is located in Balloch, which offers regular services from Glasgow Queen Street. From Balloch, it’s just a short taxi ride to reach the property.
For those driving, The Old Mill is conveniently located just off the A82, one of Scotland’s most scenic routes. This road runs along the western edge of Loch Lomond, passing through Inverbeg and up to Tarbet, where it splits towards Oban, Fort William, and the West Highlands. The journey offers breathtaking roadside views of lochs, forests, and mountains—some of the finest in the UK.
For a unique and luxurious way to explore, we can help arrange discounted private boat hire on Loch Lomond. This is a fantastic way to discover the loch’s many islands and attractions, including Ben Lomond, Inchcailloch, and Luss.
Whether you're road tripping through the Highlands or simply soaking up the lochside serenity, The Old Mill is an ideal base for adventure and relaxation alike.
