Village house 200 meters from the sea

Our house is located in the old part of the village of Wijk aan Zee. It sits on a small road. Only residents of that road can reach it by car; otherwise, the only people walking by are those who want to take a short stroll through the village. The house is a single-family home. There is a garden on the west side (afternoon and evening sun) and at the back (morning sun), where you can sit in complete privacy.
The house was built in 1928 and later restored. On the first floor is the living room with a wood-burning stove, television, (sleeper) sofa, and a dining table. In the addition—which is very bright thanks to a glass roof—you’ll find the kitchen, the bathroom with a double shower, and a separate toilet. From the kitchen, you can step right into the backyard, so you can enjoy breakfast in the morning sunshine.
There is a bedroom on the upper floor. It is very spacious and has tilt-and-turn windows on the front and back. The windows are fitted with high-quality blackout curtains. The bedroom features a king-size double box spring, a sleeper sofa, and a large built-in closet with sliding doors. There is also a half-bath.

The house quickly feels like home thanks to its colorful decor, artwork, and the beautiful natural light streaming in. The kitchen is practical and efficiently laid out with a stovetop, an oven, and a large fridge-freezer. For cooking, you’ll find a selection of basic spices, plenty of pots and pans, and ample tableware and glassware.

The garden features a dining table with chairs and a garden bench. A parasol is also available. And there’s a drying rack and a clothesline.

Wijk aan Zee is an old, authentic seaside village. It features a church square with an old church (1400), small cafes, shops, and houses. Of course, you’ll also find a fish stand on the square serving delicious fried fish and herring. Wijk aan Zee is a top seaside resort with a beautiful, wide beach behind the dunes. The village has a supermarket, cozy cafes and restaurants, a post office, and of course… the dunes, the beach, and the sea. From our cottage, it’s only 200 meters to the dune access point, and the shops and cafes are all within walking distance. The house is a great base for bike rides through the dunes, walks along the beach, or one of the many other sports activities, such as learning to (kite) surf. On the beach, there are plenty of beach bars that rent out chairs and umbrellas or where you can relax on the patio for lunch. The beach ends on the south side at the Noodzeekanaal and features a long pier extending into the sea. Here, the beach is very wide, providing plenty of space for all kinds of activities, such as blowkiting and beach sailing. It’s fun to give those a try.

Wijk aan Zee is located 34 kilometers from Amsterdam and 12 kilometers from Haarlem, so it’s a great base for a day trip to these cities. You can go by car or take the train from Beverwijk. It’s fun to visit museums, attend events, or enjoy some great shopping. But Wijk aan Zee, Beverwijk, and Heemskerk also have a packed summer program. At the tourist information office next to Cafe de Zon, you’ll find all kinds of brochures and a calendar of activities.
