Designed to present a warm and welcoming atmosphere and equipped with all the necessities needed for a delightful stay, Topsail is the perfect sanctuary.



The Space:

Built in 1760, this home has been lovingly restored by the family who own it, following guidance from Historic England. Topsail is named after William Scoresby Junior, the man that invented the Crows Nest and once owned this house.



The heart of Topsail is the charming open-plan kitchen and living room. The living room space features comfortable seating, stylish décor and a television that guests can use to unwind during their stay. The well-equipped kitchen provides everything that guests need for quick snacks and delicious meals during their stay, whether it's for a short term break or a longer getaway.



In the bedroom at Top sail, there is a luxurious king-size bed that is the perfect place for guests to have a restful sleep at the end of each day. The exposed, sloping beams add to the characterful, inviting atmosphere of the room. The skylight windows flood the room with natural light and can even provide a perfect view of the Aurora Borealis when the conditions are right. Guests will also find a sink and vanity in the room, alongside a walk-in shower for guests to refresh themselves throughout their stay.



A well-presented WC on the landing, fitted with a toilet and wash hand basin, offers a useful and convenient addition to the home.



Also on the landing, is plenty of space for hanging clothes and storing belongings during each stay.



Guest Access:

Topsail is an apartment on the top floor of the building.

To reach the apartment, guests will have to go up winding stairs so should be careful when doing so. We would advise guests to bring smaller luggage as the 42 stairs are very narrow.

Parking is available at the local pay and display's.



The Neighborhood:

Topsail is situated on St Hilda’s Terrace, a sought-after residential area on Whitby’s West Cliff. The neighbourhood combines the charm of historic Victorian architecture with easy access to the town centre, making it popular amongst both permanent residents and visitors.



The area is within walking distance of Whitby’s sandy beaches, the town centre, local shops, cafés, restaurants and the railway station. Nearby green spaces, including Pannett Park, provide attractive recreational opportunities, while the dramatic Yorkshire coastline and surrounding countryside offer excellent walking and outdoor pursuits.



Getting Around:

The property is situated in a convenient location on Whitby’s West Cliff, with many of the town’s amenities accessible on foot. The area is well suited to walkers and cyclists, with easy access to the Cleveland Way National Trail, the Yorkshire coastline and the stunning landscapes of the North York Moors National Park.

Whitby railway station provides regular services to Middlesbrough via the scenic Esk Valley Line, while local bus services offer connections throughout Whitby and to neighbouring coastal towns and villages.

For motorists, the A171 and A169 provide direct routes to Scarborough, Pickering, Guisborough and the wider North Yorkshire region.



Other Things to Note:

Please note that this is a pet-free property and not suitable for children. This is because the property has many steep and narrow stairs with no suitable storage space for children's equipment, making the restriction necessary.

There is also limited head height at the edges of the rooms as it is a loft area so please take care when moving around.

The undercounter fridge only has a small icebox top for frozen food.

Guests are advised to bring smaller suitcases if possible as the staircase to the property is narrow and winding.
