Home was very clean and comfortable. Nicely decorated and quiet. We enjoyed hikes, fishing, bbq on the grill and watching the birds. The hot tub was super. It was a nice getaway for my wifes birthday. Hope to return next year.

Escape to Serenity: A Weekend at the Secluded Woodland Cabin

Perfect Get Away
This was our 2nd stay at this location and it was absolutely perfect. This is the perfect place to come and disconnect and really just enjoy the view. The views and the amenities here allow for a relaxing stay. Highly recommend. Paula is super easy to get a hold off and a very welcoming host.

Cabin in the woods
The cabin/house was wonderful…clean, well equipped, charming, steps from a lake, on an extremely quiet road away from everyone/everything. Saw deer, lots of birds, etc. The host, Paula, was terrific! We loved it!

quiet getaway
Everything was really nice. The property owner was fast to respond to questions we had. We really enjoyed the hot tub, snacks, and lake. Only thing that may improve the stay would be some better mattresses. Would definitely book this property again.

7th Anniversary Trip
We had a great time at this property! The drive from Baltimore was easy and we arrived before dark on a Thursday night and left Monday morning. We got lucky and had a great weather weekend. We were greeted with homemade cookies and apple cider, thank you for the treat! We were also greeted upon arrival and every morning upon waking up to deer in the yard which we loved! The house was clean and the kitchen was well appointed. I cannot say there was much missing. The house is cozy and we felt right at home and so did our two little dogs. We kayaked every day, we both caught fish each day, the lake is wonderful! We did bring our own kayaks because we have fishing rod holders but the kayaks on hand would be great too! We went on long walks with the dogs around the lake, had 2 fire pit nights, enjoyed the hot tub and the wildlife watching is AWESOME! There were so many animals to observe, we loved the two beaver families in and along the lake, they were entertaining. The location to the lake is PERFECT a prime spot! We enjoyed the new restaurant in town, Mack's Bingo. We shopped and enjoyed local points of interest, everyone was so nice! On Sunday we drove to Mathias and trail rode horses to the top of the mountain at Cranny's Crow for the most amazing few. We could not have asked for a better trip. Thank you for helping make our 7th anniversary so great!

Nice place to stay for a long weekend of hiking
We had a great time celebrating our anniversary with a long weekend hiking and hanging out by the lake. The cabin was very well stocked, and we enjoyed spending evenings in the hot tub and by the fire pit. The Warden Lake public access is directly across the street, and you can even see the lake from the front yard. Paula was very communicative and helpful, and even left us a nice gift of cookies and wine for our first wedding anniversary. All in all we’d highly recommend staying here.

Remote and Peace & Quiet
Great location if you're looking for peace and quiet. The lake is a very short walk but difficult to fish from the banks. Plenty of wildlife, deer, fox and humming birds. If you're looking for a place with a lot of eating options nearby this is not it. Would definitely recommend or stay again. Just expect little to no cell coverage in the immediate area when not at the house.

Amazing
My husband and I had a wonderful one-week vacation in the middle of nature in this quiet, peaceful, cozy, and wonderful home! We brought our two dogs; they loved the space as much as we did! We had faced a short power outage because of a storm a couple of minutes before we arrived for our staying, but Paula got in touch with us, and we did not have any issues. She is an amazing hoster, takes care of all details, is kind, and is a great cook! Her cookies are delicious! Also, she left a botter of wine for us! Wow! If you want a place to get away, disconnect from the world, and recharge your energy! This is the place!

Cozy hideaway with lake access for fishing
We had a lovey 2-night stay at Paula's house to celebrate my husband's birthday and do some bass fishing at Warden Lake across the street. We were welcomed with a tray of chocolate chip cookies and a bottle of Sparkling Cider. The house was cozy and well-equiped. Everything was in working order. I have another reservation in August with a friend who loves to kayak. Paula has 2 kayaks for her guest's use which is great. The only thing I will bring is a firm memory foam pad for the main bed. Beds are subjective to each individual and this one was too soft for me. Looking forward to staying here again. Paula is the perfect hostess :-)

Anniversary weekend

Great location and great place
The lake house was better than imagined. Included an infrared spa and hot tub. Instructions for both and everything else in the property were clear and appropriate. Location was perfect for a getaway near the lake and splendid hiking in the mountains on WV. Will return soon!

Single-level home, big yard near wooded mountain slope, huge great room, lots of wildlife & birds. Can see small lake. Wardensville, VA does have a grocery store, but very limited choice for restaurants.

Great Stay
Some friends and I had a great time here fishing and enjoying the outdoors! The pictures don’t do a justice representing the house. Great front yard and backyard. Great bed situation and interior. Owner was also very responsive and helpful.

Perfect weekend getaway
We had a great weekend at this property. Relatively easy to find and get to, and so close to the lake! We didn't get to take out the kayaks while we were there (too cold and wet!), but the sauna and hot tub were perfect for after a long hike along the Bucktail Trail up to Halfmoon Mountain (just on the other side of Wardensville).

We stayed here for 9 days while working. Here’s how it played out:
Your first welcome challenge is to resist a perfectly baked soft and chewy cookie 🍪 Paula has prepared for you. Then wake up in the morning, look out the window and you’ll have chickadees, juncos, goldfinches, titmouses, nuthatches, cardinals, woodpeckers… coming by the bird feeders set up strategically for your appreciation as you sip your coffee. After coffee, walk outside to check on the weather. A great green space lies outside for your dog to play ball. Walk down the driveway and across to Warden Lake with a walking path and back for morning strides to get your blood flowing. Some mornings you’ll witness bald eagle flying over the lake, or a red tailed hawk in the front yard. Back in the house, workdays begin in the sunroom as the morning sun helps you light up the room which also happens to have internet access. You can choose to sit anywhere in the sectional, table, or even a rocking chair by the fireplace if it’s cold enough. Maybe light up a candle or two Paula has left for you. Meanwhile your dog is snoring soundly next to you as they sleep in the nice Serta dog bed Paula has provided, one of two. After the workday is over, it’s time for a nice hot tub on the deck looking out the moonlight or infrared saunas followed by puzzles or games. Or even a movie or favorite show in the Roku tv. Downtown is 10 min away for quick errands or even a nice treat like a hot apple cider at the Lost River Trading Post, pies and even eggs at the Wardensville Garden Market. But not everything is perfect like Paula’s cookies because otherwise where the fun would be in that? So bring your own TP 🧻, paper towels, bird seed, and garbage bags. Internet was about 30 Mbps over wifi so you might hit a snag or two if you’re on a video call with screen sharing or 2 zoom calls at the same time. But works mostly okay. We can’t wait to come back.

Secluded beauty
This home is in a quiet, secluded area that’s perfect for escaping city life and reducing stress. The beds were comfy and the kitchen had lots of cooking utensils. The hot tub and sauna were PERFECT for a winter weekend get away. Star gazing from the hot tub at night was incredible. It was a whole new experience with the clear conditions and almost zero light pollution. We’re already planning a trip for late spring!

Cozy getaway
We enjoyed this cozy, quiet getaway for a weekend. Paula was very communicative and left great instructions for everything including the sauna and hot tub. We only used the hot tub but it was perfect for a cold winters night looking up at the full moon. I was a little surprised that the house was across the street from the lake and not right at the lake, which was probably my own misunderstanding of the listing. It's just a short walk to it and you can see it through the trees from the house. The road is also quite quiet with not much traffic. So it really didn't make much difference. The town nearby has a cute bookshop and we picked up a few things from the market as well. Paula left us some delicious home baked cookies and a bottle of wine which was really thoughtful. If you are looking for a serene hideaway, this is it.

Wonderful peaceful and quiet. The kitchen stocked. The hot tub and fire pit and outside relaxing.
A nice get away to relax and unwind. Access to lake was perfect. Paula was great before during (if needed) and after the trip. She took the time to mail me left behind items. A great host with details needed to get there and pics of the leaves before I got there. Definitely plenty of room to enjoy inside and outside.

Great trip!
This is a great property, directly across the street from Lake Warden. The lake was very pretty and quiet- only saw a few people here and there. The house was very clean and the three seasons room was awesome. We didn’t use the sauna but it looked pretty cool. The hot tub was great, and we loved the fire pit area.

Spiritual Retreat
The cozy cottage at the lake was a spiritual experience for me. The home is cozy, warm and inviting. The natural elements and atmosphere surrounding the property are beautiful and healing. We had a wonderful laid-back weekend here. Kayaking was lovely even on a really hot day. So nice to relax in the hot tub at night, too. The large lounge area was great for hanging out, crafts, and puzzles. We'll definitely be back.
