The Waitahanui River originates from springs at the base of the Kaimanawa Ranges in the Central Plateau, and you will feel especially lucky to have the famous 'Rock Pool' within 5 minutes walk of Bellbird Cottage. There are also many easy walking tracks alongside the river - the cycle and walking tracks take you all the way to Wharewaka from this lovely spot. Plus, the Whakapapa Ski Field is just a 45 minute drive away for winter adventures!
