We were lucky enough to spend 4 weeks in this perfectly tucked away medieval property. Not for the faint hearted, height wise, as you arrive on a single track road with a steep incline. Worth the worrying first drive up the 'hill' though, because the views are fabulous looking down over the river Lot. You really are in rural France at its best.
Malcolm and Viv were wonderful hosts, helping out in any way they could but managing to keep a discreet distance when appropriate. The pool is shared and Malcolm maintains it daily. There were plenty of loungers and seating areas with table and chairs. The tiered garden/grounds are a delight and with footpaths from the door the area is great for walking.
The entrance to the East Wing is behind their main entrance but it didn't concern us that we were in close proximity. The layout is extremely medieval with the huge, elegant bedrooms all entered via an outside covered balcony, which overlooked a delightful courtyard for our private use. The open plan kitchen living area was spotlessly clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. If I have any gripes to make then it was the lack of kitchen equipment for cooking but I managed to improvise...
We found some excellent restaurants: Le Belvedere (*) in Bazouls, Bras (***) in Laguiole. Locally, Hotel de La Terrace in Villevie and Quai West in Entraygues. There are so many small towns and villages in the area that are beautiful, it is hard to choose favourites. If you like medieval, rural France, plus incredible views everywhere you go, you won't be disappointed.
We loved our time here and would happily return.
