Upper Place Vacation Cottage

A Cottage for all seasons enjoy the country quiet in a cottage built near a cool spring in the heart of the Kickapoo Valley. Over 340 acres of wooded hills to offer you year-round outdoor recreation. Go Hiking on one of the 24 hiking Trails located on the property. Go Trout Fishing in one of the many streams around the area. During season June - August enjoy the local Gays Mills Swimming Pool. If around during the July 4th holiday, come to the Kickapoo Stump Dodger Campground for a fun filled country music festival.

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend at the cabin and enjoyed hiking the property. Luke's hill is a butt buster! We loved the fact that we could bring our dog and that there was no cell service or internet. Just family time and quietness.

Met friends from IL which was perfect halfway point from Twin Cities. We spent the our days hiking the many trails on the property and enjoying the beautiful views of the hills and valleys. Evenings on the deck watching the sunset and grilling. Beautiful location!

lovely location and facility. Lack of wi-fi and phone made communication with relatives somewhat complicated for our family reunion. Narrow spiral staircase was challenging for us 2 couples over 60.

The Upper Place Cottage was a wonderful weekend escape. Our pups loved running the trails, and the leaves were at their peak for the season! The house was clean and had everything we needed for a long weekend. The staircase is a bit harrowing, but you get used to it. We would love to come back - especially in the winter to snowshoe or ski the trails.

My husband, my mom, my dog and I had a great a great weekend staying here. The property is beautiful. It was wonderful to have that many different trails around the property. The cabin is comfortable and is well equipped. The host James provided us with clear instructions about the checking. Thank you!

Very scenic, cute cottage. Be aware, no cell service. Had no hot water for our stay. Staircase may not be suitable for older adults. Extremely well equipped. Worth the stay even with the negatives.

This place was a needed step back from everyday life. Me, my husband and our two dogs had a wonderful and relaxing time, between looking out the big widows to hiking the many trails, it was perfect. There is nothing like throwing on VCRs & sipping coffee with fresh air surrounded by nature. Book it, you won't regret it.

We loved that there was no internet or phone service. The owners have put a lot of TLC into the home and itā€™s shows. A few things to plan for - the water pressure in the shower isnā€™t great but there is plenty of hot water. No washer/dryer. We didnā€™t feel we needed those things.

We had a wonderful time. My wife and I were looking for some peaceful R&R and this was more than we could have hoped. We hiked every day, spent lots of time on the deck, sat by the fire pit, and generally enjoyed all of the beauty of this location. And the "wall of windows" makes you feel like you are outdoors even when you are inside the cozy and very unique cabin. We only left the property a couple of times over the entire 10 days because everything we needed and were looking for was right here.

Our family had a wonderful week of relaxing in the beautiful cabin and hiking the wooded trails. We saw lots of wildlife, played many games of dominoes and cards, and enjoyed the large lawn. Not having cell phone service for a week was a great way to recharge and enjoy the scenery. I would recommend everyone to come stay and recharge.

Had an amazing 5 day get-away with my husband, son and dog. We took daily walk on the trails. I would recommend bringing high boots for the walks. So relaxing and isolated.

Had a great time there in VERY rural Driftless cabin. My wife and boys loved trout fishing across the road (just ask neighbor for permission to fish his land). Great place to rest, relax, read, hike... I really enjoyed meeting the owner too!

Wow, I have never been to the Driftless area before, and I don't know how I didn't see this amazing cabin until now, it has everything I want! It is a comfy, cozy and clean cabin with all the needed amenities and so many huge windows to sit and enjoy watching nature in winter. Then there is the property, if you want to hike all day in solitude with my dogs like I do, then this is your place! 340 acres all to yourself, and they have the trails all mapped out like a ski resort. There is no internet and you have to climb up a hill for cell phone reception, but that makes it an even more peaceful getaway. Love this place, and I can't wait to go back!

Loved staying here nestled in the valley of large hills. It is a very peaceful and relaxing property with a wide array of hiking trails. Our dogs loved accompanying us on hikes each day and we were lucky enough to have lovely weather that highlighted the natural beauty of the surrounds. The building on the property is comfy and clean with the fireplace providing plenty of warmth and crackle. Yes, there is NO cell service but that was more of a benefit since it helped keep the mood relaxed and focus on enjoying the break from all the other stresses of life. Definitely recommend for anyone who loves the outdoors and pet-friendly stay!

The area is simply beautiful and the house is the same. I brought my girlfriend away there to get away for her birthday and also to propose to her. We hiked up one of the many trails on the property and popped the question at the peak of one of the steeper trails and she said ā€œyes!ā€ We seen all kinds of wildlife like bald eagles, deer, and turkey. We would recommend anyone to stay here, you wonā€™t be disappointed if you want a quiet unplug from the world!

My fiance and our two dogs had a blast. The grounds are beautiful. October was the perfect month to go. Trees changing colors, cozy nights, and perfect hiking weather. Only issue we had was not wanting to leave.
