"This was a perfect home base for Taos desert and mountain adventures. It is very remote and beautiful, with hiking right out the door. Indoor stargazing with the Milky Way right out my bedroom window. It is a unique building with a really cool history. Our host Brenda was right on site with a wealth of knowledge about the area. I hope we get to come back soon. "

"Everything was as promised and advertised! Everything from the instructions to the restaurant recommendations were beyond helpful. The vies and surrounding area were absolutely beautiful and and breath taking and good for the soul. Would absolutely recommend! "

"Staying in this earthship was a truly great experience. It’s such a unique place. We went at the end of June and it was very cool and comfortable inside. Our hostess was very responsive and concerned about our comfort. I highly recommend staying here. We will be coming back next time we are out this way."

"Amazing spot. Cozy and quiet. Clean and fully stocked with barbecue grill, utensils, olive oils and spices. Everything worked as it should and there was no wear and tear on the house like I am accustomed to. Great communication and support from owners. "

"I was in New Mexico for work and I have always been intrigued by the Earthship concept. My stay was great- unfortunately not a lot of star gazing due to weather but watching the storms go along the horizon was impressive."

"My hubby and I loved our weekend getaway in this beautiful, peaceful, well-appointed place on the outskirts of Taos. The patio facing the mountains was our favorite hangout, both morning and evening, and the hot tub was a fabulous bonus - we watched the stars as we soaked. It's an easy drive to Taos - far enough away to feel calm but close enough to go for a meal. "Things that need fixing - 1) all the windows need screens on them with NO rips/tears AND ALL the windows need to be able to be opened (this is IMPERATIVE for a house that relies on ventilation for cooling), 2) the screen door needs to be operational WITH a screen to provide for ventilation, 3) for whatever reason the house is VERY noisy at night "

"Our family had a lovely stay at this cottage. It was a well-situated house with all the amenities we wanted--in particular a peaceful atmosphere. We loved the garden and the hot tub. The house was comfortable. We stayed two weeks and often stayed the whole day reading and playing games. Any issues we brought up were quickly resolved with the owner in an amicable way. We would love to stay again."

"We celebrated Christmas at the Straw Bale House and had a great time. Beds were very comfortable (and we are pretty picky about that) and really neat to experience how well the sun heats the house all on its own during the winter months!Owner Holli was VERY responsive to any questions and even provided a nice welcome basket for us! "Caretaker Lori was communicative & we enjoyed the hot tub, dark skies, & property overall.The house description doesn't include details about pets that I would have wanted to know before booking: pets should be in a crate when you leave, pets are not allowed on the furniture, & a 25 per hour fee will be assessed for additional pet hair cleaning beyond their standard cleaning (they recommended bringing a lint roller or masking tape)."
