May I apologize for taking a phone call below your room in my full voice the morning you were here. When I speak, as I should, in a soft voice, guests are not disturbed by voices transmission through the ceiling and floor. All walls and floor at Cameo Heights Mansion are heavily insulated but some sound manages to travel through the sheet rock and floor trusses into the room above. As to the darkness of the room, did you notice that blinds are openable and also hinged so they can be swung back against the wall. When opened, natural light comes bursting into the room. Also many of the light switches have a somewhat obscure dimmer on the side that many guests do not notice. Unless that dimmer slider is at the top, you are only getting part of the light from the overhead can lights.

Thankful for your review. Our goal is a perfect stay and obviously we didn't manage that in your case We will consider turning off the waterfall feature in the evening so guests with the doors open in the evening won't be hearing that sound. (This is a tough call because many say they really enjoy that.) We will gladly help guests with suggestions and appointments for outside dining in Walla Walla or Tri-Cities. We do suggest that they experience the dining at The Vine for two reasons: their convenience and the quality of the food is superb (many reviewers call "big city dining" saying that have seldom eaten better food anywhere in the world, not just Walla Walla. We started dining here becuase of our distance from local cities. We got lucky and hired Chef Nathan Carlson--a chef much better than anyone could have expected. He loves it here and our guests love him. Some might say he is overqualified for a small intimate bed and breakfast, but those would not be the persons staying with us who are enjoying his dining creations. Most guests leave saying they have never eaten food they enjoyed as well, both in style, presentation and flavors. Now you can be the judge of that statement.

Tough review but I am pleased to have an opportunity to explain our policy on service animals. 1. We ask guests who plan to visit our No Pet facility with a service animal to give us some advance notice of their intent to come so we can make the necessary arrangements and inform other guests who may be coming with an allergy to pets. (In this case, we received no advance notice.) 2. We will ask the guests 2 questions: "Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?" "What job or task has the dog been trained to do and has he completed that training?" These are questions that ADA has allowed and are intended to verify that those who need the services of a service animal receive them and those who do not, will not be able to abuse the privilege. 3. We ask them to sign a statement where they acknowledge that the service animal must be in their control of their master all the time. 4. We remind them that repetitive barking, leaving the dog alone in their room or allowing the dog to wander away from their master are not approved practices for service animals and may cause us to ask them to depart. 5. We ask them to acknowledge and agree that their service animal will not be allowed to get up onto upholstered chairs, the bed, in the sink, the shower, or bath tub. 6. Since we are a No Pet facility, we ask them to not to take pictures of themselves and their service animal and put these on social sites where the public may see them. There were issues with this animal which gave us the impression that the dog did not quality as a trained service animal. But even before we got to that point, the couple decided to depart rather than answer the questions. We are definitely willing to have qualified persons with trained service animals stay at our facility and the law requires that we do but not for those who do not qualify.

I don’t know quite what was said but we sure appreciate the 5 star rating.

I am glad for your review. Your reactions and feelings are very important to us. We allow what many facilities do not and that is you can drink wine in your rooms. However we do ask that guests sign a personal responsibility statement that they will be responsible for professional cleaning of bad wine spills. As to the tokens for snacks that only applies to the beverages and ice cream, those things in the fridge of which we have one per day, all on the honor code of course. All of snacks, of which there are many, we do not track. They are totally free. Again, where else would you find free pop and ice cream, whatever the quantity. Very few places, and not likely on the honor code. We feel it is a nice compromise between offering none of this and leaving it totally open where there are not bounds established. Most guests are very respectful but experience has taught us that where you offer many amenities and freebees, if you don't set such limitations and personal responsability, there will be some abuse. We will look to find a way to present this information that does not sound condescending. Thanks again for your review.

You have truly commented upon areas that we consider our strongest assets: Unusually excellent dinners, beautiful and delicious breakfasts, isolated location in the heart of wine country, focus upon the details, and great staff.

We appreciate that you mentioned The Vine. And why wouldn't you. After all, most guests find that eating at The Vine @ Cameo Heights Mansion may have been the highlight of their experience, and that is saying quite a bit.

We have really tried to be authentic in every way. There is no advantage in luring people in through tricky photography only to have them disappointed when they arrive. We prefer hearing them say: This is even prettier than it was on the website, which we hear all the time.

We appreciate your concern about cleanliness. It is something we focus upon and train upon all the time. It is apparent that we need to tighten down the hatches a bit more. But your comment about rules? We have so few rules because we hate that guests would have a list of things than can or cannot do. Yet every organization has to have some order and structure, rules if you will, if it is going to be maintained as a first class place. Since I am not sure what rules you might be referring to, I took a minute to record all the "rules" that I can think of that pertain to a guest's stay at Cameo Heights Mansion. 1. No ping pong after 9:00PM. 2. Swim suits are expected when you use the outdoor hot tub or pool and you can't dive into the pool. 3. Breakfast is a single seating beginning at 9:00AM. 4. Park your car in the slot that has your room's name on it. 5. No smoking in the Mansion. 6. No children under 18. 7. You may drink wine in the room but wine spills on the carpet or bedding that require professional cleaning you will have to pay for because the next guests will expect to see it as flawless as you do. 8. No pets. That's it! Which of these rules do you find obnoxious and you would you have us undo?

Susan, we appreciate your review. It would be helpful for us to know whether you were speaking about breakfast or dinner being served more promptly. Either way, it will be given our immediate attention. This is a complaint we recall receiving before so we a bit surprised. We have a different staff for breakfast and dinner service. In either case, perhaps this was just an aberration from our normal hot service. We will certainly talk with both staffs about making sure all main courses are served hot.

Quality in food is somewhat like a story my dad told about buy oats. "“If you want nice fresh oats you have to pay a fair price. If you can be satisfied with oats that have already been thru the horse, that comes a little cheaper.” We are focused upon a quality dining experience, even if that costs a bit more. We think we are providing a "Big City" experience in the small town of Touchet for a lot less than you would pay in the big city.

So glad it was an all-around great experience. That is what we aim for with every guest.

My response is very late, but better perhaps than no response at all. It is now seven years later and we are now in our 9the season. We have morphed a bit as time has passed, hopefully even the better than we were when you visited. We have you have will will come again and enjoy anew Cameo Heights Mansion.
