These semi-detached holiday properties are set in a peaceful location, surrounded by fields and streams, but with the added advantage of being only a short distance from the historic town of Great Torrington. Taw (ref 31062) and Torridge (ref 31063) have been converted from the old milking parlour, with sympathetic conversion and decoration keeping all of the old stone and brick work on the outside as original as possible. Taw is the smaller of the two, with one galleried bedroom looking onto the fields. It is open plan, light and airy with a small south facing patio to sit and enjoy the view. Torridge has two bedrooms, one double with an additional single upstairs and twin zip and link beds downstairs. The ground is level from the parking area through into the kitchen, first bedroom and the living room. The downstairs bedroom is suitable for those with walking difficulties or those who use a wheelchair. It has an en-suite shower room and a door out onto the south-facing patio. The living room also has a ramp from the patio doors to the patio. Crowbeare Farm has a small herd of pedigree South Devon cows. They are a quiet, docile breed with each one having its own character. Early to late summer is when they have their calves. They are fascinating to watch and friendly. The cottages are located a short distance from the civil war town of Great Torrington. This has a good range of shops and amenities, as well as the 1644 visitor centre, Dartington Crystal factory and just on the outskirts of the town, RHS Rosemoor is a must for keen gardeners. The cottages are ideally situated for exploring the other attractions this part of Devon has to offer. There are stunning beaches at Woolacombe and Sandymouth. Enjoy a day out at Hartland and visit the lighthouse, Hartland Quay and the historic fishing village of Clovelly. There are numerous National Trust properties in the surrounding area to enjoy. The town of Bideford lies close by where you will find most amenities and at Bideford’s quay, you can book a trip to Lundy Island. Slightly further afield, there is the Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks. Beach lovers will delight in the wide sandy beaches, the nearest being at Westward Ho! A day out at The Milky Way and The Big Sheep will keep the younger ones entertained. Beach 10 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

The only drawback to staying at this lovely cottage is the very narrow pot-holey access track to it

The only drawback to staying at this lovely cottage is the very narrow pot-holey access track to it after leaving the road. The cottage is spacious, well equipped and very comfy and the hosts very friendly. The town of Great Torrington has all the basics and we walked into it from the cottage. We were very happy to have Torridge as our base for exploring this part of Devon and had some lovely days out, in spite of the weather.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it was a great base, really quiet and peaceful.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it was a great base, really quiet and peaceful. We had my mum with us so the downstairs bedroom with ensuite wet room was perfect. Everything was immaculately clean and there was everything needed for it to be a home from home - cooker, washing machine, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher. There were products like antibac spray, washing up liquid, a few dishwasher tabs, hand-wash under the sink, as well as teatowels, washing up sponge/cloth, kitchen roll, which is worth pointing out as I took these with me as I've been caught out before. They also provide plenty of towels for each guest. There were fresh eggs, milk and biscuits which was a lovely touch. The owners didn't bother you at all but were so friendly and would have a chat if they saw you. We were there Mon-Fri and visited Woolacombe, Westwood Ho! and on a particularly miserable day took out daughter to the Big Sheep theme park which she loved, all within a fairly short driving distance. There are plenty of pubs locally and takeaways, shops etc in Great Torridge, just a 5 minute drive away. We really loved it here and want to come back for longer so we can explore more of beautiful North Devon.
