Loved it
Everyone loved the home and property! It was clear that the hosts work hard to set you up for a great stay including plenty of towels, blankets, chairs, kitchen supplies, games and great communication. The property looks like the photos and two bathrooms ended up being sufficient for our group of 15… so don’t let that keep you from booking if you’re worried about that as I was.

2nd time guests
We love this property! We have stayed here with a group of 15+ twice now. It's perfect for a large group. Ample parking for 6+ cars and lots of sleeping spaces with ample floor for air mattresses (extra sheets, blankets, and pillows are provided for the trundle and air mattresses). Love the screened in porch. The kitchen is equipped with everything needed to cook meals for big groups. The basement ping pong table was a huge hit! The host, David, is kind and responsive. He gave us recs on where to visit and was always available for any Qs. We went to Ambrose Meadery, Iron Fish Distillery, and went skiing at Crystal Mountain during our trip. All a short 10-15 easy drive from the property. There's a new concrete fire pit outside that we didn't use, but it looks awesome. Will have to do that next time.

We love this property and even more-we love how well the owners have made it so easy! Everything is labeled and they have thought of everything! Kids loved the new additions in the game room this year. Always a wonderful stay at Balsam on the Betsie!

Absolutely!
We absolutely loved it and we are so happy we stayed here. A beautiful private piece of property on the Betsie. The home had all the amenities and more. It did not disappoint in any way and we totally recommend staying here, we’ll be coming back next time we’re in the area.

Winter Family Getaway
Beautiful cabin home on the Betsie River. Very roomy with 5 bedrooms and the game room was a hit with everyone. Spent the weekend river fishing for steelhead and ice fishing- then games and cards at the cabin. The weather was beautiful and we were even able to enjoy an outdoor fire at the beautiful fire pit in the backyard.

Awesome House!!
We visited Crystal Mountain for our annual family & friend ski trip. Had 8 adults/6 kids. House was exceptionally clean & filled with so many fun activities for kids & we all slept very well and relaxed. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed to make our meals & had multiple seating options which was great. Host was great & responsive. Beautiful setting for house and quiet yet close to the Mtn. We would highly recommend this host and house for a stay!

Annual ski trip

Great holiday getaway!
Booked this for a family getaway for the holidays and we all loved it! There ended up being 17 of us (including children) and we had plenty of room for sleep and activities. We did not have snow but we’re still able to enjoy some amenities at Crystal Mtn nearby! My family members were already asking me to book this again for next year!! Highly recommend.

Excellent Vacation House!
We do a fall trip up north every year with a group of 5 older couples. This house was perfect! Had both indoor and outdoor fires and the fall colors were amazing. House was clean, well-stocked with everything we needed for our stay plus more. A lot of extras we have not seen at other rentals and greatly appreciated. Plenty of room to spread out and we all loved the game room. Already booking for next year. You won’t be disappointed!

My group and I couldn’t have been happier with our stay at Balsam’s. The house was clean and well stocked. The fire pit area is great to hang out at night. And the river is just a short ways through the woods. We got to see salmon spawning and eagles flying above the cabin. I highly recommend.

House was perfect for our stay. The Bon Fire area was perfect for our large group, tons of yard and indoor games when we weren’t on the river. Basalm’s properties never disappoint, always accommodating, main reason we have stayed with this host three years in a row.

Beautiful Listing
Our business, Sutton Entertainment Group was contracted to bring our twelve piece band, The Conspiracy Band from Columbus, Ohio to provide the entertainment for a wedding at the nearby Watervale Inn. David was wonderful to work with and responded immediately to my emails and texts. We were able to book all three of his beautiful homes to accommodate the musicians stay. We booked the Northern Nest, Lemon Lodge, and Balsam on the Betsie. All three properties were extremely clean and were as depicted in the photographs. There is a great deal of information on the area provided by David for those that are staying a longer period of time. I would highly recommend any of these properties.

Great Family Experience
What a great place! Our three generation family did not lack for things to do at this lovely home. We didn’t have to go anywhere for entertainment, however there was plenty to do in the surrounding area! The whole place was comfortable and well organized right down to the labeling on the kitchen cabinets! The house rules were simple and easy to understand. Also, information was provided about the area for food, shopping, and entertainment. David was very accessible and pleasant to communicate with when needed! All in all, this was a great place to stay! We will rent this home again!

Family Fun
Our stay at Balsams in the Betsie was just fantastic. We enjoyed all the neighboring towns (Beulah, Frankfort, Elberta). I highly recommend visiting both Frankfort beach and the Platte River beach. We also kayaked the Betsie from the cabin on a beautiful misty morning. We always enjoy St Ambrose meadery while in this area as well. There is so much to do! The cabin was clean, large enough for 9 of us of various ages, and the communication for the booking was a breeze! I would highly recommend this cabin to all families.

Comfortable Cabin
We stayed with 8 adults and 3 children. There's plenty of sleeping space and common space. The screened porch is a nice getaway and we ate on the back deck daily. The kitchen is very well stocked and clearly labeled which is a huge bonus with that many people. The bathrooms are small but functional. The downstairs game area is very nice, our kids loved the Pac Man game and ping pong. There are many board games and puzzles however, with any rental , many are missing pieces. We had one minor maintenance issue that was dealt with very quickly in one of the bathrooms. The volleyball pit is also a giant sand/dirt box. The kids LOVED it and thank goodness for the outdoor shower! The fire pit is wonderful. I love that it's concrete and you're not sitting in the grass or dirt. The river is farther away than I expected. It's 225 feet from the edge of the yard to the steps of the dock. It's a long way to carry kayaks if you bring them. You can't see or hear the river from the house which was a little disappointing. We had a lot of fun playing in the river and floating. The dock and ladder into the river are great and even our 3 year old could play in the river with help. The only suggestions I would make is to enclose the outdoor shower for privacy. An additional shower would be great for this 2 bathroom house. Also, the basement bedroom is missing a window screen. We had cool evening weather and wanted to turn off the AC but it got warm down there. Overall, a great property

We enjoyed the area, float down the river, alpine slide, macwood dunes, light houses, grill outs, fires at night, loved all the games in the house on a rainy day with cozy movie night, zip lining, mackinaw bridge. Overall a great trip!

Perfect Family Reunion Spot!
What a lovely time we had at Balsam's on the Betsie! Do not be afraid to stay here with a large group - there were plenty of beds for our party of 15 (plus one infant). Though the fish weren't biting in the river by the house (which is a little walk away and not visible from the house), the area has many perfect spots, and we had so many other fun things to do: kayaking, volleyball tournament, campfire (we didn't even go through all the wood they left for us). Sitting by the river and listening to the birds and an owl with my grandson was a blast. Our host, David, was perfect! All the information we needed was given to us well ahead of time and I only had a couple questions for him over our entire stay - which he answered immediately. The house was perfectly clean and so user friendly, with everything labelled perfectly from the coffee in the freezer to the extra bedding for the trundle. (By the way, my 6'3" and 6'5" sons had not problems fitting on the beds in the bunk room...and that is saying a lot! Do bring a space heater for the basement. The air-conditioning works beautifully throughout the house but a little too well downstairs. We were prepared for this and the heater made that bedroom perfectly comfortable. I have stayed in many VRBOs from Vegas to Wisconsin to Idaho - our time at Balsam's on the Bestie was a true blessing! So much so my 24 year-old son asked to go back in the fall...

Home away from home!
Our family just loves vising Balsams on the Betsie every summer. We go with my sister's family and our parents (11 of us in total), and all of our kids look forward to this stay more than any other vacation! The cabin itself is exactly as you would imagine a cabin to feel when you go "up north." It's like your own little peaceful retreat within the woods...and is always SO clean and organized!! And the beatiful fire pit area is perfect for roasting s'mores and cooking dinners. This past trip we went horseback riding at Outriders and oh my gosh, it was so fun! We did a day trip to Glen Arbor to climb dunes, shop and go kayaking. We brought noodles and tubes this year, too, to float the Betsie. If you leave the cabin and float downstream about an hour and a half, there's a bridge where we park a car to haul everyone back. So so fun!! Even on rainy days when we're bound to the cabin, we have a blast. The basement is filled with all sorts of fun games that kept our competitive family busy for hours. I just cannot say enough how much we appreciate every little detail that has gone into this property to make it so cozy and welcoming for guests. Just book it. You won't be disappointed!

Relaxing Family Getaway for All Ages
We had a relaxing getaway and the property manager was super friendly and easy to work with. He gave us many ideas of things we could do in the area. Our family of 9 included adults, teens, kids, and one 2-year-old. We enjoyed the fire pit, grilling out, and the game room at the house. The two kids (ages 2 and 6) loved playing in the sand, and we loved being able to wash them off in the outdoor shower. The house was well stocked with some basic necessities, kitchen supplies, and games. We made several trips to Crystal Mountain Resort to swim and for dinner. We also drove to both Frankfort and Traverse City several times for day trips. It was a nice vacation and we would definitely stay in this house again. It met our needs as a group of 9. The only negative we had of the whole trip is not really a ding on this property, but just something to know more about the area. We weren't able to catch any fish. Not sure if it was the time of the year or if we just aren't used to the type of fishing done on a small, fast-moving river, but we didn't even see anything. My dad (59) tried to go to a lake one day but there was no easy way to the lake due to high grass and weeds. Might have to try again during a different season. Thank you for providing this home for a nice vacation for our family.

This property is as advertised! Clean, organized and plenty to do. The cabin was well stocked with all the amenities needed! The cabin was very nice and felt like home. Really relaxing and quiet
Took a mid-week vacation with my two adult children here (21 and 18) to give myself a break and allow them to reconnect over exploring in the woods and some competitive games of ping pong. The house is lovely and accommodating for 8-10 people really comfortably as long as you don't mind hanging out together. If you don't want to leave and drive around, it's nice to relax and there's plenty to do - games, bring your own art supplies, enjoy the river, etc. If you do want to get out, Frankfort was a nice day trip and close by. The only negative was the amount of mosquitoes and major pollen (we were there at end of May). Allergies went a bit crazy and needed a ton of bug spray, but other than those uncontrollable things - very wonderful all around.

Quiet getaway
Very nice cabin in the woods on the Betsie River. Had tons of games indoors and outside for the kids. Corn hole and a fire made for the perfect evening. Plenty of room for everyone to sleep. Enjoyed our time there.

Wonderful get-away!
We really enjoyed our stay at this property! It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay- the kids really enjoyed the game room, and it was very conveniently located to Cyrstal Mountain for skiing. The only extra thing that would have been nice to have would be a hot tub, but otherwise no complaints!

President's Day Ski Trip
We rented the home for our adult children and their spouses. There was plenty of room and lots to do. We played games, cozied up near the fire and prepared lovely meals at the house. Most enjoyed skiing and snowboarding and we all spent an afternoon at the beautiful Crystal Mountain Spa. Communication with the property owner was prompt. Details and instructions for opening/closing and using the house was clear. We had a wonderful time and would definitely use the house again.

Great family ski vacation
The home was perfect for our family, especially the game room and the living room with the fireplace. My wife is very particular about the cleanliness of a rental, and she was impressed. The Betsy river runs through the backyard and it's beautiful. But the best part was the proximity to Crystal Mountain. We made several trips back and forth with the grandkids and it was quick and easy. Overall we had a great stay.

Betsie River Cabin
The property was beautiful especially with the snow. In interior was wonderfully decorated and very comfortable. The rustic look made you feel like you were at a retreat. My one year old granddaughter was able to run everywhere while we still had eye sight which was great. I would highly reommend thi rental for large families.

Beautiful Cabin & Great Location!
A wonderful fall trip at this cabin. There were six couples in our group and we do an annual fall getaway. The house was clean and roomy on all three floors. The open greatroom and kitchen were perfect for meals and gathering and the fireplace was a bonus. Excellent weather so we utilized the screened in porch, deck and firepit. So quiet and relaxing at the house and down by the river. The house is at the end of the road so it was perfect for fall walks. Kitchen and house were very stocked with everything. We had some fun ping pong in basement while watching some NCAA football. We got to tour Iron Fish Distillerty which was cool and recommend it. Hit Traverse City too for some wineries. Wish we would have had more time there, but we will be back. Thanks again for a great stay and house!

Beautiful
Everything was excellent if I had to criticize anything it would be … the home could use a Deep cleaning as walls and baseboards and inside drawers …. And there was not firewood to use… but overall … Beautiful and comfy
