Location, location, location. Spend your vacation in our charming and rustic Playa Avellanas Tree House, which includes 2 bedrooms, each with ice cold AC and queen beds, all with 1500 count Egyptian cotton sheets, with 2 bathrooms, and a downstairs living room and fully equipped kitchen, with teak wood dining table and lots of beautiful teak wood throughout, and with a total of 3 flat screen TVs all with Apple TV & Netflix, as well as very strong and consistent high speed WiFi, and all decorated with local art work, with 3 very comfortable extra large hammocks to choose from, The house is very safe and secluded, with an upstairs covered patio that has two ceiling fans, located outside the upstairs bedroom, and with also a 3rd story loft above the canopy, and with a BBQ, and beautiful gardens, all surrounded by nature. This is the perfect place for peace and quiet, relaxation and serenity. The property is all privately gated and on over 1/2 acre. Your reservation includes paid exclusive beach access through neighboring Cabinas Las Olas, and their world famous mangrove boardwalk. This is an incredible place to observe wildlife, enjoy beach walks and watch superb sunsets, as well as amazing swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, fishing, golfing and so much more. It is only a short walk to the beach out front, as well as lots of local restaurants, bars, shops, and groceries. Rental cars are not necessary. Taxis, tours, as well as transfers from Liberia airport (LIR), can all be easily arranged for you. Please let us know if you have any questions at all. Great Treehouse

We stayed at the treehouse for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The location is very close to the beach and local shops/restaurants. Ben was very good at getting back to me for anything we needed. Loved having the host cats hang out with us.

March in the Tree House

We spent all of March 2025 in the treehouse. Our host Ben is a great host. Very responsive, checked in on us routinely and was great at making transportation arrangements for us to go on excursions outside the are. The house was clean when we arrived and the bed was very comfortable. The air in the bedroom worked well and allowed comfortable sleep during very warm days. If you are seeking luxury, the treehouse is not for you. It is a bit primitive and minimalistic. But if you want quiet relaxation and want a beautiful covered second story outdoor veranda, this is the place. There were 2 markets within walking distance and so were multiple restaurants and cafes with a bonus gelato store right next door. The beach was about a 20 minute walk on a boardwalk through the mangroves. The boardwalk is a bit rustic and did have multiple trip hazards so care should be taken. But very doable for us. We enjoyed many sunsets on the Pacific shore. We loved our time in The CR. Thanks Ben for a great time away.

A week in paradise

We began communicating with Ben several months out before our vacation. He was very prompt in responding and answered any and all questions for us. When we arrived, everything was set up and ready for us. It was very enjoyable. This is not a five star hotel room, but very accommodating, very close to a wonderful beach and within driving distances of shops and restaurants. It was a great place to stay. If you do go, you must at least take a nap in the hammocks. They are wonderful.

I hope this helps someone not make the mistake we did.

We didnā€™t expect luxury, but we also didnā€™t expect this property to be outright unlivable. While Ben was polite over email and text, our experience at his rental was nothing short of terrible.The layout of the place is interesting, but the cleanliness was appalling. Dead cockroaches on the floor, red ants overtaking the bathroom, and a general sense of neglect made it feel dirty and uncomfortable. Iā€™ve stayed in plenty of budget accommodations in Costa Rica over the years, so I know what to expectā€”but this was unacceptable.The real deal-breaker, however, was the overwhelming chemical fumes. The concrete bathroom floor had been very recently lacquered, and the downstairs reeked of fresh, toxic-smelling chemicals. The smell was so intense that staying in the unit was simply not safe, especially with our young children. Within an hour of checking in, we had no choice but to leave.When we contacted Benā€”who was out of the country at the timeā€”he admitted the floors had just been freshly sealed. At first, he agreed to issue a reasonable refund, but when it came time to follow through, he returned only a fraction of what we paid. The amount he refunded barely covered the cleaning and extra guest fees, let alone the cost of the stay. His refusal to fairly compensate usā€”despite acknowledging the problemā€”shows a complete disregard for his guests.There are far better places to stay in this town. If you care about cleanliness, safety, and an honest host, book anything else.

Tree House Stay

Our stay at this charming property was simply wonderful! Host Ben was exceptional! Literally the best VRBO host we've ever had. He was incredibly responsive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. His attention to detail and willingness to help made a big difference. We felt well taken care of throughout our stay.The property itself had everything we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The AC in the sleeping spaces was excellent, providing a cool and refreshing environment, which made our nights very comfortable. The hammocks for morning coffee and reading was a really nice touch as well.I will say this after reading other reviews on the property. You are not at a resort! If you require resort amenities this is not for you, but the tree house was perfect for us.You could walk to the beach, but we drove, Ben told us where and how to park and we found it much much easier than had we walked.Overall, we highly recommend this property for anyone looking to experience a charming, rustic getaway with a host who truly cares about their guests' experience.

Rustic Treehouse

The Host Ben is very responsive and kind. I wanted to experience living among the Ticos and we loved it. This place is unique and cozy for the 4 of us girls. There are some minor upgrades needed but we are so easygoing that it was not a bother. We survived a huge thunderstorm and no power for just a couple hours. The property has 2 cats. Also each bedroom has air conditioning and we enjoyed Netflix in the evening. This area is definitely a surf town and several restaurants walking distance. Lolaā€™s was a 10 minute walk. Ben gave us passes to enter via Las Olas in order to get to the beach which was a very impressive walk because we saw monkeys and crabs. At the beac we boogey board and rained a little but that did not bother us. Tamarindo is about a 30 minute drive and that was an amazing experience. We drank, danced and laughed. We met Benā€™s friend Jeff and he helped us girl get to know a little more of Playas Avellanas. We ate at La Tia and the Pinto Tico was delicious. I really enjoyed our experience in Costa Rica.

Really enjoyed this tree house. Ben was a great host! He was very responsive to our questions and had great tips for what to do in the area. The actual house comfortably slept the four of us and had ample room for us to lounge and enjoy the weather. I had a great time traveling in Costa Rica, and this location was my favorite!

Great time in Avellanas!

Stayed here with 3 others and found the location to be very accommodating. The location fit our needs with respect to private parking, security, and location to the beach. We were also able to cook meals in the kitchen which added to the convenience. Avellanas is a great beach town and the beach was a short walk away. It was nice lounging around in the hammock and enjoying the scenery. I would gladly go back.

Amazing Stay Beautiful Surroundings

The hammocks were so nice and relaxing. There was even monkeys and parrots in the yard. The beach was magnificent and we really had a great time. I canā€™t say enough nice things. Ben was such a great host. We will be back!

A wonderful jungle/beach adventure!

Ben met us and welcomed us and showed us around. He gave us great ideas for meals and beach activities, even bringing us a boogie board. Howler monkeys all around in the trees. Two charming cats welcomed us too. The treehouse is a bit rustic but truly a great Costa Rican experience! Our host Ben even joined us for breakfast at the local restaurant. Loved getting to know him!! The mangrove walk to the beach is magical just after sunset and Lolaā€™s restaurante on the beach was a great hangout place with a fun vibe and great food! Highly recommend for the adventurous souls!

Fun Tree House Property

This house was a lot of fun and in a good location that is close to a beautiful beach. Ben was an amazing host. He checked up on us, gave us excellent recommendations on things to do and places to eat, gave us access to the beautiful boardwalk accessing the beach, and most of all was extremely nice. The house is a fun Costa Rican house also. It has two levels and had hammocks outside. There is also a small loft on a third level. The house is located inside a locked gate, which is nice for security. We appreciated the stay.

Fred flinstone accomodations

Poor condition of floor, kitchen, bathroom, bedding, moldy a/c, doors, overall dissatisfaction wud be an understatement...our driver/friend would not go inside...we intend ask for partial refund...only stayed 2 out of 3 days...if we had an option of relocating, we wud have in a new york minute...we renamed it the Fred Flintsone house....marketing photos not accurate at all, same w reviews- no way 5 stars which were the reviews...we did not want to spend any time there....sorry but true...2 starving cats in yard that we fed, no coffee filters to even start the visit...we left some for next unfortunate guest...really felt cheated...bath faucet sprays you with water...poor shower... We can't figure out how they clean anything. Because the interior of the bathroom walls were a heavy stone, and showed real wear...sorry but true, all of this...we are not picky travellers, but this was the bottom of the barrel...we never really unpacked

Wonderful host!!

We really loved our stay at the treehouse, and Ben was a wonderful host. It was a perfect place to have two small families stay on the same property but in separate houses. The beach wasnā€™t far and Ben was very helpful with recommendations of restaurants and also in setting up our airport transportation. We had a wonderful Christmas vacation!

Great Beach Getaway!

Me and a small group stayed at both places on Ben's property. The accommodations were nice for what I have experienced in Costa Rica. The property was a short walk to the beach and Ben's was a very responsive host!

A Rustic Wonderland!

The lodging is perfectly fine for a beach vacation, Ben makes the overall experience a 5+! We had a minor issue upon check in, which Ben remedied with sincere apologies. The beaches are beautiful and the upper level deck was a great hang out spot where we spent evenings reminiscing about our childhood. If you are looking for a beach vacation with the basics AND nature at its finest, the tree house is the place for you. Thank you Ben, Chachi and Yoko!

Month at the Tree House

Spent April at the tree house and had a wonderful time. Ben is a great host. Love the location and the peaceful vibe of the property. The property is rustic so don't expect luxury but it is very charming and comfortable. We really enjoyed the upstairs deck and chilled in the hammock often. The neighborhood is great. Love the beach and the local restaurants. if you are looking for a luxury experience this is not your place. If you are looking for an authentic local experience in a quiet community close to a beautiful beach, great waves, and some good restaurants this is for sure a gem. I found great relaxation and peace there. I will be back for sure. Thanks Ben!

Surf and chill at Avellana Beach

Great vibe!

We were spoiled with getting to see 10 howler monkeys in the tree outside the treehouse. Our main objective was to be at the beach as much as possible. We either walked or drove the short distance. Plenty of local food options between the house and beach. Felt close to nature with the sounds and sightings of birds, geckos, monkeys , iguanas and resident cats.

Laid back getaway

The host, Ben is kind & knowledgeable, super friendly, there when you need him, and respectful of your space. The location was perfect for us, walking distance to a couple small restaurants/bars, and another hotel area (Las Olas) with great staff/food. The walk to the beach (through Las Olas) is fabulous! There is also Lola's restaurant on the south end of the beach. Good surfing (Ben rents surfboards), swimming & sunsets. Recommend having a rental car to visit other North & South beaches for day trips. We rented an SUV which was great because the local roads are not paved. Go knowing you'll be staying in a place close to nature, lots of fun jungle noises (howler monkeys, birds, bugs etc) wifi, A/C, all worked great. Hammocks were comfy, and the upper porch is the best place to hangout. Friendly cats kept us company. Something to have in mind if it's windy, power can go out, it comes back on quickly. We happened to be there during an unseasonably windy week, but Ben was on top of it all. Honestly, we didn't even notice power was out, you can enjoy the outdoors without it. (Headlamps are nice to have, mostly for the walk on road at night). There are a couple places on the property, and a house he rents in front, on the way to the Treehouse. Once you're there it feels very private. Definitely worth the price. We didn't want to leave!

Perfect Costa Rica Beach getaway!

This was the perfect place for a week vacation. We have never been to Costa Rica and didn't really know what to expect. We were traveling with one teenager and two young adults and ourselves, and this property and location was perfect for our family. Short walk to the beach and the sunsets are amazing. The grounds were beautiful. We rented the home in the back of the property and it was perfect. Great kitchen two queen beds and a lovely rock bathroom downstairs and queen bedroom suite upstairs with an awesome deck with a hammock. Perfect for our family. We enjoyed our stay so much and Ben was so helpful securing tours for us and giving us great information on beaches, snorkeling and restaurants to visit. This was a great vacation for our family and we hope to visit again!
