Casa Bernardino commands a dramatic setting on a tuff rock terrace overlooking the Gulf of Naples in the sophisticated seaside town of Sorrento. It feels like you’ve stepped back in time at this atmospheric villa, which was built on the site of an ancient Roman home. Parts of this original building still remain, with features such as original walls and cave found on the ground floor.

The rooms over the two floors of Casa Bernardino are modern, bright and spacious. Neutral colours and whitewashed walls make every room calming and ideal for total relaxation. Enjoy meals in the stylish dining room, with a fireplace creating an even cosier feel on cooler evenings. Meanwhile, the arched balcony with a small table and chairs is perfect for unwinding on warm summer nights. The views over the garden and the sea only add to the sense of romance. A fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need for a comfortable stay, with the lounge being incredibly comfortable in itself. Sink back into one of the sofas or armchairs and chill out by watching movies on the flat screen television. Also take in the stunning sea views from the balcony terrace.

There are four beautiful double bedrooms, each with a walk-in wardrobe and air conditioning. Most feature a balcony or terrace for enjoying clear views over the Gulf, with the lower-level bedroom offering direct access to the lovely garden. Four luxurious bathrooms are spread across the two floors and boast a mix of luxurious facilities and rustic features, such as original stone walls.

The villa is set within an extensive plot, with a shape that’s designed to make the most of its elevated position overlooking the sea. Lush lawned areas are dotted with Mediterranean trees and plants for an idyllic feel. Within the gardens is an exercise area, with a solarium for relaxing. There’s even a heated hydro massage tub for pampering yourself. A charming pergola with dining table guarantees unforgettable meals with unbeatable views.

The terrace, with seating right at the bottom of the garden, is the perfect place for ending the night with drinks under the stars. You can also still take in the panoramic sea views long after the sun has gone down, under the glow of atmospheric lighting around the garden.

You’re surrounded by history at Casa Bernardino, with plenty more on the doorstep. Stroll into Sorrento old town and marvel at gorgeous architecture, such as the 14th-century church of Chiesa di San Francesco. Also go swimming in the sea and follow scenic trails along the rugged coastline. The famous site of Pompeii is just 45 minutes away by car, with breathtaking Mount Vesuvius and the Amalfi Coast both just over an hour’s drive.

Location:

Casa Bernardino enjoys a great location overlooking the Gulf and Naples, with views out to Mount Vesuvius. You can get even closer to beauty and tradition within minutes, as the heart of Sorrento town just a short walk away. The shore, old town and a variety of shops, restaurants, bars and cafés are all just a few hundred metres away from the villa. You’re also very close to Sorrento’s train station (500m) for reaching other popular spots such as Naples and Pompeii.

Stroll into the town for a day of sightseeing and soaking up Sorrento’s laidback atmosphere. The old town with its network of narrow streets is full of historical and cultural highlights, including Chiesa di San Francesco (400m), a beautiful 14th-century church. There’s also a bell tower, cathedral and monastery to visit. One of the most famous squares, Piazza Tasso (350m), is lined with cafes, so it’s ideal for a lunch break and doing some people watching. You could also head down to one of Sorrento’s marinas and enjoy a fresh seafood lunch at one of the many restaurants on offer.

The shore here (1km) is rocky, so platforms beneath the cliffs give you safe and easy access to the sea. Enjoy swimming in the clear, calm waters and taking in the naturally beautiful surroundings. Sorrento is also a great base for walking and hiking through the Lattari Mountains (17km), which lie close to the Sorrentine peninsula.

A must-visit is Pompeii (27km), where you can visit what was left of the city after the still-active volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted 2,000 years ago. This archaeological site features many well-preserved ruins to discover. You can reach Mount Vesuvius (48km) itself in just over an hour, with dramatic walks and views on offer.

A little further north of Mount Vesuvius is the gastronomic centre that is Naples (49km). Just over an hour’s drive away from the villa is the stunning Amalfi Coast (35km). Take your pick of the many sandy beaches that are perfect for an afternoon spent relaxing by the sea.
