A true 1970s original, just a four minute walk from a wide Pacific beach. Built in 1974 by sculptor Oscar W. Johnston, this cedar and glass home has a vaulted great room with ocean views and a retro cone fireplace, a second family room, four bedrooms, air conditioning, Starlink WiFi and a gear room stocked for beach days. Pets welcome.
The Space:
Ocean Treasures is a true 1970s original, a cedar and glass coastal home built in 1974 by sculptor Oscar W. Johnston and his wife Jean, and still cared for by their family. Step through the carved seahorse front door and you'll find sculpture, driftwood art and original 70s character throughout.
The heart of the home is the vaulted, cedar paneled great room upstairs, where floor to ceiling windows look across the coastal meadow to the Pacific. Gather around the retro cone fireplace, settle into the reading nook with a book from the lending library, or break out the board games and puzzles. Downstairs, a second family room with a stone fireplace and smart TV gives everyone room to spread out.
With four bedrooms and two full bathrooms, the home is made for family gatherings and reunions. The kitchen is fully equipped, the dining table seats eight, and a washer and dryer are on site. Air conditioning keeps the home comfortable, which is rare on this stretch of coast, and Starlink WiFi and a kitchen desk nook make it easy to stay connected.
Outside, relax in the Adirondack chairs, play cornhole on the lawn, or fire up the gas grill at the backyard patio table. The gear room is stocked with beach chairs and coolers for the four minute walk to the sand: down the driveway, carefully across Highway 101, through Clifford Kamph Memorial Park and down the steps to the beach. At low tide you can walk more than two miles north, right across the Oregon state line.
The house sits well back from the highway, and pets are welcome. A ramp leads from the driveway to the front door for step free entry; the upstairs great room is reached by stairs.
There is ample parking on site.
Guest Access:
You'll have the entire home to yourselves, including both living areas, the kitchen, laundry room, front and back yards, and the gear room stocked with beach chairs and coolers. A ramp leads from the paved driveway to the front door for step free entry; the upstairs great room is reached by stairs.
There is ample parking on site. Please do not park trailers or RVs over the septic tank; our team can show you where it is.
The Neighborhood:
Ocean Treasures sits on America's Wild Rivers Coast, between Crescent City, CA and Brookings, OR. Keep an eye out for Roosevelt elk grazing in the coastal meadows. Fall and winter bring great fishing on the Smith and Chetco rivers, and the old growth groves of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park are a short drive away. Spend your days golfing, browsing antique shops and boutiques, or exploring the coast, then enjoy fresh seafood at local restaurants.
Getting Around:
A car is needed to get here and explore the area. Ocean Treasures sits right on Highway 101 between Crescent City, CA and Brookings, OR. The nearest airport with commercial service is Del Norte County Regional Airport in Crescent City.
The beach is a four minute walk from the front door, across Highway 101. Please use care crossing the highway, especially with children and pets.
Other Things to Note:
