Garden Level Home 2 Short Blocks to Forsyth Park by Lucky Savannah

This charming, one-bedroom, one-bath ground level apartment dates back to the 1860s. Comfortable furnishings with a traditional flair will have you “living like a local” on the Historic District’s famous Gaston Street. Located just a block away from beautiful Forsyth Park, this oversized apartment is the perfect retreat for two Lucky guests.

You’ll step down into your vacation home and enter in the bright foyer, with a large, decorative fireplace and beautiful desk allowing the space to double as an office. Straight ahead is the fully equipped kitchen, so you can enjoy breakfast from the comfort of your home-away-from-home. The dining area is open to the large living area, which has lots of natural light, a comfortable couch, two leather chairs, and a large flat-screen TV.

The bedroom has a king bed, TV, and lots of closet space so you can settle in during your stay. The bathroom has a shower/tub combo, pedestal sink, and a lovely vanity where you can get ready for a night out on the town.

  • Designed by John S. Norris for General Hugh Weedon Mercer, construction of the house began in 1860. Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1868 by the new owner, John Wilder. Before Hansford's death, as retold in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the house had already been the scene of two deaths. In 1913, a previous owner tripped over the second floor banister, fractured his hip, and suffered a concussion, dying three days later. In 1964, a boy chasing pigeons on the roof fell over the edge and impaled himself on the iron fence below.

Very easy to navigate arrival. Apartment was extremely comfortable and clean. Wonderful location. Another excellent stay w Lucky Savannah! Only issue was w the TVs - the resolution on living room TV was poor and the TV in the bedroom did not have a good connection to the internet so all the programs kept buffering.

Quiet, clean, lovely place. I had to make reservations within a 10-minute time frame as my mother-in-law passed away unexpectedly. This beautiful garden-home was so much better than a hotel. Gave my husband and I some much needed quiet time everything we had to deal with during the week. Will definitely stay here again

We anticipated the apartment looking like what the Lucky Savannah website portrayed instead of what we found when we arrived.If you go back and look at the pictures on the website, they have photoshopped them portraying the apt. as being very bright, airy, and fresh.I would ask that a manager or whoever screens the properties from Lucky Savannah on Liberty Street,as you view those pictures you do so while walking through the apt. and you will see a very different picture.The lighting throughout is very dim.We suggest since the lamps all seem to be 3-way, that you use 3-way bulbs to improve the lighting.The plantings outside around the living room, while beautiful, do not allow any bright sunlight which is what you see in the photos.Please look at the tile on the floor as you enter at the bathroom door. It appears to be missed when housekeeping cleans as well as the vanity countertop and the baseboards throughout the apt. The Swiffer isn’t doing a thorough cleaning job. If you open the door to the laundry area, the mold smell is overwhelming.Outside the front door area needs a much brighter light to not only allow you to see the keypad better, but also to be more inviting.That area also is mosquito heaven bc of moisture retention which also causes mold buildup. The sitting area under the deck could be more welcoming if it were cleaned and arranged. There were chairs in front yard but you couldn’t sit in them bc they were under shrubbery in flower beds. Extremely disappointed.

Amazing Location

Our stay at the VRBO in Savannah was a mixed experience. Let's start with the positives: you couldn't ask for a better location. The space was generously sized, perfect for two people, with a full living room and a separate bedroom featuring a very comfortable king-sized bed. The kitchen was ample and well-equipped for cooking, which we enjoyed during our stay.However, upon entering, we were greeted by a musty smell that resembled rotten fruit. Concerned about my asthma, I contacted the property management right away. To their credit, they responded promptly, providing us with a dehumidifier and a standing fan to improve air circulation. Despite emptying the dehumidifier three times a day, the musty smell persisted. It seems Savannah's recent heavy rains had caused moisture issues, including a soaking wet rug near the entryway, which was promptly removed by the property management.There was also a minor issue with water seeping through the grout lines in the floors, which was a bit concerning. Despite these challenges, we managed to tolerate the smell without triggering any asthma symptoms, thankfully.In conclusion, while the location and spaciousness of the VRBO were excellent, the persistent musty smell due to moisture issues detracted from an otherwise enjoyable stay. With some attention to these maintenance issues, this could be a fantastic place to stay in Savannah.p,s, is the space under the stairs outside / for guests to use? We were never clear.

Enchanting 1800’s underground flat

We loved it. Perfect location. Beautifully appointed and decorated. The bed is really comfortable and cozy. It has everything we needed. Special plus was the court yard in the back between the houses.

Pretty and convenient but needs a little help.

I’m not sure if it was a housekeeping issue or if amenities have changed, but there were no wash clothes, dish towels, pot holders or facial tissues. One hand towel, one floor mat but we did get 4 towels for the two of us. The toilet was running and water was flowing out. Once we realized that the last person who flushed before we got there forgot to reset the handle, we cleaned up the water and didn’t call because there wasn’t a leak. The mechanism sticks when you flush and must be reset after every flush. Our last morning here the shower curtain crashed down and couldn’t be rehung. We did call about that before we left to make sure it was noted.

Exceeded Expectations

The property is in excellent location, adjacent to Forsyth Park, and in easy walking distance to everything. I loved that the property had a separate dining room/sitting area and full kitchen. I felt more like an apartment or small cottage. I loved it and I would rent it again and/or recommend to all.

Coordinate with others in building regarding washing machine usage

I travel for a living and have high tolerances for things being nonstandard; therefore I rarely write negative reviews. This is not a negative review but I need to bring it to your attention. On 2 of the 3 nights of my stay someone else in the house used the washer and dryer between 10pm and midnight. a loud buzzer went off no less than 5 times at 3 to 5 minute intervals each night. the machines are against the bathroom and bedroom walls and it sounds as if it is in the apartment. I did reach out to the management company the first night and they responded promptly, but the same scenario played out the next night. I stay in enough VRBO properties to know that if others experience what I did, you will have a problem with this property if you don't reach out to the other occupants of this building to rectify the situation.

Location location location! This place is ideally situated to see a lot of Savannah. Such a walkable city and we had a great time. Lucky Savannah was responsive to everything. We discovered a broken window in the bedroom that someone had not reported and they came right over to do a temporary repair.

This is an awesome property, just as pictured. The history alone! We we lucky enough to be there for the Veterans Day parade, right outside our apt. Comfortable, clean and a fantastic location.

Lovely apartment

The location was wonderful, the apartment was perfect for our needs and such a cute space. Super clean, had everything you needed. You could walk or Lyft everywhere you needed to go. It was so neat to stay in older house with an older feel but modern touches. We loved our first trip to Savannah and would stay in this apartment again!
