  • Designed by John S. Norris for General Hugh Weedon Mercer, construction of the house began in 1860. Construction was interrupted by the American Civil War, and finally completed around 1868 by the new owner, John Wilder. Before Hansford's death, as retold in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the house had already been the scene of two deaths. In 1913, a previous owner tripped over the second floor banister, fractured his hip, and suffered a concussion, dying three days later. In 1964, a boy chasing pigeons on the roof fell over the edge and impaled himself on the iron fence below.

Great space and a terrific location! The space was as described- plenty of room for our family. The location is terrific, plus you get your own parking space (not guaranteed in many Savannah rentals). We’ve gone to Savannah each year for the last four years, and I think we’ve found a place we’d all like to stay at again. Highly recommend!

Condo was perfect and the location was perfect. Allowed us to check in early because of an early flight which allowed us to begin our adventure in Savannah without a hitch! Two things of note; there is not a full length mirror or a lower mirror for short people (I’m 4’ 8”) so I had a difficult time getting ready, and we found a large (thankfully) dead palmetto bug in one of the bedrooms. We will definitely come back here to the city and this condo!!

Very comfortable apartment in a convenient location to bus for River st downtown. Parking is a huge plus!Only negative is the stairs to reach unit. The pictures shows stairs in unit. However no mention is made of the fact unit A is on the second level with two flights of stairs to go up to get into apartment. However, I would stay again.

This was our first visit to Savannah, and we stayed for five nights. When we booked this condo, we hoped we had chosen a good spot. Turns out, we selected the absolute BEST location. The condo is right across the street from beautiful Forsyth Park. It is a quiet, historic area with beautiful homes all around and gorgeous oak trees covered in Spanish moss. We spent most of our visit exploring historic Savannah on foot. Although there is free transportation, we didn’t find it necessary to use it. It is an easy, scenic walk to everywhere you want to visit in historic Savannah. The parking space provided is easy to access at all hours, and we did drive to a few historic sites (Bonaventure and Wormsloe) during our stay. The condo is spacious and clean. Kitchen had everything needed to prepare full meals (we prepared breakfast and several dinners at the condo). The condo is also very close to all the best restaurants. We recommend Collin’s Quarter in Forsyth Park for brunch/lunch and Local11Ten for dinner. We would definitely stay at this condo again and would recommend to friends and family.

Great unit with a designated parking spot (worth a lot in a town that only has “pay to park” everywhere)! Clean, cozy and just as described. Kitchen is fully stocked and the beds are very comfy. We were visiting our SCAD student and she came to stay with us for the weekend. She did laundry, we cooked a family dinner and cozied up on the couch to watch a movie. Enjoyed the quick 25 minute drive to Tybee Island for a dip in the ocean and loved being in the center of town and walking distance to everything. A great home away from home. We will certainly be staying here again! The owner, Braxton, was so nice, communicative and super helpful when we wanted to book an extra night. Highly recommend!

Wonderful condo

This condo was wonderful. Very clean, beds were very comfortable and it was in a great location right by Forsyth Park. We walked to almost everything we wanted to see and visit. The host was very quick to respond. We will definitely stay here again.

Check in smooth, parking was great. Location to park was perfect although the day we arrive the fountain was being removed which was a bummer seeing how that was partly why we chose to stay nearby. Condo plenty big enough for four but lacked an outdoor seating presence, toiletries cleaning supplies. Bathroom were extremely tight and no mirrors past your shoulders.

Beautiful stay in Savannah

This property is in a beautiful area right beside Forsyth Park. It is about a 20 min walk down to the river, so the location is great if you’re up for walking! The streets are beautiful, and the neighbors were friendly! The house was very clean and the host was very responsive! It was great to have off street parking also. I’d definitely stay here again!

This is our second time staying at this property. The location cannot be beat! If you like to hang out in the downtown area of Savannah, this is an amazing location! It is right next to Forsyth Park and easy walking distance to everything downtown. One of the best features of this Vrbo is that you have one free parking space on the property - you don't have to worry about parking meters, parking garages, etc. We didn't spend much time in the Vrbo itself, other than sleeping and getting ready. However, if you got stuck inside due to rain or just wanted to relax, you have everything you need - TV, Wi-Fi, a well equipped kitchen, and a washer/dryer. The beds are very comfy. It is really quiet - no downtown noise, sirens, etc., that we have experienced at some of the area hotels. We slept well. We didn't hear any of the neighbors. The unit is upstairs, but that didn't pose any issues for us. There is both a front and a back entrance, so you can park in the back and bring your things up the back stairs (after you unlock the door from the inside - meaning you have to initially enter the unit from the front door). The host, Braxton, was very responsive to any message that I sent. We visit Savannah often and we will definitely stay here again if it's available!
