The Park town is a great hotel with a beautiful view of the river.
There are, however, some concerns that travellers should be aware of:
1.the property is getting old and there are issues that arise. On this stay our fridge had died sometime before our arrival and when we opened it a substantial amount of water poured out. There are additional sign of wear and tear sink didn’t drain properly,, frayed carpet etc). None of these individually are the end of the world but the fridge proved a bigger issue as our stay continued.
2. No air conditioning. This happened on our last stay at the Parktown as well , I should have remembered…. It has something to do with seasonal HVAC systems(??). In the spring there is no AC. On a warmer day, as ours was, the temp gets high in the upper floors. We adjusted our room thermostat to 18, but the temp rose to just under 25 and stayed there. Add in the fact the fridge couldn’t cool water to drink and the temp led to very little sleep.
3. River walk in the evening was sketchy. It’s about 4 block to the downtown / restaurant area. The riverfront area is definitely facing some challenges, and to have access to these amenities without needing to add in a walk may be a decision to consider.
As I said in the open, I like the Parktown. It has been my go to hotel in Saskatoon for as long as I can remember, I just think that time is catching up to the place, and there is stuff completion just a few blocks (in the right direction) away.
