My parents stayed in this condo for 3 months & really enjoyed the home. We treated the property with the utmost care, even revitalizing the struggling backyard rose bushes & lemon tree—sharing photos with the host, which she appreciated. To ensure a seamless departure, we paid for an extra night solely so we could complete the 6-hour round-trip drive to take my parents home & return the next morning strictly to leave the condo spotless.Unfortunately, checkout tarnished an otherwise nice stay. The original checkout instructions posted directly on VRBO by the host listed standard tasks: stripping beds, gathering towels, loading the dishwasher, & taking out trash—which aligned with the high upfront cleaning fee. However, two days before checkout, the host sent a message stating we fully wash & dry all linens, towels & cleaning rags before an 11:00 AM departure.We messaged back explaining that running multiple laundry cycles before 11:00 AM wasn't feasible. While the host acknowledged the condo was left in wonderful condition, she insisted on her unlisted requirements, claimed VRBO prevents hosts from updating listing rules & mentioned potential extra laundry fees.After reporting this, VRBO confirmed hosts set their own listing rules, that we fully followed her posted checkout instructions & no extra fees apply. Disappointing at best: after leaving the home immaculate, we faced unlisted demands and insults—being called "belligerent and rude" for following the contract.
