  • World War 1 army barrack, ingeniously transformed into welcoming and comfortable accommodation, Whitby close by with its abbey and harbour.. All on the Ground Floor:

    Open plan living space.

    Bedroom 1: Double (4ft 6in) Bed Ensuite: Bath, Cubicle Shower, Toilet

    Bedroom 2: 2 x Single (3ft) Beds Ensuite: Bath With Shower Over, Toilet

    Bedroom 3: 2 x Single (3ft) Beds Ensuite: Cubicle Shower, Toilet

    Separate Toilet.. Electricity included. Large decked area and seating. Wheelchair access.. All properties: Gas central heating, gas and bed linen included. Towel hire. Cot and highchair available on request. Spacious grounds. Ample parking. No smoking. Please note: No stag, hen or other party bookings allowed.. Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army barracks are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.

    Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.



    Please note: As the four lodges are in close proximity to one another, they could be booked for groups of up to 24 guests. Additional en-suite rooms available on site, on request with owner.. In Staithes, near Whitby there is the Life Boat weekend in August and the Arts and Heritage Festival in September.



    Baby bath and socket protectors available on request. There is a car number plate recognistion system in place, please advise the owner of your car number plate in advance of your stay. Bike parking racks available for bikes, cover can be provided on request.

    Towels can be provided upon request for pets. Please call to request this or let the owner know when you contact them to arrange key collection. Please ensure the owner is aware you would like these before arrival at the property.

The location is superb.

The location is superb. Staithes is the quaintest little fishing village you could hope to find.The property was easy to find and picking up the key was easy. The property is quite basic but it wasn't expensive so was more or less what we expected. The view from the decking was great if you can ignore the monstrosity of the mine which is most definitely a blot on the landscape. The cottage was fairly clean, unfortunately the cleaners don't look up. Most corners, the lampshades, and the fireplace nook were quite webby. The kitchen area is well stocked with a full size gas cooker and a nice big 'fridge/freezer. No washing machine though. The 3 bedrooms are all en suite, which was excellent. We did feel they would have benefitted from some strategically placed grab rails though. One of our party was a wheelchair user and she didn't feel safe in the bathroom. All in all we had a great week and Bosun's Rest was a really good place to be based for getting out and about.
