Just an hour from NYC, this cozy two-bedroom cottage is designed for slow mornings, peaceful afternoons by the lake, and evenings spent unwinding on the private deck overlooking the trees. Whether you’re here to paddle, hike, read, or simply reset, The Putnam Cottage offers a calm, grounded escape that feels both special and effortless.

Parking is available for up to two vehicles onsite. Just a short 7-minute stroll or a quick 2-minute drive brings you to the serene lakefront — perfect for a peaceful paddle, an afternoon picnic, a refreshing swim, or quiet moments with a book in hand. To use the provided paddle boards, guests will need to walk or drive them down to the water. However you choose to explore, you’ll find the natural beauty of Putnam Valley both grounding and rejuvenating.

★ THE NEIGHBORHOOD ★

Our home is nestled in the charming neighborhood of Abele Park, located on the serene shores of Lake Oscawana. This peaceful community is a blend of year-round residents and summer homes, offering a quiet retreat just moments away from the water.

Rich in history, Abele Park has roots that date back to the early 1900s, when it was a vibrant tourist destination for both locals and New York City visitors. The area once boasted hotels, casinos, social halls, and even speakeasies—attracting many, including the legendary Babe Ruth. Today, Abele Park remains a peaceful hideaway where visitors can slow down, reconnect with nature, and savor simple moments by the water.

The closest MetroNorth train stations are Peekskill and Cold Spring. Both trains are on the Hudson line and will take you into Grand Central Station NYC in about 80-90 minutes. They are both about 20 minutes from the property.

★ RENTAL CONTRACT ★

We have disclosed the terms of our Rental Contract in the Additional Rules section of the House Rules. This contract includes house rules, liability regarding on site activities, and fees for breaking rules. By booking this property you acknowledge that you have read, understand and agree to be bound by all terms, conditions, and policies in the Rental Contract.

★ DAMAGE PROTECTION ★

Instead of a security deposit, your stay includes a damage protection waiver, covering up to $2,000 in accidental damage during your visit. Please note that this applies only to accidental damage. Any intentional damage or violations of house rules will be charged to you in accordance with our rental agreement. Full details of the coverage will be shared after your booking is confirmed.

★ DOG GUIDELINES ★

We’re happy to welcome one well-behaved dog for a one-time $150 pet fee! Please review our simple guidelines to ensure a great stay for all:

✔ Dogs must be over 1 year old, under 50 lbs, housebroken, and leash trained
✔ No excessive barking or heavy shedding breeds
✔ The yard is not fenced—dogs must always be leashed outdoors
✔ Please clean up after your pet and dispose of waste in outdoor bins
✔ Any damage will be charged to the guest per our rental agreement
✔ Please note dogs are not allowed in Lake Oscawana per town rules, and they must be leashed while at the lake park.

★ CHECK-OUT INSTRUCTIONS ★

Below are the check-out instructions we request at the end of each stay:

Please note we do not permit any Airbnb services or experiences on this property, including third-party bookings made through the Airbnb Experiences and Airbnb Services platforms.

Any guest who attempts to host or bring an Airbnb-related Service or Experience onto the premises without our prior written approval will have their reservation cancelled immediately, with no refund issues.

★ ADDITIONAL NOTES ★

✔ You must be 25 or older to rent this home
✔ Use of wood burning stove is not allowed, and we do not allow open flames indoors.
✔ While there may be some leftover charcoal at the property, we do require guests to provide their own charcoal for use in the grill.
✔ Please note you're staying in a rural area, which means nature is all around! While we keep our homes well-maintained, it's not uncommon to cross paths with the occasional insect indoors or out.
✔ Use of paddleboards, life jackets, and any water activities are at your own risk. We are not liable for any of these activities. Please exercise caution when transporting paddleboards to and from the lake.
✔ Your safety matters. The property has a front doorbell camera and exterior back door camera. These cameras are activated upon motion and record video and audio. They do not look into any interior spaces.
✔ Please be aware we do not list the property as toddler or baby safe. While we work to create a safe space for all ages, be sure to watch children carefully at all times, especially near the fireplace and staircases.
✔ From time to time, routine services such as landscaping, trash removal or pest control may require access to the exterior of the property. We do our best to schedule these visits to minimize any disruption, but we appreciate your understanding if they overlap with your stay.
✔ In the winter months, snow removal is scheduled as promptly as possible following snowfall, subject to vendor availability. Specific timing cannot be guaranteed. Guests are advised to exercise caution and be mindful of slippery conditions during winter weather.
