Serbota Retreat Parklike Garden & Mountain Creek

Nestled at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains in the Transylvanian village of Porumbacu de Sus, Serbota Retreat is a refined countryside escape designed for slow gatherings, family stays and private retreats.

Surrounded by a parklike garden crossed by a mountain creek, the property combines the warmth of an old Transylvanian retreat house with generous outdoor spaces, mature trees, pond with koi and domestic fish, firelit evenings and views toward the Negoiu-Serbota massif.

Originally built in 1890 by Austrian craftsmen who came to work at the historic glasswork of Porumbacu de Sus, Serbota Retreat preserves the warmth and authenticity of an old Transylvanian countryside home, with wooden interiors, traditional glazed tile stove and the atmosphere of a refined countryside retreat designed for spending meaningful time together.

The retreat is ideal for families and groups of friends looking for privacy and nature. Guests have exclusive access to the entire property, including spacious outdoor areas, barbecue and firepit place.

The main house is arranged over two levels and combines the warmth of a traditional Transylvanian countryside home with generous gathering spaces.
On the ground floor, guests are welcomed by a spacious 40 sqm living room with library corner and small workplace, creating a relaxed atmosphere for reading, conversation or quiet evenings indoors. A smaller 14 sqm bedroom with queen size bed and an adjacent 8 sqm bathroom are also located on this level.
The 20 sqm kitchen preserves the authentic atmosphere of the house with it's teracotta stove and dinind area for 8-10 guests. Fully equipped for family stays and longer visits, the kitchen includes stove and oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer, coffee machine, kettle and toaster.

Large panoramic windows open the kitchen toward the garden and the flowing mountain creek, filling the space with natural light and views of the surrounding throughout the day.
From the kitchen, guests step directly onto a terrace of approximately 20 sqm, where the mountain creek flows alongside the house, before croosing over a wooden bridge into the garden.

Upstairs, the retreat offers three additional bedrooms:
-a spacious 30 sqm master bedroom with king size bed, TV, private bathroom with shower and balcony facing mountains;
- a 16 sqm bedroom with king size bed, TV, private bathroom and balcony overlooking the garden:
- a third 16sqm bedroom with king size bed, garden-facing balcony and separate bathroom of 6 sqm accessed from the hallway.
The upper floor also includes a kitchenette with dining area for 4 guests, sink, refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, coffee maker and kettle, offering additional comfort and flexibility for families or groups staying upstairs.
Throughout the house, hand painted furniture, natural textures and garden views preserve the calm and intimate atmosphere.

Outdoor living is an essential part of the Serbota Retreat experience. The main house is surrounded by aprox. 1800 sqm of private garden space designed for relaxation and time spent close to nature.
A mountain creek flows naturally through the garden, crossed by small bridges and bordered by mature trees, ornamental shrubs and open green spaces. The garden is fully enclosed by traditional walls, while a natural line of tall trees along it preserves privacy and the quiet atmosphere of the retreat.
Carefully arranged outdoor lounge areas, garden furniture and subtle evening lighting create a warm and intimatecountryside atmosphere theoughout the property. Guests can enjoy a pond with fishes, a swing, shaded seating corners, firepit gatherings and barbecue on the terrace.
During the summer season, the retreat also offers a recreational outdoor pool, while children have acces to their own playhouse and generous open spaces for outdoor activities.
Additional outdoor amenities include table tennis, private parking for up to three cars inside the property and multiple quiet corners designed for reading, conversation and peaceful moments.
Regarding the surroundings, Serbota Retreat offers easy access to some of Romania's most beautiful mountain landscapes, hiking routes and countryside experiences.
The village is one of the traditional starting points for hiking trails toward Negoiu Peak (2535 m altitude) and the main Fagaras Mountain ridge, From the retreat, guests can follow the forest road along the Porumbacu Valley for approximately 10 km through forests and wild nature to the beginning of the marked mountain trail leading toward Negoiu Chalet, Serbota Waterfall and the high ridge of the Fagaras Mountains. Transport by car can also be arranged for guests to reachthe upper forest road and trail access area more easily.
The famous Transfagarasan Road with spectacular scenery is located approximate 25 km away, while Balea Lake can be reached in about 48 km.
The medieval city of Sibiu and it's international airport are located approximately 45 km from the retreat, offering convenient access for both Romanian and international guests.

Practical information
Serbota Retreat is rented exclusively to one group at a time, ensuring privacy, comfort and a relaxed atmosphere theoughout the entire property.
The retreat is easily accessible by fully paved road and offers private parking up to three cars inside the property. Guests are personally welcomed by the property administrator, who provides check-in assistance and hands over the keys upon arrival.
The house benefits from central heating and high-speed fiber optic WiFi, making the retreat comfortable in all seasons, including autumn and winter stays.
During the summer season (20 June to 31 August) guests can also enjoy a seasonal outdoor pool with a diameter of 4.5 meters and a depth of 1.2 meters.
Small and medium sized pets, well educated, are welcome upon prior request and for an additional cleaning fee.
