Winter Court makes its case from the driveway. Steep cedar rooflines and sharp angles rise out of the trees, giving the house more of an architect's signature than you'd expect from a Poconos getaway. Inside, it relaxes. Three stories and 3,800 square feet give a big group plenty of room, and walls of windows keep the woods in view from almost everywhere you stand.

The living room anchors the main floor, with plush sofas gathered around the fireplace and natural textures that make it feel comfortable rather than staged. It flows right into the kitchen, where barstools at the island give someone a seat to keep the cook company and there's room for a second person at the stove. First coffee usually happens here while half the house is still asleep. The dining table fits everyone, whether it's pancakes at nine or a dinner that runs long past dessert. Just off the main room, a glass-walled sunroom is the quiet corner for a book when the rest of the house gets loud.

The lower level is built for staying up late. A second fireplace, oversized sofas, and an 85-inch smart TV make it the obvious spot for movie night or the big game, and the air hockey table gets competitive fast. It's usually where the last few people are still talking at midnight.

The sleeping arrangements make this an easy pick for families traveling together. The primary suite has the home's only king bed and a private ensuite bath. Right next to Camelback, Big Pocono State Park has hiking trails and a summit view that reaches into New Jersey and New York on a clear day. Hickory Run's boulder field and the lake beach at Tobyhanna State Park make good warm-weather outings, and Pocono Premium Outlets in Tannersville is there for the afternoon someone insists on shopping.

Winter Court works just as well for a February ski trip as it does for a July family reunion, and there's enough space that nobody gets stuck with the leftover bed.
