The space
And… relax. The Dory is a cozy, thoughtfully designed retreat where New England heritage and modern comfort meet the quiet creativity of its past life. Built in the 1800s and once an artist’s studio, the cottage still carries a gentle, soulful character. The name “The Dory” nods to the small, sturdy wooden boats long tied to New England’s coastal heritage. Lightweight and steady, dories were rowed through quiet coves and river inlets, symbols of simple journeys, independence, and life lived close to the water. It suits the cottage perfectly: compact, serene, intentionally crafted, and a place to drift into an unhurried coastal rhythm.


Inside The Dory
Step into the bedroom, where a queen Casper mattress with Brooklinen linens creates a warm and restful place to begin and end each day. Just beyond, the living area offers a cozy space to unwind, settle in with seating for two-four, enjoy a movie night on the Samsung Frame TV, or pull out one of the games we provide on a rainy afternoon. Mini-split heating and AC make the cottage comfortable in every season, from summer beach days to crisp autumn weekends.

The well-stocked kitchenette features an apartment-sized stove and small refrigerator, perfect for easy mornings or simple dinners at home. Note there is no dishwasher. Curated antiques and collected pieces give the cottage its New England charm, while modern amenities keep everything effortless and relaxing.

As with many historic cottages, The Dory comes with a few thoughtful quirks. The shower sits just outside the bathroom, offering a nod to the home’s long and layered history. Storage is limited to a small lofted area best for bags or lighter items. And because of the original layout, you’ll enter through the bedroom, a unique detail that adds to the cottage’s character and cozy scale.

Coming this spring (late April 2026): Outside, your private seashell patio feels like a coastal nook of its own, perfect for morning coffee, a fresh seafood dinner at the bistro table, slow evenings by the firepit, or a refreshing rinse in the open-air outdoor shower. ****Please note: While the interior is fully renovated and complete, our patio is still being finished. The outdoor space is clean and usable, but it won’t be fully furnished until spring. You’re welcome to enjoy the space as-is (it is tidy and safe), please just be patient with our work in progress. :) ****

The Neighborhood
From The Dory, Plymouth opens up around you. Plymouth Long Beach is a 10 walk away for sunrise strolls, big tides, and wide ocean views. Please note sidewalk is intermittent – please walk with care. Plimoth Patuxet is also a short walk down the road for an immersive historic experience (or event!). Downtown Plymouth and the harbor, with its restaurants, cafés, breweries, boutiques, and waterfront paths are a short 5 minute drive away. For time in nature, head to Myles Standish State Forest (10 min drive) or walk to Manomet Hill or the Pinehills MTB for hiking and mountain biking. The famed Mirbeau Spa is also a short 10 minute drive away, along with the Pinehills amenities.

Chiltonville brings its own sense of place: winding coastal roads, cranberry bogs, river inlets, farmland, and a feeling of “classic New England by the sea.” It’s a peaceful, lived-in neighborhood where mornings begin with soft coastal light and evenings settle into quiet breezes. The Dory has peekaboo views of the Eel River just beyond our main home.

Guest access
Guests have full access to the cottage and the private seashell patio. Entry is through a secure keypad, so you can check in at your convenience.

Other things to note
The cottage sits on our property close to our main home. Because of this, our main home is visible, similar to a traditional guest-house setup. Your space, including the cottage, driveway, separate entrance, and patio, is entirely private to you. A fence separates The Dory and our home. We or other guests may be around during your stay, but you’ll always have your own corner of the property to enjoy.
