Amazing views
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Castillo. The terrace had an amazing view of Arenal volcano, and we saw so many birds in the backyard. It was amazing to have coffee in morning and watch clouds roll through valley and listen to birdsong. The location is convenient for getting to Fortuna and nearby parks for hiking, but Castillo feels much more quaint and quiet for enjoying peaceful evenings. We cooked in kitchen and had everything we needed to prepare meals. We also loved Ventanita restaurant up the hill from this location.

Beautiful old Costa Rica
If you are looking for an escape to old Costa Rica with an amazing viewing platform of Arenal volcano, this is your spot. The village of El Castillo is quaint and 2 great restaurants are walking distance from the property. Augustin was great to work with, but Vrbo has a weird quirk that doesn't give you a confirmation of your reservation. Check directly with Augustin the manager of the property.

Wonderful four-night stay
Unique and comfortable home with lovely backyard views. The check-in and check-out processes were easy and fast. The center offered many suggestions for activities in the area which was greatly appreciated. We loved the local restaurants and the excellent bakery that was just down the road.

Loved our stay!
This place was amazing! About a 30 min drive to most of the excursions that we did. Agustin was a great host and provided us with some great excursion and restaurant recommendations. Would love to come back! ❤️

Great view, substandard house
No hot water. Lumpy sorry excuse for a couch, rooster next door starts at 3:30 and goes to 6:30. Guide book leaves of great special places uphill. Guidebook is out of date with prices and has no contact info for recommendations. No laundry detergent. Why make us by new package whe we want to do one ore two loads.? lol ace a fe detergent pillows. The town is full of money grabbers. nOT recommended.

Miss Back patio and welcome center already!
This property is off the beaten path in charming El Castillo which we enjoyed. Need 4W drive. Family of 5 very much enjoyed the back patio/hammock...so many birds, hummingbirds, Arenal view, and flowers. The welcome center folks are OUTSTANDING and helped us with recommendations of where to shop and amazing tours. 1 bed creaky but comfortable.

Setting, setting, setting
The view is spectacular - I loved sitting on the deck every morning to enjoy it with a cup of coffee. The house is as described. There are some bugs and a gecko, but when you see the setting, it makes sense and using chemicals would hurt the beautiful surroundings. Beds were very comfortable. You will hear roosters every morning and sometimes the day. They belong to the neighbor and you just have to get used to it. I was aware and just dealt with it. If you have the air-conditioner on in the bedrooms it is not as loud. Every morning we opened up the doors and windows and let the wonderful breeze come through to air out the house and cool it down (might be why we had bugs!). Totally worth it. The cool mountain air is fresh and invigorating. We closed up if leaving or once the sun started to go down. I didn't get one mosquito bite! FYI Costa Rican roads are DIFFICULT. Be ready to drive some harrowing roads. This home is in a great area with some great restaurants and tours available, but there are big hills. I had a sprained ankle so we drove, but if I had been healthy we would have got some good cardio in. If you have food allergies, there is a restaurant called Essence up the road that will accommodate it all. The hostess is always there and remembers what you told her. Cocoa tour was fun. Fantastic bakery down the road - stores, restaurants as well. La Fortuna nearby (20min). Host was just down the road and was responsive and very nice. We really enjoyed staying here!

Great location
Loved watching the birds in the morning on the balcony with a cup of coffee! So much to do within an hour's drive. I wish we had more time to check it all out. Easy to communicate with property manager and to check in/out. Recommend getting groceries from far away as most of the close stores have only the basics.

Wonderful stay.
We stayed here in July of 2023. Everything was great. Check in was super convenient and friendly. This is a really gorgeous area with a ton to explore. I would 100% book this location again. (Family of 4.)

Awesome views and charm
We really enjoyed our stay but it wasn't very clean when we arrived. The cottage was very cozy (very charming) and the view from the covered deck was spectacular with lots of birds. The people at the welcome center were extremely friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient to Arenal and La Fortuna. There was more to do than we could do in our short stay. On another note, the second nite when we returned, we found termites coming out of the walls in the shower. Lots of them. This place needs a thorough inspection and treatment or it will be sawdust.

THE VIEW!
Holy cow - the view from this place is priceless! There is also a bakery that you can walk to down the hill each morning and an amazing restaurant up the hill that we would go to at night. It's about a 30 min drive into La Fortuna for activities which isn't bad at all. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

A quiet gem
The house is located in El Castillo and not in La Fortuna which was fantastic. It is a smaller, quieter community yet still a short distance from La Fortuna. The house is beautiful with nice woodwork. The management staff were wonderful and responsive to questions. It is in walking distance to a couple of places to eat, a small store and most important, a bakery. The house was clean, spacious and had everything you need. It has a deck in the back (pictured) where you can spend hours looking at Lake Arenal, the volcano and an amazing amount of birds passing by the property. In our 3 week trip, we spent less time here than in other places and that was a HUGE mistake. There is much to do in the area. We most certainly would rent this VRBO again.

Winter get away
Property was lovely. Agustin was amazing to work with and he made all our reservations which was very helpful. Views from the property were fantastic and we saw many native birds including toucans. Tried many of the local restaurants and the food was very good.

Loved the Birds and the Food
We really enjoyed our stay in El Castillo. The town is not as busy as La Fortuna and the home has a beautiful backyard view. We only had to walk a few steps to reach La Ventanita, which is a wonderful place to get very reasonably priced food and great milkshakes. There is a bakery down the hill that serves fresh baked goods and a delicious vegetarian restaurant named Essence Arenal. The house was the perfect base for our exploration of this incredibly beautiful area.

Great view to sit and relax
We truly enjoyed our stay at El Mirador House. If it was still light outside and we were not out and about you would find us out back on the deck enjoying the sights and the sounds of the valley. How lucky we were to be able to enjoy that view for 5 days. Augustin and the others at the welcome center set us up with some tours and were a pleasure to just sit and chat with. I liked hearing about the area around us. Great people, nice house.

Stunning view of Volcano
We enjoyed this location so much, such a beautiful quaint town. The home’s woodwork is stunning and the views on the back patio!! Do yourself a favor a get up around 5 am to see the sun come up and hit the volcano so cool. The only thing that I would say is more comfortable furniture for guests, we didn’t spend a lot of time at the house but when we did could have used a comfortable chair to sit in. Otherwise a wonderful experience!!

We loved this home is El Castillo. Just the place to unwind and enjoy the hammock and view of Arenal. It made for a picturesque base camp for our adventures around Arenal. Hope to return some day!

Perfect Arenal Retreat
This was the perfect place for our family and our time in Arenal area. We really enjoyed staying in the small village of El Castillo versus staying in resort/lodge in La Fortuna. Agustin (property manager) was there for us with any questions, helped make reservations, and food suggestions. There are multiple small restaurants in El Castillo that were great...both Fusion restaurants, a taco place two houses up the hill, and we walked down to the bakery every morning for sweet rolls and fresh juices. The drive to La Fortuna was short. I love this place and can't wait to come back. Thank you so much to all the wonderful people of El Castillo.

Amazing!
Augustin greeted us at the welcome center and led us straight to the property. He was fantastic! The property itself was a dream. My husband and I stayed 2 days and absolutely loved waking up and having coffee on the back porch looking at the volcano. Please try Fusión Arenal for dinner right down the road; it was lovely! Perfect stay. 10/10 recommend!

Sweet & Cozy Bungalo next to Butterflies
We loved this place. Had everything you needed, comfortable beds, terrific views and a short little hike up to the butterfly conservatory that was an unexpected and truly amazing site, not to be missed. I would stay here again!

Peaceful and Scenic
Beautiful scenes of volcano. Mornings, you can see many birds including Toucans flying in front of the rear deck and perching on the trees. Soft sound of the river below. Great restaurants, convenience store and bakery within walking distance. Simply wonderful. House has a local charm to it. Very clean well maintained. Flowers all around property.

AWESOME! We loved it!
We loved this little home/cottage! It was so quaint and peaceful. The caretaker removed brush so we could see the volcano from the back deck, which was an AMAZING view to have while drinking coffee in the morning. El Castillo is a great little town off the beaten path. Within walking distance there's a sweet bakery, a little grocery store, and a few restaurants. Right up the street is the restaurant La Ventanita, which we went to twice while there (stayed 4 nights)- soooooo good and affordable! A must!

Perfect location. About 30 minutes from La Fortuna. Gorgeous scenery, friendly staff and locals. Delicious food nearby and the best horseback riding I’ve ever done. Can’t wait to come back in the future.

Perfect for our family of 4
This place is cute and had everything we needed. It’s a close drive to all the hot springs resorts and LaFortuna. There are small convenience stores and some restaurants you can walk to. The house was clean and we felt safe. It has a gated entrance. The only thing that was different than the VRBO description was that you actually can’t see the volcano from the rancho in the back…only because of the lush greenery that has grown and obstructs your view. I didn’t mind; it’s still a beautiful place to sit and read and listen to the rainfall or the birds chirping. We were very happy with this location.

Nice home in El Castillo
The home was clean, with a fairly well stocked kitchen. The DVD played was not functioning (kept trying to "LOAD"...even tried multiple DVD's.). We booked the property because of the pictures of the view of Arenal volcano, which had apparently been taken a few years ago. We had a significant amount of vegetation blocking the view that was depicted in VRBO. The birds around the property were nice, the next door neighbors barking dogs (3), not so nice.

sweet little home in a sweet little village close to everything needed!
The house was great for my family of 3 little kids, we had everything we needed for our stay. The house is located in the middle of El Castillo which is the perfect location for all attraction that this amazing place can offer. it is 20 min drive to La Fortuna. We loved the peace and quiet of El Castillo. La Fortuna was a little too busy for us. Augusto is the best of the best! he helped us with check in, and to plan our days during our stay. We couldn't ask for more from our stay!

Fun & Quirky Place to Stay with a Great View!
We found our stay enjoyable - El Encanto is surrounded by beauty. The abundant amount of flowers and wildlife were a great treat. The house is very beautiful and well taken cared for, we enjoyed coffee and fruit on the deck. One consideration is the layout of the house is a bit quirky. We appreciated the washer and dryer since this was the second part of our trip. The shower had an odd layout, it's hard to describe but as you step out of the shower to grab your towel you are in the open kitchen - this would probably be fine if you are solo or with your partner. We didn't find places to hang our towels so they were draped over the chairs. It's not a big deal for a short stay. The caretaker of the house, Augustine, was very accommodating. He reached out prior to our stay with helpful recommendations and was very responsive to text messages. Since we were staying there for several days we needed more supplies than what was stocked in the house. Augustine quickly brought us plenty of supplies without any hesitation. We loved that the area was very walkable. We strolled down to the market, the restaurants, and the butterfly conservatory. Taking a bit of a break from driving but still having access to things was nice. There is plenty to do nearby. The views of the volcano are very beautiful.

Perfect views in a sleepy town, not far from attractions
We stayed in this property for 2 days and we loved the deck with the hammock and chairs and the house itself was beautiful. Perfect for the two of us, my daughter has stayed in Arenal before and she said she loved staying in the quiet town of El Castillo, there are restaurants and a market within walking distance. There are tons of hummingbirds in the garden in the morning with great views of the volcano. A great stay.

Nice home in a cute little town
The house was nice and comfortable for four people with good a/c. There were several restaurants nearby that you could walk to, and it’s close to a lot of activities around Arenal. The back deck was lovely (though it was too cloudy to see the volcano). The house was very clean, but there was an odd smell coming from the shower. Agustin at the property management office was great! He was friendly, helpful, and flexible. He made the check in and check out process very easy. We had a great time during our stay!

Mirador House - El Castillo
The house was just as it appeared in the photographs. It was comfortable and quiet (except for the bird life of course). The back yard sitting area was a wonderful spot for morning coffee and late afternoon lounging. The only improvement I would suggest is some better pans in the kitchen. I would recommend this house without hesitation. Management was also very professional and friendly.

Quiet and Cozy
Our stay was excellent. The hosts made the arrival and departure process very easy. The property is clean, the bedrooms are cozy but comfortable. Each bedroom has an air conditioner making for a comfortable nights sleep. We weren't in the unit a lot, but when we were, we enjoyed the deck in the back with a couple of chairs and a hammock. I would definitely stay here again. Pura Vida!

Beautiful place, incredible view and location
We loved staying here and working with Augustine and Majestic Properties. They were very helpful in helping us navigate our way around town and recommending fun excursions. The home was beautiful, very clean and the view from the deck was breathtaking! We will definitely stay here again!

Good time!
This place was great for our family of 5. The back porch has a great view! The washer and dryer came in handy. Agustin was super helpful in helping us plan fun excursions like white water rafting, thermal pools, zip-lining. He was a life-saver. We loved all of these activities. We also thought that the Howler bar was a lot of fun and the server Juan was awesome. Overall the place was clean, but there were spots that could have been cleaned better.

Nice, clean, well maintained property which is quiet and has great views.
Loved the feel of the place from the local woodworking in all the interior to the doors and windows. The hone is very comfortable and has incredible views all day and night. Watch the volcano and lake by day and the stars and moon by night. Excellent swimming in the nearby lake and great food at the restaurant which is walking distance from the home. Already making plans to return and we are still in Costa Rica!
