Sprawling 7 bedroom, 5.5 bath Spanish style Villa built in the 1930's and former home of Joseph Cotton (Citizen Kane fame) and previously June Lockhart (Lassie). Located in the exclusive Palm Springs enclave of The Mesa on nearly one acre of beautifully landscaped grounds with mature trees, the estate is completely walled and gated offering plenty of privacy. This property is perfect for families and groups of friends looking to escape their busy lives to a quiet and serene retreat to relax and recharge.

Step into the foyer and feel the history of "Old Hollywood." The large Living Room shows the architecture of the time with high beamed ceilings and is complete with comfortable sectional sofa and additional seating to enjoy a conversation by the fireside in the cooler months or watch a movie on the large television. Adjacent to the living room is a bar area for entertaining. In the dining room, an oversized table will serve as the perfect setting to gather together with family and friends while you share a meal. A gourmet kitchen is fully stocked and boasts commercial grade appliances to accommodate large parties. All 7 bedrooms are well appointed with luxury linens and new mattresses which will surely allow a much needed and very comfortable sleep.

The outdoor area is sprawling including a large pool and deck area to serve as the perfect place to cool off, relax and enjoy the amazing weather.

The Joseph Cotten Estate has a grand and impressive gated entrance with a sweeping drive and large motor court. Perfectly nestled against the mountains and centrally located in the wind-free area of Palm Springs, with immediate access to downtown and all the restaurants and shopping your desire. Or, step outside the compound and take a stroll the beautiful Mesa neighborhood or onto the trailheads for a hike. CITY ID #xxx.

The property is exquisite. It is an architecturaly significant home in a beautiful neighborhood. The kitchen was well stocked and the home had all the amenities. The communication from the host was helpful and always prompt. We had a wonderful stay.

Diane was very accommodating with our early morning schedule. We appreciated the early check in since our flight from the east coast was in by noon. The house was amazing…exceptionally well located and appointed. I have stayed in a lot of VRBO rentals and never been in one with such a well equipped new kitchen. All the bathrooms are also nicely updated. The floor plan is a bit quirky…and spread out and that gave our large three generation group plenty of room to gather together but also to have space when we needed it. The gardens and pool area are beautiful. Some other guest mentioned a problem with uneven steps …I am eighty years old and had no problem maneuvering the single steps up or down at some of the thresholds. We had a magnificent stay.

A great choice for our 3-generations family

We enjoyed a delightful "Old Palm Springs" hacienda style home with new Palm Springs features, esp. the large pool and lovely grounds! Very well managed, equipped, and maintained. Newly updated kitchen. Comfortable furnishings, with plenty of room for our family of eight. Plenty of room to park our 3 cars and possibly more. Good location for access to Palm Springs and to the surrounding area. A great choice for us.

Wonderful birthday trip!

We had a group of 12 adults celebrating a milestone birthday and we absolutely loved this unique, comfortable, and beautiful place! Check in and check out were simple and straightforward, the property manager was readily available for any questions or needs. The rooms were all different from one another in a great way. We enjoyed using the kitchen, loved the pool and hot tub, and found everything great. We even had some unexpected poor weather, but everyone enjoyed spending time in the house, which made it no big deal! I definitely recommend this interesting house!

Perfect!

This property was absolutely perfect! My family and I (11 people total) stayed in this gorgeous house for a few days and we all were heartbroken to leave. The property is gorgeous, the house impeccable and we were so glad we spent our time here while in Palm Springs. Truly felt like a resort, we didn’t ever need to leave! Communication was timely, instructions were clear. Stay here when in Palm Springs!!!

Old Hollywood style

Very cool house to stay with a group. Kitchen is fully stocked with lots of pans, plates, glasses etc (we are big on cooking so this was a plus). Two fridges which was fabulous for all the drinks and food. Pool was very clean and spacious. Lots of lounge chairs (this is rare I feel like at house rentals). Large outside table and large inside table that seated our entire group of 12! The 7th bedroom is connected to another bedroom and only has a day bed which would have been awful if we had all couples but it worked out great as one family had two kids that they wanted to keep close. Owner and property manager both respond very quick when we had questions or issues. Perfect location- very quiet area(minus landscapers ) to downtown shopping, grocery store, hiking and yummy restaurants. Highly recommend! Very relaxing space to stay!

Loved the House

Lovely home with interesting architecture and great paintings and decorations. Big dining room and super comfortable living room with a bar make it a great area to mix and mingle. The pool is exceptional with a lot of seating, lounges and umbrellas, looking out at the mountains.

Our group had a great stay at this house. It was well stocked with essentials like shampoo, conditioner, and kitchen tools. The space is both beautiful and comfortable, and we enjoyed relaxing by the pool. The proximity to restaurants and bars made it the perfect girls weekend getaway!

Was a great weekend in Palm Springs but

I wanted to really love this property and I found the old Hollywood nostalgia to be a wonderful plus however there were a few things about this house that would prevent me from renting there again. I bring these things up because I have been hosting since 2012 and always appreciate a full review of my home and others. Biggest one is the amount of even surfaces in the home which if you are impaired at all or have any sort of mobility issues this place would not be possible. Each room requires a step up into it as well as a step into the living room and an uneven area from the kitchen area to the living area. There was 11 of us and each one of us tripped at least once during the stay. We loved that there were two refrigerators and room for all of our food but found the freezer to be sorely lacking in an icemaker. There was every gadget and pot, dish ware that is needed for cooking however because the home was built in the 1930s the drawers and cupboards are bot on sliders and we’re difficult to open. The commercial grade stove and oven in the kitchen was a wonderful however be aware that it is terribly hot to cook in that kitchen as the AC doesn’t work as well in that part of the house. The rooms are all decorated sweetly and all the extra bathrooms were a huge plus with so many ladies getting ready at the same time. Be aware that a couple of the rooms are jack n jill type so in order to get to one room you must go through someone else’s. Kinda awkward The pool was so much fun but the fact that I couldnt even play music at a low tone yet be blasted by the lawn mowers and hedging tools nearby was a bit ludicrous. I couldn’t play lullaby music for my seven-month-old grandson that’s how crazy the outdoor music laws are in the city. Overall we had a great time but I doubt I would go back to this particular home.

Lovely Spot to Stay

We came down from Canada for a work retreat and this house was a great place for our team to relax together! Everyone had plenty of space in the house and it was in a great location. We were able to cook easily in the well-stocked kitchen, or get into town quickly for dinner out. Great spot for a group!

Awesome place, location, managers, and owner

This was our 4th rental of large properties in Palm Springs for our extended family get togethers. We all agreed this one was one of the best if not the best. We had a couple really small issues that were addressed in hours (the outdoor lighting timer had been affected by rain). So really minor. The facility was clean with lots of towels and plenty of room for the ten of us to have privacy, bathrooms a plenty, and more. The location was central to hiking, dining, and more. A great place with great communication.

Fabulous place for a large group

This immaculate lovely home has a well thought out functional floor plan, exquisite grounds and a fabulous salt water pool with a consistent perfect temperature. The owner and property manager were pleasant, available and accommodating throughout. Our time could not have been more enjoyable and we all hope to return.

Gorgeous and spacious home, perfect location, highly recommend!

We booked this for a bachelorette weekend and it was absolutely perfect! The house is so spacious and beautifully decorated, the pool was heated, and the beds are so comfortable! Kelly, the property manager met us onsite for checkin and was so welcoming and fun! He walked us through and explained the house rules (the biggest/most important one being the noise restrictions). We had no issues with anything in the house, but Kelly was easily accessible had we needed him. We had an incredible time and highly recommend!!

Everything we needed!

The property was everything we imagined - the rooms were spectacular, there was more than enough towels, sheets, cooking supplies, 2 fridges, etc to host a large group for the weekend. The only issue (and slight bummer) we had was the hot tub unfortunately burnt out right before we got there and could not use it at all. Kelly, the property manager was super responsive from the start and allowed us to check in early, came over to turn down the pool heat when we thought it was too warm, and was available for any questions. He and Diane (the owner) were extremely communicative and pleasant to work with throughout the entire process. We would have stayed longer in a heartbeat if we could have!

beautiful old Palm Springs/ Old Hollywood experience

Home and neighborhood was ideal for our extended family. Property manager was very responsive and the house was very well-supplied--plenty of bedding, towels, pots, pans, silverware and dishes.
