What a great property. Due to weather we ended up with 6 adults and 1 child...some were planning to camp but cancelled due to heavy rain. The house was perfect. It was very close to the faire and also some great restaurants. Great country setting while being close to everything. Will book again the next time we go to the faire.

Wonderful and Cozy

Beautiful Secluded Hideaway
Check-in was super easy and despite this being off the beaten path, my GPS app led me right to it. Beautiful 3 bedroom home with a great back porch, all the amenities and views of the woods on all sides. Beds and pillows were comfortable and kitchen had everything I needed. Would definitely stay here again!

Bastrop Cactus house
This was a great property that really met our needs while visiting Texas/Bastrop area. Good location. Great hosts… they even put up a Christmas tree for us! Very good for our dogs too! And many trails to walk. Best rating possible for the Stevens’

Great place in cold weather!
This was an annual getaway for two couples. We always prefer to be isolated from the world and this fit the bill. Very nice fire pit in the fenced in backyard with all the firewood and kindling you could use. Instead of just enough coffee to get by there was more than enough Keurig pods for the weekend. Next time we’ll bring our dogs!

Thanksgiving Family Getaway
What a great place! We chose the Cactus House as a Thanksgiving vacation for our family and in-laws. It was also a great location for some of family to attend a football game in Austin. The house was well appointed with everything you needed for your stay and very comfortable. We love finding these cozy country homes and will definitely be back.

Beautiful secluded property but close enough to town!
My husband, our two dogs and I absolutely loved staying here! The property is fantastic, little highway noise but very quiet at night. The trails on the property were great to take our dogs on walks. We really enjoyed how far from town it felt, although it was only a 10ish min drive to town for groceries, dinner and bars. This was our second time staying on their property and we will definitely be back in the future!

Peaceful & Serene
Beautiful, peaceful, secluded, serence! We absolutely loved our little getaway from the city. 2 hour drive from where we stay in Houston - fairly easy trip. We feel so lucky to have found a very dog friendly property. Fenced in backyard, dog bowls & towels, poop bags - for no extra charge! The property was clean and nicely decorated & stocked with essentials (soap, shampoo, conditioner, PLENTY of towels & blankets, coffee, creamer, pots/pans, plates, utensils, ice, etc). Beautiful faux fireplace, large TV, grill, etc. The house can fit 2 families with kids and pets. I loved how secluded it was - house was basically hidden away (little tricky to find tbh lol). Only saw 2-3 cars drive past in a distance! So quiet and not too hot to hang outside due to the trees and porch in the back, my favorite times were early mornings to have coffee outside and late at night. Overall very, very cozy. If you're looking for a secluded, spacious home thats accommodating to your pets (no matter if they're reactive or not) then this is definitely the place for you. It just reinforced how much I want to leave the city!

Cactus House near Sherwood
We loved this place! Clean, well kept and decorated. The cactus theme throughout was really cute. Beds were comfortable too. We needed a place near Sherwood so that we could attend a music festival. This place was perfect! Absolutely would stay again. There is a local diner hidden away nearby that was fantastic too. We had one small issue with locating the place because the address numbers had fallen off or were missing but we were able to contact the host and it was resolved quickly.

No issues, expectations met
Overall, we were happy with the property in terms of amenities and cleanliness. It’s certainly off to itself, which was a draw for us, since we had an open trailer with items that might be targets for thieves. If I had to nitpick something, I’d say the pressure in the master shower head was low, but that’s a pretty minor thing. We wouldn’t have any hesitation to come back again.

Great stay with my dogs
My mom and I wanted to have a nice tiny vacation and do a little sewing, but I have 3 dogs and nobody to care for them. This place was a dream come true, because I could bring my (well-behaved) furry friends with me. This house was really charming and I loved the care in the decorating and thought it was fun they stuck to the theme. They also have a great ice maker, amazing back porch, and fenced in back yard. The A/C worked great! One bit of advice: if you are forgetful at all, you may want to write your lock code on your hand. I accidentally locked myself out twice - the first time i thankfully had my phone on me, and the second time was close enough to the first time, that I still remembered it. But basically the front door locks behind you so if you close it, you may need to keep the number handy. :) I also really loved their metal plants. Also they were easy to talk to and warm and also not at all intrusive. My dogs, mom, and I had a wonderful time!

Enchanting cottage
Love the secluded cottage surrounded by trees and wildlife. House was nicely decorated and well stock with all the little things that you may not think of bringing from coffee , spices to laundry detergent, also loved the counter top soft crushed ice machine. Not to mention the fabulous back porch with a swing and gas grill. My family and I will definitely be visting again

Peaceful and Comforts of Home
We love staying at this property when we come to Bastrop to visit with our son and have stayed at both of their cabins multiple times over the last few years. The location is very peaceful and serene and we have all the comforts of home and lots of room to spread out. Plus they have a fenced in area across the back where our dogs can hang out and relax while we sit and enjoy our coffee on the back deck listening to the birds. This visit we even got to see a deer coming to the feeder.

Country Paradise
We love our stay at the Cactus House. We wanted a nice place in proximity to family in the area, but no too far out. The stay at The Shire property was just that: perfection. We were even treated to a little thunderstorm one night and the sound of the rain on the roof was a dream. We enjoyed the large living spaces both indoor and out-especially the back porch and fire pit. We were all in agreement that we couldn’t wait to return to this little slice of country paradise.

To start with, if I could rate this property higher than 5 I would give them a 5+++++. Place is very clean. It has everything a family could need as a home away from home. My adult children and their spouses were very pleased. A perfect place to take your dogs with you for a vacation.

The sweetest hosts ever!
Jim and Sandy were kind enough to let us use their property for our wedding and were incredibly patient and helpful for our entire stay. The home and grounds are clean and beautiful. And a great location for going to the ren-faire after getting married!

Perfect Getaway!
This place was perfect for us! It was stocked with everything we needed, even plenty of firewood. We enjoyed making s'mores on their firepit and our dog Fluffy enjoyed roaming around in the fenced-in backyard. It is always nice to have a full-size washer and dryer. There is a very short drive on a gravel road to get to the house, but it is very well maintained and the electronic gate to the property functioned great. Loved the cheery colorful cacti motif. Everything worked and nothing was broken. We met Sandy, her daughter and niece while packing up to leave and they were very nice. We enjoyed hiking around the property as well as nearby around Lake Bastrop. The wildflowers were gorgeous around this area! Highly recommend this VRBO! Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

Loved our stay!!!
I was in Bastrop for a work trip and it was the perfect for us to work late and then come home and crash! My bed was super comfy too. My husband and kids got to come up for a night and my kids lived playing in the backyard and with the toys the owners had stored at the house! Great place!
