A truly magnificent coastal property nestled in the dunes with expansive sea views towards Mt Wellington and south to Bruny Isalnd.

Saltcotes is a relaxed, spacious and comfortable family beach house with extensive living areas inside and out. Perfect for families and friends alike.

Do a lot, or very little - summer or winter!

Reverse cycle heating / air conditioning, and a massive wood heater will keep you comfortable all year round.

Sleeps up to 10 (5 bedrooms each with a queen bed). All quality bed linen including crisp white sheeting, warm doonas and electric blankets.

Fully equipped kitchen complete with 2 large fridges, will allow you to store all your gourmet Tassie foods, wines and beers! Quality appliances including Asko dishwasher, Smeg microwave and a coffee /espresso machine. Just add beans!

ACTIVITIES

Watch the passing boats from the comfort of Saltcotes, including yachts competing in the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race making their way to the finishing line! The Antarctic Research + Supply Ships heading to the Southern Ocean, Tall Ships, or simply the local fishing boats and flotilla of weekend yachts.

Adjacent to Saltcotes is an extensive coastal reserve incorporating Arm End Peninsula. When it was proclaimed in 1995, the then-minister for environment and land management said: ' ........... this outstanding, unspoiled coastal landscape will be added to the crown estate for the benefit of all Tasmanians.

'Arm End is a significant strategic property of regional and state significance, and is noted for its pristine coastline and magnificent views of the Derwent River, Hobart and Mt Wellington. Other site features include a number of sandy beaches, Aboriginal middens, a fossil area, four rare native grasses and an historic grave'.

On the Beach

We had a great time with family. Plenty of walks up the beach and over the headland. Fish a plenty off the beach and out to Betsy Island. Spacious house. Very clean and tidy. Enjoyed 8-ball and the record player. Comfortable! Great kitchen and dining area. Loved the fire. Lots of room for all 10. We wish we had of booked for a few weeks!Oh, and the winter solstice swin right on sunup was amazing. We are now making it a yearly thing... and no, we were not nude!

Family Christmas

Travelling from WA and NSW and joining family in Hobart, we enjoyed a 5 night christmas holiday in a house that easily accommodated 8 staying and 16 for a boxing day lunch. Young adults enjoyed the 8 ball table and kyaks while everyone joined in a beach cricket match after lunch. Saltcotes was just what we were looking for.

Tucked away from the rest of the world, this is a glorious beach house overlooking Opossum Bay, Tasmania. Truly an amazing home to relax and play with family and friends. We are already making plans to come back.

Wonderful home away from home!

We had a magical stay at Saltcotes! From the moment we set foot on the property we knew it was going to be the highlight of our Tasmanian trip! Not only gorgeous, but also comfortable with all the creature comforts you could ask for and more! All the bedrooms and bathrooms were beautifully appointed and the living area was fantastic with multiple huge lounge chairs to fit our whole party comfortably. The location is fantastic, just steps from the beach (which felt like a private beach most of the time!), and a great base from exploring Hobart and its surrounds. We loved the South Arm, with a great local Cafe, wonderful community markets and close to a great Tasmania grocer. Amazing communication from Frances who welcomed us on arrival and showed us around. We hope we have the opportunity to stay at this wonderful property again. Thank you for sharing it with us!

What a beautiful home and stunning location on the beach...serenity +...that is what it feels like from the moment you walk in. Exceptional attention to all necessities and some luxuries needed for a perfect holiday...kitchen was well equipped, even garden herbs to use, comfortable lounge and bedroom areas, modern bathrooms, fire with all the wood you need, and a hidden gem...a vinyl record player with excellent sound system. Neither we or our friends wanted to leave. Frances was an amazing host too...we hope to be back!!!! Cannot recommend this enough. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home away from home Frances and Henry

Incredible accommodation and stunning views to make a stay memorable

A big, spacious comfortable home with lots of thougtful details that make a stay memorable. Amazing views and direct access to the beach were just the beginning. The home had an actual chefs kitchen complete with butler pantry and an all important second fridge so ideal for a family get together for a celebration, loads of equipment and several dining areas, inside and al fresco. Numerous living areas and five comfortable bedrooms as well as three spacious bathrooms. Large living space with views and excess comfortable seating for a large group, no skimping on facilities either and we were told to use extra linen if needed and to help ourselves to anything from the kitchen garden. The host was welcoming, generous and a fantastic communicator. This is a seriously amazing property, highly recommended especially for large family gatherings or friends getting together.

I stayed here with 6 friends and we had the best time. They thought of everything - especially in the kitchen, which had every imaginable utensil and good quality pots and pans andā€¦ well everything really! The house was clean, there was plenty of space for all of us, the fire had plenty of wood stacked and was roaring when we arrived. Amazing sound system and pool table provided much entertainment. We plan to come back next year! Thanks so much.

From the word go, Frances was a delight to deal with. Throughout, she was prompt, very polite and concise! Thanks to Google Maps we had no trouble driving around Tasmania for two weeks, and saved the best (accommodation) for last at Saltcotes Beach House. The photoā€™s only just do it justice as itā€™s not easy to capture the sunsets or quiet at dawn! Very highly recommended!!

Heaven!!

We rented saltcotes for a long weekend and it was just what we as post COVID lockdown Victorians needed. The most superb views throughout the house, really comfy and homely with lots of personal touches and close to everything you may need. Big recommendation from all of us!

Perfect in every way

From the moment you arrive you will realise you have found something truly remarkable. Comfortably accommodating our group of 5, seeking a relaxing retreat style getaway, we each had our own room and we really didnā€™t want to leave. Positioned to maximise the sun and the views the home is very private and peaceful. Perched on the fringe of the sand dunes it is a moments walk to the beach. The panoramic vista takes in Mt Wellington and the Derwent River. The gardens are abundant with herbs and fragrant flowers. The fully equipped kitchen was a pleasure to cook in, everything that we needed was at our finger tips. There are decks and balconyā€™s on every side of the home creating inspiring places to read a book, sit and chat with a wine or soak up the sun. The upstairs shower that over looks the beach is a real treat. This home felt like it belonged in a set for a movie that involves a luxurious romantic weekend away or a haven for a writer or artist. There is a calming yet invigorating energy about it and itā€™s magnetic! We will be back, it couldnā€™t be any more perfect for the girls weekend away, a honeymooning couple or a couple of families looking for somewhere you can adult while the kids explore and experience beachside living at its best!

A piece of paradise

The house and location has absolutely amazing. The house was stunning, had everything we could have asked for and more. Views from every room, lovely bedrooms with comfortable beds. Lots of outdoor areas amongst the gardens and fire pot. We enjoyed the beachfront position with spectacular views. We even saw dolphins and seals swim by. Highly recommend this fabulous place.

A Wonderful Weekend Escape

We felt very spoilt staying at Saltcotes for the weekend. The hosts had thought of everything. We were all very comfortable (not an easy feat when travelling as a group) and the property was warm and inviting. We are already planning our return visit!
